BENNETT’S POV

Somewhere in the middle of the night, I dragged myself out of sleep, every muscle screaming as I shuffled toward the bathroom.

My arm was still locked up tight in that damn sling, and my ribs felt like someone had taken a sledgehammer to them. Okay, a bat wasn't much different.

The room was dim, the bedside lamp throwing just enough light to make everything bright.

Ryder was perched on the window ledge, his head bent over his phone, his face lit up pale blue by the screen. He looked up the second my feet hit the floor.

“You good?” he asked softly, careful not to wake Lucas, who was slumped in the chair, his head hung forward, hair falling into his face. Typical—of course he’d stick around, even after I’d practically bitten his head off earlier.

“Peachy,” I muttered, which was easier than admitting I felt like death warmed over. I made it to the bathroom and let the water run just to drown out how hard I was breathing. My wolf grumbled in the back of my mind, annoyed I

  • Sinister Storm   They're toxic together.

XANE’S POVWe had been gaming for the last two hours. Lucas lay sprawled across his bed, a controller dangling from his hand, still scowling at the game I’d just beaten him in.“You cheat,” he muttered.I grinned and flopped onto his desk chair backward. “You’re just bad, accept it.”“Says the guy who memorized all the combo inputs.” He shot me a sideways glare, but it didn’t have much heat. His shoulders relaxed a little more than they were before we started the game.It felt… good, seeing him this way. Happy, peaceful, less on edge. So,” I said casually, “you’re telling me you actually failed that Chem quiz?”He shot me a glare, his ears tinting red. “I didn’t fail. I just… didn’t exactly ace it.”“That’s Alpha for ‘bombed,’” I teased, smirking. “What happened to Mr. Perfect GPA?”“I’ve been busy,” he muttered, avoiding my eyes.“Busy with what? Brooding in your room? Practicing that dramatic hair-flip of yours in the mirror?”He rolled his eyes, but a reluctant smile tugged at h

  • Sinister Storm   Dead ends everywhere

BENNETT’S POVI was sitting in my room, staring at the same wall for the last hour, replaying Ryder’s words over and over again. He had found nothing, no trace, not a single damned lead on Marcus Reid.I’d sent people out. Called every contact I trusted, greased a few palms, and even leaned on some who didn’t deserve it. Dead ends everywhere. Reid was a ghost, and that made me furious, not just because he’d blindsided me, but because he’d done it so easily. When Ryder came back with the disappointing news, I’d waved him off, told him to go grab food or burn off steam. No sense in both of us being angry and agitated eventually pacing holes into the carpet. Now it was just me, my frustration, and the restless thrum of my wolf pacing inside my chest. We should hunt. Rip him apart. Stop waiting. Do something.“Yeah, thanks for the motivational speech,” I muttered, running a hand through my hair. “You think I haven’t tried that already?”Pain shot through my ribs, sharp and sudden, and f

  • Sinister Storm   Blood doesn’t mean loyalty

DALTON’S POVI’ve never seen a woman drive the way Mrs Baxter does. She drove exactly like she handled business — smooth, fast, and in total control. I sat in the passenger seat, my fingers tapping the console as she drove.“Dalton,” she suddenly spoke up whilst still keeping her eyes on the road, “you promised me you’d keep your temper in check. No matter what happens today, you stay hidden. If you lose it, if he even senses you’re alive, all of this falls apart.”“I said I’d do my best,” I muttered, my jaw tight. “But I need to see him. I need to see how my brother turned out.”“You don’t need to see him. You need to stay invisible.” Her voice softened slightly, though it didn’t lose its edge. “You’ve waited years. Don’t ruin it in one reckless second.” “You know the only reason why I’m having this extended meeting is to delay him long enough so Xane can have enough time to go in and out and find the documents that we need from Dominic’s study.”I clenched my fists, forcing air th

  • Sinister Storm   A supportive parent

XANE’S POVIf Lucas had been even a little less distracted, I’d be in deep shit. Thank God he hadn't noticed. The second his lips met mine, I knew I’d derailed him completely. His curiosity about me being in his Dad’s study hadn't let him calm down enough to notice that I had snagged some USB drives, which were now safely nestled in my pocket. There was a locked safe I had tried to pick but I hadn't gotten any luck before his call came in letting me know that he was looking for me so I had quickly left it. But then Kissing Lucas had made all plans I had to open the safe to evaporate. I knew I was attracted to him but I hadn't expected to be this affected by him.The kiss was definitely the best highlight of my day. Maybe my week even.I would’ve taken it further too, full make out, maybe give him his first sexual experience. Lucas didn’t exactly hold back, but then his mother showed up being a divine cockblocker. Perfect timing. Thanks, Mrs. Storm. We pulled apart as his mum closed

  • Sinister Storm   Always being sarcastic

LUCA’S POVI bolted to my room like some kid sneaking cookies before dinner. Smooth, Lucas. Real smooth. Invite the guy over, then vanish like he’s carrying the plague. The worst part? My heart was still pounding as if I’d just sprinted laps. Why am I like this?I heard the front door open and shut then“Lucas! Should I come up?” Xane’s voice carried up the staircase. I opened my room door and stuck my head out. “You can sit in the living room! Give me five minutes.”The house was blissfully quiet. Dad wasn’t home, which was a miracle. I leaned against my door, my chest tight. Breathe Lucas. Just breathe. It wasn’t even anything crazy Xane said, just… the way he said it. Low. Teasing. Too close.I peeled off my clothes, jumped into the shower, and cranked the water cold. That helped a little, though it did nothing for the way my thoughts kept drifting back to him sitting casually in our living room waiting for me.By the time I stepped out, I’d convinced myself to stop being a cowar

  • Sinister Storm   Hate that cocky bastard

Bennett’s PovThe second Lucas left the room, I felt my wolf clawing under my skin, a restless fury buzzing within me. My fingers curled into fists, the vein in my head pulsing so hard I felt my head might explode. The nerve of Xane. Walking in here with no care, almost like he was challenging me. Smirking at me like I was some sort of joke while Lucas smiled at him. Acting like he hadn’t done anything wrong. He’s trying to take him from us, my wolf snarled, the voice rough and feral. And you just let him stand there, looking at Lucas like that. You did nothing.Shut up, I snapped back, though the guilt burned within me. I had done nothing because I’d been half-broken and stuck in a hospital bed. But that didn’t make the humiliation sting less.‘Then fix it. Make him pay.’Yeah. Oh, I would. If Xane thought I would sit back while he charmed his way into Lucas’s life, he was dead wrong. I grabbed my phone off the tray table, my thumb stabbing at Ryder’s number.“Yo,” he answered on t
