Two days.

Two fucking days — and still no sign of her waking up.

Doctor Marlene said there was nothing physically wrong with Rayna, and the diviners claimed her mind was trapped somewhere else. But still of them offered a credible solution.

My head hung low, elbows on my knees. The smell of antiseptic burned my nose, and Vuk prowled restlessly in the back of my mind, scraping his claws across my skull.

He was losing it.

I could almost taste the copper of his bloodlust bleeding into me, hot on my tongue. I clenched my jaw tight trying to ignore the pull.

This wasn't the time to lose my shit.

‘Why didn’t you go on with the plan?’

I lifted my head, my gaze dragging to Rayna’s still form on the bed. Her lips were pale, her lashes trembling only when the monitor beeped.

“We promised her a meal from that restaurant,” I muttered, my voice rough from sleeplessness.
