Chapter 1

I was on the phone when Dominic Selwyn came out of a club. My boss sent me his details, which I glanced through. Then, I calmly rejected the job. "Nope. I'm not doing this one."

"You know him?" my boss asked.

I chuckled. "I slept with him."

He was silent for a few seconds. Then, he said, "I'll pay you double the bounty."

I raised an eyebrow and looked at the astronomical sum. "Deal."

I ended the call and strode toward Dominic.

He was tall and imposing in his impeccable suit, and countless people tried to hit on him even as he stood there. He turned them down one after the other, faltering when he saw me. Then, his gaze landed on my exposed chest.

There was a bite mark there. My last target had left it. Too bad he was now money in my pocket.

Dominic's gaze turned cold as he stared fixedly at the bite mark. His phone screen was lit up—he'd probably been texting his men. I accidentally saw one of the messages. "Give them the shipment at the harbor."

I didn't pay it much mind. Instead, I leaned in and wrapped my arms around his neck, asking saucily, "Wanna leave with me?"

He looked down at me. I knew he'd been searching for me since I'd up and left without a word after sleeping with him the last time, but I'd never appeared.

I didn't want to get involved with ordinary people. It was too troublesome. It was why I only slept with my targets—I could kill them after having my fun. I'd have a good time, and I'd get paid for it, too.

So, I tightened my arms around his neck and kissed him as we plunged into the darkness. The smell of tobacco lingered between our lips, and the sound of our belts clashing together rang out sharply in the dark alley.

I could clearly feel his arousal, which only made me more reckless and provocative.

Dominic was hard for me, but he pushed me away, his voice low and restrained. "I won't be the other man."

I looked at the marks on my body and raised an eyebrow knowingly. "You know I don't have anyone in my life."

I tiptoed and leaned in, nibbling on his earlobe as I whispered lazily, "It's just a night of fun, isn't it?"

He didn't look much happier after I said that, but I knew he wouldn't turn me down.

Sure enough, he pinned me to the wall, his eyes dark and unfathomable. He looked like he wanted to rip me to pieces. After a long while, he laughed softly. "Don't regret this."

Dominic's villa was far out in the suburbs.

Under the pale moonlight, broken sounds shattered the quiet of the night.

"Enough…"

Dominic leaned close to my ear. "What?"

I gasped for breath and gripped his arms as I trembled. "I said, enough."

He grabbed my hands and pinned them above my head, looking down at me imperiously as he rasped, "This is far from enough."

His phone rang and rang, but he didn't spare it a glance as he focused all his attention on me. I felt like I was floating in an ocean without anything to support me. He was the only piece of driftwood I could cling to.

I sounded like I was about to cry as I wailed, "I'm dying, Dominic…"

He finally stopped and fixed a burning gaze on my face.

I shut my eyes as I tried to catch my breath, but I secretly felt around for my gun, wrapping a hand around the barrel. I had to end this quickly. Otherwise, at this rate, I wouldn't just fail the job—I'd die under his ministrations.

I rolled Dominic under me and leaned down to kiss him. He let out a low laugh and asked, "Are you going to kill me now?"

I froze. There wasn't time to think—I whipped out my gun.

He easily caught me and disarmed me in seconds. When he saw that there was only one bullet, he laughed again. "You sure are confident, Mr. Assassin. I'm confiscating this."

This was the first time I'd messed up in my career as an assassin. For a second, countless ways to die flashed in my mind. Questions overwhelmed me, but I couldn't voice a single one.

Dominic wasn't pleased with my distraction. He bit my neck.

I winced from the pain. I struggled and resisted, but he easily overpowered me.

After being dragged back into the whirlpool of his dominance, I vaguely felt him stuff my gun into my hand again. However, I didn't have the strength to lift it.

Dominic kissed my fingers and pressed the barrel to his chest, where his heart was. His body and lips were merciless as he said, "You're shaking so badly. Can you even keep your gun steady?"

My hand shook, and the gun clattered to the floor.

He ignored it and trapped me in his arms.

His phone was still buzzing. The screen lit up, and I saw its contents. A message had come from a number that was beyond familiar to me, but the words were respectfully directed toward Dominic.

"I've sent him to you. Pleasure doing business with you."

