Chapter 2

Author: Foxy Greens
Looking back, things were amiss from the first time I met Dominic.

Back then, I was still green at the job and had been badly injured. I'd also yet to develop a habit of sleeping with my targets.

I sauntered into a bar, my black clothes concealing the blood on me perfectly. I drank myself half to death, feeling brooding and pessimistic. I couldn't help but think that my life was over. Being an assassin wasn't glamorous, and I kept getting injured.

People kept trying to hit on me. I lounged lazily with a faint smile on my face, looking like a fragile little thing. No one knew I did the dirtiest, deadliest work in the world.

I was annoyed, but I didn't let it show. Instead, I deliberately put on a show of pouring something into my drink while smiling mischievously, saying, "There's poison in here. You'll die if you drink it."

They wanted to sleep with me, but they didn't even have the nerve to touch the glass because of my words, whether true or false.

I wasn't bored because all the while, I sensed someone lurking in the shadows, their eyes locked on me. Their gaze was blunt and searing, and I could hardly miss it.

I barely had to wait before he showed himself in front of me. He picked up the glass and downed the liquor. The rim hit the counter with a clatter.

The polished surface caught clean, sharp features. He looked down and said softly, "Your wounds will fester if you don't get them treated soon."

I saw the desire roiling beneath the layer of ice in his eyes. He and I were of the same kind, so of course, we slept together.

By the next morning, I was gone. My wounds had been treated, and I was clean. I'd never felt so good before. It was a shame, but I didn't want to have anything to do with regular people.

So, I left a note and a bank card. "Fantastic night. Thanks."

The note was a farewell, and the bank card was his remuneration. It was a polite and detached move.

I thought our paths would never cross again… until a few months down the road, when my boss issued me a new mission to assassinate a mafia boss with an astronomical bounty on him.

The face that had stared back at me was Dominic's.

When I woke up, I felt like my body was falling apart. I knew Dominic was no simpleton, but I didn't expect him to be this crazy.

I lifted the blanket and got out of bed. My legs gave out the moment I stood up, and I fell to the floor. My body was marked everywhere, and a thin chain snaked around my ankle. It connected to a spot beneath the bed.

I tugged on it and snorted. "Is this a captivity kink?"

Dominic's voice boomed from out of nowhere. "You're up. Breakfast is on the table. Do you feel okay?"

I turned to see a surveillance camera aiming right at me. He hadn't even tried to hide it.

I grabbed the blanket and pulled it over my body while pointing at the chain. "Explain this."

Dominic's voice sounded unbelievably calm as it came from the surveillance camera. "It looks good."

I was baffled. Then, I narrowed my eyes, and my expression turned icy.

Dominic's tone shifted as he added, "Yes, I've taken you as my prisoner."

I was at a loss for words. Thanks, but I didn't need him to state the obvious.

His voice sounded a little glum. "It's the oldest story in the book. The evil dragon falls in love with the princess, but she doesn't belong to him. So, he locks her in an ivory tower, making sure that she can't ever leave."

I said coolly, "The princess ultimately gets saved by the prince, though."

He chuckled. "My story doesn't come with a prince."

In other words, he was confident he could keep me locked up in here forever.

I snorted and said sarcastically, "I don't like you, Dominic. What's the point of you doing this?"

He was unfazed. "Is that so? You felt so good that you cried last night, though. Or was I mistaken?"

Once again, I was rendered speechless. Dominic was tall and handsome. Could anyone keep themselves from getting turned on by such a striking face and body?

For once, I didn't clap back.

Initially, I clung to a shred of hope that this was just one of Dominic's whims. He would let me go once he was tired of me and the game.

Three days later, all my things were packed neatly and dropped off at the villa.

A week later, everything in the house started coming in pairs.

A month later, Dominic opened my door while holding a pillow. "You've had a month to process this. Have you accepted reality yet?"

I had nothing to say. I had indeed accepted reality, thank you very much.

I backed away when I saw his eyes darken with lust. "Hold on. I think I might need more time to process this…"

Dominic pressed his body to mine. "Talk to him, not me."

