Chapter Four: Lost in the Fire

SERA’S POV

I shouldn’t be here.

Every step I take away from the crowded bar and deeper into the night with Raven feels like a betrayal. A betrayal to Ethan. A betrayal to my own carefully constructed life. A betrayal to the woman I thought I was.

And yet… I keep walking.

My fingers tremble as Raven leads me through the dimly lit hallway of her penthouse, the only sound the soft click of my heels against the polished marble floor. The air between us is thick, charged with something I can’t define—something I should be afraid of.

But I’m not.

I’m burning.

And she’s the only one who seems to know how to quench the fire.

She stops abruptly, turning to face me. The lights cast shadows across her sharp cheekbones, her dark eyes glinting with amusement and something deeper. Something dangerous.

“You’re nervous,” she observes, tilting her head.

I swallow hard, willing my hands to stop shaking. “I shouldn’t be here.”

She takes a slow step toward me. Then another.

“And yet, you are.”

I should tell her to stop.

I should turn around, walk out, go back to my life.

But when she reaches up and tucks a loose strand of hair behind my ear, her fingers grazing my skin, I let out a shaky breath.

“Tell me you don’t want this.”

Her voice is low, soft, but there’s an edge to it. A challenge.

I open my mouth, but the words won’t come.

Because I do want this.

I want her.

Her gaze darkens as if she can hear my thoughts. “That’s what I thought.”

She moves closer, so close that I can feel her warmth, can smell the faint trace of whiskey and something expensive on her skin.

“You’ve never been touched like this before, have you?”

I stiffen, my breath hitching. “That’s not—”

She smirks, reaching out to trace a featherlight touch down my arm. Goosebumps rise in her wake, my pulse thudding violently against my ribs.

“No one’s ever made you feel like this,” she murmurs, her fingers trailing lower, over the curve of my waist. “Not even him.”

A pang of guilt slices through me, but it’s swallowed whole by the wave of heat that crashes over me when her lips barely graze my jaw.

“You can lie to yourself, Sera.” She presses the words into my skin, her voice like velvet and sin. “But your body doesn’t lie.”

A whimper escapes my lips before I can stop it.

And she knows she has me.

Because before I can blink, she’s kissing me.

Hard.

Desperate.

Like she’s been starving for this.

For me.

I gasp against her mouth, my fingers instinctively grasping at her shoulders as her hands grip my waist, pulling me flush against her. The contact sends a bolt of electricity through me, my knees going weak.

She takes advantage of my faltering balance, guiding me back until I collide with the wall. My breath leaves me in a rush, but she doesn’t stop—doesn’t give me time to think.

Her tongue teases mine, coaxing, demanding. Her hands explore, fingertips skimming the edges of my dress, finding the sensitive skin underneath.

I’m drowning in her.

Losing myself in this.

In her.

And God help me, I don’t want to be saved.

She pulls back just enough for me to see the way her lips are slightly parted, her breathing uneven. It sends a thrill through me—knowing I’m affecting her as much as she’s unraveling me.

“You taste like indecision.”

Her voice is hoarse, her fingers pressing into my hips, keeping me caged between her and the wall.

“And something sweeter.”

She kisses me again, slower this time, teasing, dragging it out like she wants to savor every second. Her lips move to my jaw, then down my neck, her teeth scraping lightly against my skin.

I shudder, my head falling back against the wall.

“You like that?”

I can’t answer.

I don’t trust my voice.

So I just nod.

Her hands slide down my sides, teasing the edge of my dress. A silent question. A dare.

I should stop this.

I should push her away.

But instead, I lift my arms slightly, letting her pull the fabric over my head.

Her gaze darkens as she drinks me in, her tongue darting out to wet her lips. “Fuck.”

A rush of heat floods through me at the raw hunger in her voice.

She reaches out, running her fingers lightly over my collarbone, down the center of my torso. My skin burns beneath her touch, my breath coming out in short, desperate gasps.

I’ve never felt this exposed before.

Not even with Ethan.

Especially not with Ethan.

Her hands move lower, gripping my waist, pulling me to her. Our bodies press together, the heat between us unbearable.

She leans in, her lips ghosting over my ear. “Tell me to stop.”

I don’t.

Because I can’t.

She chuckles softly, the sound dark and full of satisfaction.

“That’s what I thought.”

And then—

She ruins me.

Everything about the estate felt colder lately—especially Ethan. He had become distant. His kisses were shallow, his touches rehearsed, and his eyes... they were always somewhere else.Tonight, I was restless.I wandered into the old study—a place I rarely visited. It was filled with relics of the past: dusty books, portraits, and things better left untouched. I didn’t come here for nostalgia. I came here because something felt off. Like a whisper trailing my every step.A creaking floorboard beneath the rug caught my attention. Curious, I pulled the rug aside and found a loose wooden plank. Beneath it, tucked in a dust-covered box, was a journal. It was old. The leather cover cracked, pages curled at the edges.I flipped it open. The handwriting was elegant, almost obsessive. Names. Dates. Sketches. But what caught my