Once Nathaniel and Will were gone, I couldn't stop myself from asking Dominic, "What exactly did you say to him?"He didn't answer. Instead, he pulled me into his arms. "Are you still mad? I know I messed up. I just wanted you to stay by my side so badly."Sometimes, I got the feeling that Dominic was a lunatic. Then again, the fact that I wasn't remotely scared of him probably meant that I wasn't exactly normal, either."Dominic, do you know what I was thinking when I rushed in to save you?" I asked. He looked up, his gaze locking onto mine.I said, "You were like a princess kidnapped by a dragon, and I was the prince. In my story, the prince always saves the princess. It's just like how you appeared before me back at the orphanage. I'd never believed in fairy tales, but in that moment, it felt like I'd really seen my savior."Dominic's eyes widened. "You remember now? When…""The day you went at me so hard that I got a fever," I said. His eyes darkened, and his voice was roug

Blood splattered across my face.Countless figures suddenly emerged from the shadows, surrounding Scarface's men. They were Dominic's crew.Doctors were on standby to treat Dominic's shoulder, but he ignored them and strode toward me. He gently wiped the blood from my face, his voice soft as he said, "I'm sorry. I got you dirty."I slapped his hand away, my tone icy. "What did he mean just now, Dominic? You tricked me?"He paused, then quickly said, "No."Seeing my expression darken, he lowered his eyes. "Maybe a little."I took a deep breath. "Do you know that shot almost killed me?"He suddenly laughed. His voice was soft but tinged with a chilling madness as he said, "If it had, at least you'd be by my side forever."It no longer mattered whether he'd taken the drug. I clenched a fist and said coldly, "Bite down."Dominic nodded, pressing his lips together tightly.I swung hard and punched him squarely in the face.Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. I glanced behind us warily and whispered to Nathaniel, "They shouldn't even know me. Why do they hate me so much?""Because of your man," he answered.I was baffled."Drake Harbor was targeted from the start. Dominic took care of it before handing it over to us, saving us a huge headache," he added."That's a good thing, isn't it?" I asked."But he showed his face, and their focus shifted to him. He beat the crap out of them, saying it was revenge for his boyfriend. Now, they're itching to get back at you." He pointed at the scar-faced man in front of us. "You should recognize this guy."I studied the two crisscrossing scars on his face. "I remember I only cut him once…""The other one's from Dominic. He called it a couple's set."I was speechless as I shot Dominic an exasperated look.Scarface approached with a group of armed men. With a wave of his hand, they swarmed and surrounded Dominic. A dagger was pressed against his neck, drawing tiny beads of blood. He didn't even re

Dominic was taken aback.I walked backward in front of him, my voice light and teasing as I continued, "I'm serious. You're so cute that it's making my heart race. I just want to kiss you right now…"I bumped into someone from behind. They had their caps pulled low, and they muttered, "Sorry. I wasn't watching where I was going."I tutted. "Donate your eyes if you're not using them."With a sinister grin, I added, "If I catch you again, I'll toss you into an abandoned factory and—"Dominic clamped his hand over my mouth, nodding at the stranger. "Sorry. He's just joking.""Mmph mmph!"Who was joking?Dominic threatened in a low voice. "Do you want me to kiss you right here in public?"I immediately fell silent. The stranger walked a few steps before turning back and locking their gaze on me. I didn't notice, but I could feel that my previously empty pocket now held something. A spark of realization hit me, and I smiled. "Dominic, let's go get some drinks."…Dominic seemed

"You let another one get away, didn't you? What's the point? Look around—is there anyone to help you?" The director scanned the room, and the other kids shrank back, too scared to lift their heads. He smirked with satisfaction and grabbed my hair, snarling, "I told you to play the good kid, yet your new 'family' sent you back here in just a couple of days. If I were them, I wouldn't want you either. "You can't even smile. You're so gloomy that you almost seem like you're cursed! I should've left you in the trash heap where I found you!"My eyes burned with a feral intensity as I lunged at him and sank my teeth into his neck. Hot, wet blood flooded my mouth, and he collapsed. He curled into a ball and howled in pain.I spat out the blood, my face devoid of emotion. That night, I was punished. Winter at the orphanage was brutal. The house had heat, but outside, the howling wind could freeze one stiff. I huddled against a tree to block out the cold when a voice came from above."Do

Dominic didn't answer me. He let me tie his hands, looking relaxed as he sat there. However, his gaze was dark, and his voice was hoarse. "Are you mad?"I was confused. "Why would I be?""People are usually frightened when they see something like this." He stared at me. Then, he said softly, "We're the same kind."I couldn't deny that, but I replied, "I'm not exactly happy to hear you say that."Dominic chuckled. "Why? I can give you everything you want, whether it's power or status. As long as you want it, everything that I have is yours."There was no such thing as a free lunch. I scoffed and asked, "And the price I have to pay?""Stay." He looked at my ankle, and his gaze dimmed. "The chain can't tie you down… I want you to stay on your own volition."I found that funny and patted his face. "You lied to me and imprisoned me in this god-forsaken place. Now, you expect me to stay here willingly? Sorry, but nope."A trace of darkness flickered in Dominic's eyes.I thought my e
