Chapter 3

Author: Hunk Alert
I stumbled back from the shove, but once I regained my footing, a calm settled over me. "Fine. I'm not eating."

I pulled out my phone, switched on the recorder, and held it up for everyone to see.

"Since you've taken things this far, let me be clear. First, the 500 thousand dollars I entrusted to you is mine. I have the transfer records and even your voice message on WhatsApp admitting you were holding onto it for me. I will take legal action to recover it.

"Second, Mom's death compensation and the demolition payout from the old house are part of the family inheritance and jointly owned family property. I am the first in line to inherit, and I will take what is mine."

The room froze. The relatives stared at me as if I had lost my mind.

Dad's expression darkened in an instant. He lunged forward, trying to snatch my phone. "Luther! You'd really sue me? I'm your father, you ungrateful brat! I raised you with my own hands, and you dare take me to court over money?"

I sidestepped his lunge and said coldly, "So you admit you're my father? When you handed me seven dollars as a gift, did you think about me? When you spent seven million dollars on a villa, did you think about me?

"I'll take care of you when you're old—that's my responsibility—but I'm not raising a giant baby brother, and I sure as hell won't let you bleed me dry!"

When Dad failed to grab the phone, Felix lunged at me. "Damn it! You think you can run wild here? Let's see how brave you are when I hit you!"

I stepped closer, meeting his gaze without flinching. "Go ahead. I'll call the police right now. You just started at a major company—get an assault charge, and let's see if Beckett Group still wants you."

Felix froze when I brought up his job. His hand hung awkwardly in the air, and he hissed, "Fine, Luther. You're ruthless. Over a few dollars, you don't even care about family."

"Family?" I laughed bitterly. "That's your family, not mine. In this house, I'm just an ATM. I'm an outsider."

I swept my gaze over the relatives who had been pointing and whispering. "I want to make this perfectly clear in front of all of you. Within three days, transfer my 500 thousand dollars back, along with my share of Mom's death compensation and the demolition payout.

"If you don't, the court summons will be sent straight to Felix's company. As of today, I'm no longer a member of this family, and I won't provide more than the legally required minimum support."

Without waiting for a reply, I turned and left.

Behind me, Dad's anguished screams rang out. "What a curse! How did I raise such a monster? Over seven dollars, and he wants to sever ties with his own father!"

Shouts from relatives and Felix's curses blended into a chaotic roar.

I headed to the elevator, and as the doors slid shut, I pressed myself against the wall. Tears finally streamed down my face. By now, I had accepted it—Dad had never loved me.

Outside the compound, I called Gwendolyn.

Her calm, clear voice came through the line. "Luther? What's wrong? You sound off."

When I heard her voice, the tension I had been carrying for hours finally eased.

"Gwen…" I choked, "I have no home left."

After a brief pause, she said firmly, "Where are you? I'll come get you. Wherever I am, that's your home."

I ignored Felix and walked to the bedside. When Dad saw me, a faint spark flickered in his cloudy eyes. He tried to speak, but only a small, rasping sound escaped his throat. Tears slid from the corners of his eyes and soaked into the pillow.I took an envelope from my bag and placed it on the bedside table.Felix's eyes lit up. He snatched the envelope immediately. "I knew you wouldn't dare ignore this! How much is it? Ten thousand dollars? 20 thousand?"He ripped the envelope open impatiently. Coins scattered across the floor, along with a crumpled bill that rolled under the bed. The total came to seven dollars.Felix froze. A harsh rasp came from Dad's throat, and the faint hope in his eyes instantly faded."Luther! Are you messing with me?" Felix roared in fury, raising his fist as he lunged forward.I looked at him coldly and raised my phone. "I recorded everything. If you try anything, I won't hold back. I've also consulted a lawyer. When parents abandon their children, th

