Chapter 0008

Judging from Kieran's actions, Valerie understood that he despised her.

Not only had she angered William, but she was also at odds with her husband, who clearly didn't care about her.

She sighed in exhaustion and went back to the room.

It was nicely decorated for their wedding night. But right now, it felt like a slap in the face.

She tidied up the couch and fell asleep there. She didn't touch anything else in the room.

When Martin returned to his room, he saw that his wife, Amelia, was already in bed.

"Amelia, why don't you go talk to Valerie? She just got married, and Kieran is already being cold to her. If people find out about this, they might say that our family is heartless," he said.

Amelia herself hadn't agreed to this marriage in the first place. Yet no one had bothered to listen to her when she had voiced her discontent.

She replied sulkily, "She can't even keep her own man in check. I'm not going."

"You're her sister-in-law and the eldest daughter-in-law of the family. You should go."

"Do you think she's worthy of consolation considering how she shamelessly married into our family?"

Amelia switched off the bedside lamp before saying curtly, "I'm going to sleep."

Kieran sped all the way to Belcourt Manor.

Belcourt Manor was his real home, and he usually lived alone there. He rarely stayed at Kingsley Estate. As a matter of fact, he would probably only stay there for ten nights in a year.

He wasn't used to living at Kingsley Estate, so he returned to his home in the end.

After he parked his car, he realized that a drunk woman was sitting on the doorsteps. She still held a bottle in her hands as her bleary eyes focused on the headlights shining on her.

Kieran stopped his car and turned off the headlights.

He got out and walked to the door before asking, "Why are you here?"

Helen Morton's tears streamed down her cheeks when she saw him. She cried out, "Why? Why her?"

Her tears flowed from the corner of her eye to the tip of her nose. Her eyes were red and puffy. She must have been crying for a long time.

Sitting there in her red dress, Helen was currently blocking Kieran's way into his own house.

She continued, "Kieran, tell me why!"

She had cried so much that she was exhausted. She seemed completely drained of energy. Right now, she didn't even have the strength to stand up on her own.

"You're drunk," Kieran noted.

"No, I'm not. Kieran, you know how I feel about you. I've loved you for 15 years now. I'm the one who has stayed by your side the longest. I thought that you would marry me.

"So why did you marry her? Is it because she's younger than me?"

Kieran walked up the steps toward her and bent down to carry her into Belcourt Manor.

Helen was still mumbling while she was taken inside.

"You're not someone who cares about age. Can you tell me why you married her? You don't love her, do you? You love me, right?"

Kieran placed her on the couch and said, "Leave after you've sobered up."

"No!" she shrieked.

"Is it because I guessed what you were thinking that you're asking me to leave? Kieran, if you really love her, why are you here alone? If you cared, you wouldn't have left her alone at Kingsley Estate!"

Helen sobbed heartbrokenly.

"I've waited for you for 15 years. I know you better than anyone else. You only let women you like into Belcourt Manor. So it's me, right?

"But then why did you marry her instead? Who in the world is she? Why is she meddling with our relationship?"

Helen's father had locked her up in her room once the news of Kieran's marriage broke out. He had been afraid that she would cause a scene.

Unfortunately, he had let her go after the ceremony, so here she was now.

Helen couldn't accept that the man she loved had married someone else.

Kieran glanced at the sobbing woman next to him. He had no idea how to answer any of her questions.

In the end, he called the Mortons. "She's with me. She's drunk now. Come get her."
