I was pacing around when Rina wheeled Enrique into the room. Our eyes met for a brief second before he let out a weary exhale.

“I’ll manage from here. You can go, Rina.” Did my family leave? I wanted to ask but couldn’t bring myself to. Fidgeting with my hands, I walked to stand behind him. Enrique let out another sigh. I could see the indecisive emotions swirling in his eyes—sympathy wafted enormously. He pitied me. I bit my lips to stop them from wobbling. How could I even think of betraying this man? He might not love me, but he sympathises with me.

“How are you feeling?” He asked when I wheeled him to the bed. He was wearing semi-formals, I needed to help him change. “The dinner was quite…unexpected. You must be startled.” He added when I walked into the closet to retrieve his sleeping attire-a pair of shorts and a T-shirt.