I made a point of going to the scene. Felix was slumped on the roadside, his hair wild and unkempt, looking every bit the homeless man. Dad sat on the curb beside him, staring blankly at the massive riverfront villa. Now, it was all gone.As I stepped out of the car, Felix shot up and lunged at me, but the well-dressed bodyguards intercepted him easily, holding him several feet away."Luther! Are you satisfied now? You've ruined our family, and we've lost everything. Does that make you happy?" he shouted.Tears and snot ran down his face as he choked out, "I'm your brother! That little money your girlfriend gives me is all I have to live on! How can you be so merciless?"I removed my sunglasses and looked at my once-arrogant younger brother with nothing but pity. "Felix, the one who ruined you wasn't me—it was you and Dad. Your greed ruined you. All your life, Dad spoiled you and expected me to give up everything for you. He even nearly stopped me from attending school. "Did i

That evening, when I arrived home with my lawyer, the house was in chaos.Dad sat on the sofa, wiping tears, while Felix made desperate calls for money, only to be hung up on again and again. As soon as he saw me, Dad rushed over like a frantic child. "Luther! You're finally here! Call your girlfriend! Your brother can't be left jobless. As long as she doesn't fire Felix, I'll return that 500 thousand dollars to you! I'll sell everything I have!"I avoided his grasp and walked straight to the coffee table, slamming a lawyer's letter down. "That 500 thousand dollars was mine all along. If you still refuse to return it, the court will force you to return it. I didn't come for that today. I came to notify you of something else."I gestured toward the old house that had been in the family for decades. Though run-down, it was in the city center and was worth a fortune. "This house belonged to Mom. The deed may be in your name, but it is marital property. Mom didn't leave a will behind

Dad's eyes sparkled with greed and cunning as he grinned slyly. "Why worry about it? Your brother's about to marry into a wealthy family. Does a measly 500 thousand dollars really matter? That money's ours to keep—it'll be your ticket back on top. "If we play our cards right and make him feel generous, that money will be ours. Come on, let's go home! We need to plan how to use this cash cow of a son!"I watched them whispering by the roadside, then laughing as they flagged a cab and drove away. As I looked down from the floor-to-ceiling window, a chill ran down my spine.Gwendolyn stepped up behind me, handing over a cup of hot cocoa. "What's wrong?"I gripped it tightly. "Knowing them, they're up to something terrible."Gwendolyn sneered, and a sharp glint flashed in her eyes. "Let them be. Sometimes the sweetest revenge is letting your enemies think they've won, only to crush them completely afterward."The next morning, a video went viral. Dad wore a faded, threadbare shirt,

I was shaking with anger and about to fire back when Gwendolyn stepped forward and shielded me behind her.Facing the livestream camera, she coldly said, "First, Luther earned his position through flawless professional ability and countless nights of hard work. He is an indispensable partner of Beckett Group, not anyone's accessory. "Second, Luther isn't an outsider. He is the man I treasure most and the future head of Beckett Group. What I'm doing right now isn't because someone is controlling me. I'm doing this because I should defend my future husband and remove anyone trying to leech off him."Her words exploded like a bomb in the room. The livestream was still running, and the chat instantly shifted."Holy hell! He's the boss' man? That twist nearly gave me whiplash!""That's what protecting your husband looks like. Now that's a real queen!""That brother is blind. He just cut off his biggest support!"Dad froze where he stood and stammered, "H-husband? Future head?"He

Just moments earlier, Felix had been swaggering around, but now his face instantly twisted into a slick, fawning smile as he bent nearly double. "Ms. Beckett! What a surprise to see you here! This is just a small family matter. We never meant to trouble you. I'm Felix from the logistics department, the one you were informed about before."Dad quickly pulled his hand back and stepped forward with a servile smile. "So you're Ms. Beckett? You're truly young and beautiful! I'm Felix's father. He admires you more than anyone. This whole thing is just a misunderstanding. I was only teaching my disobedient son a lesson. Sorry you had to witness this."He shot me a sharp look, signaling me to apologize.Gwendolyn turned and placed a gentle hand on my shoulder, adjusting my collar. "Luther, did he frighten you?"Felix and Dad's smiles froze instantly.Tears welled up in my eyes as I shook my head. "I'm fine."Gwendolyn turned back to Felix. "You're fired."Felix's smug expression froze