Once Nathaniel and Will were gone, I couldn't stop myself from asking Dominic, "What exactly did you say to him?"He didn't answer. Instead, he pulled me into his arms. "Are you still mad? I know I messed up. I just wanted you to stay by my side so badly."Sometimes, I got the feeling that Dominic was a lunatic. Then again, the fact that I wasn't remotely scared of him probably meant that I wasn't exactly normal, either."Dominic, do you know what I was thinking when I rushed in to save you?" I asked. He looked up, his gaze locking onto mine.I said, "You were like a princess kidnapped by a dragon, and I was the prince. In my story, the prince always saves the princess. It's just like how you appeared before me back at the orphanage. I'd never believed in fairy tales, but in that moment, it felt like I'd really seen my savior."Dominic's eyes widened. "You remember now? When…""The day you went at me so hard that I got a fever," I said. His eyes darkened, and his voice was roug

Blood splattered across my face.Countless figures suddenly emerged from the shadows, surrounding Scarface's men. They were Dominic's crew.Doctors were on standby to treat Dominic's shoulder, but he ignored them and strode toward me. He gently wiped the blood from my face, his voice soft as he said, "I'm sorry. I got you dirty."I slapped his hand away, my tone icy. "What did he mean just now, Dominic? You tricked me?"He paused, then quickly said, "No."Seeing my expression darken, he lowered his eyes. "Maybe a little."I took a deep breath. "Do you know that shot almost killed me?"He suddenly laughed. His voice was soft but tinged with a chilling madness as he said, "If it had, at least you'd be by my side forever."It no longer mattered whether he'd taken the drug. I clenched a fist and said coldly, "Bite down."Dominic nodded, pressing his lips together tightly.I swung hard and punched him squarely in the face.Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. He tilted hi

I glanced behind us warily and whispered to Nathaniel, "They shouldn't even know me. Why do they hate me so much?""Because of your man," he answered.I was baffled."Drake Harbor was targeted from the start. Dominic took care of it before handing it over to us, saving us a huge headache," he added."That's a good thing, isn't it?" I asked."But he showed his face, and their focus shifted to him. He beat the crap out of them, saying it was revenge for his boyfriend. Now, they're itching to get back at you." He pointed at the scar-faced man in front of us. "You should recognize this guy."I studied the two crisscrossing scars on his face. "I remember I only cut him once…""The other one's from Dominic. He called it a couple's set."I was speechless as I shot Dominic an exasperated look.Scarface approached with a group of armed men. With a wave of his hand, they swarmed and surrounded Dominic. A dagger was pressed against his neck, drawing tiny beads of blood. He didn't even re

Dominic was taken aback.I walked backward in front of him, my voice light and teasing as I continued, "I'm serious. You're so cute that it's making my heart race. I just want to kiss you right now…"I bumped into someone from behind. They had their caps pulled low, and they muttered, "Sorry. I wasn't watching where I was going."I tutted. "Donate your eyes if you're not using them."With a sinister grin, I added, "If I catch you again, I'll toss you into an abandoned factory and—"Dominic clamped his hand over my mouth, nodding at the stranger. "Sorry. He's just joking.""Mmph mmph!"Who was joking?Dominic threatened in a low voice. "Do you want me to kiss you right here in public?"I immediately fell silent. The stranger walked a few steps before turning back and locking their gaze on me. I didn't notice, but I could feel that my previously empty pocket now held something. A spark of realization hit me, and I smiled. "Dominic, let's go get some drinks."…Dominic seemed

"You let another one get away, didn't you? What's the point? Look around—is there anyone to help you?" The director scanned the room, and the other kids shrank back, too scared to lift their heads. He smirked with satisfaction and grabbed my hair, snarling, "I told you to play the good kid, yet your new 'family' sent you back here in just a couple of days. If I were them, I wouldn't want you either. "You can't even smile. You're so gloomy that you almost seem like you're cursed! I should've left you in the trash heap where I found you!"My eyes burned with a feral intensity as I lunged at him and sank my teeth into his neck. Hot, wet blood flooded my mouth, and he collapsed. He curled into a ball and howled in pain.I spat out the blood, my face devoid of emotion. That night, I was punished. Winter at the orphanage was brutal. The house had heat, but outside, the howling wind could freeze one stiff. I huddled against a tree to block out the cold when a voice came from above."Do

Dominic didn't answer me. He let me tie his hands, looking relaxed as he sat there. However, his gaze was dark, and his voice was hoarse. "Are you mad?"I was confused. "Why would I be?""People are usually frightened when they see something like this." He stared at me. Then, he said softly, "We're the same kind."I couldn't deny that, but I replied, "I'm not exactly happy to hear you say that."Dominic chuckled. "Why? I can give you everything you want, whether it's power or status. As long as you want it, everything that I have is yours."There was no such thing as a free lunch. I scoffed and asked, "And the price I have to pay?""Stay." He looked at my ankle, and his gaze dimmed. "The chain can't tie you down… I want you to stay on your own volition."I found that funny and patted his face. "You lied to me and imprisoned me in this god-forsaken place. Now, you expect me to stay here willingly? Sorry, but nope."A trace of darkness flickered in Dominic's eyes.I thought my e
