The stab to my chest still felt fresh, like the knife had just been yanked out.

I jolted awake, soaked in cold sweat. Out in the living room, Theo was fixing his tie, slipping into that pricey custom suit I'd just bought him.

"Honey, I've got to work late at the university tonight. I can't make it to dinner."

Those words hit like déjà vu. Valentine's Day. Again. I'd been reborn.

His voice was soft, sweet—like he actually cared.

I looked at his lying face and felt nothing but disgust.

Last time, I fell for the act. Hard.

I married him, even when my parents warned me not to.

He told me I was his one and only, said he wanted a future with just us. I believed him and even had my uterus removed—with him holding my hand.

Then came Valentine's Day. He said he was working late. Liar. He was with Cecilia—his pregnant mistress.

Cecilia was the PhD student he helped land funding for. The one who joined us for dinner like it was nothing. She always greeted me so sweetly. I even told her she was a lovely girl.

Yeah. I basically invited a snake into my house.

At the ER that day, they both showed up covered in red marks. Theo still had lipstick smeared across his mouth.

He kept pushing me. "She's pregnant. You're a doctor. What are you waiting for? Save her!"

Cecilia's luteal rupture? Totally from rough intercourse.

Even with my heart in pieces, I powered through, spending ten hours in surgery just to keep that baby alive.

The next day, Cecilia went full public—real name, ID, the whole thing—blaming me for the miscarriage with a 360-slide PowerPoint.

Theo filed for divorce on the spot. The internet dragged me. I got doxed, harassed, the works.

Priscilla stormed into the hospital, screaming that I was a barren hen who murdered her precious grandchild.

In the chaos, someone drove a knife straight into my heart. I died on the spot.

Less than ten days later, Theo married Cecilia. Their kid was born not long after. His family cashed out my life insurance and climbed Brighton City's social ladder like royalty.

All that was left? My parents, crying in front of my photo every single day.

I floated above it all, helpless, just watching it happen. Every day, I kept asking—why?

He was the one who wanted a childfree life. He cheated. So why did he get the happy ending?

But if the universe is giving me a second shot, then this time? I'm not going out like before.

The Madoffs, Theo, and that two-faced tramp Cecilia? I'm making sure they lose everything.

***

With that thought, I grabbed one of the micro-cams I usually used for patient cases and walked over to Theo. I gave him a hug, clipped it onto the strap of his briefcase.

"I've got a shift at the hospital too," I said.

He gave me that fake-concerned look. "Sorry we can't spend Valentine's together. I'll make it up to you."

He kissed my forehead and walked out.

I didn't waste a second, ordered more cams, and hid them all over the house. Every corner covered.

Once everything was locked and loaded, I finally headed to the hospital.

Everything at the hospital was exactly how I remembered.

I pulled out my phone and checked the camera feeds.

There they were—on our bed, under our wedding photo—going at it like they owned the place.

Cecilia's belly had a small bump. She looked up at him, all smug. "Prof. Madoff, who's tighter—me or your wife?"

Theo grabbed her waist, wedding ring still on. "Obviously you. She's old. Her skin's loose. Being with her's like chilling with one of my bros. Total turn-off."

The trash talk kept coming. Each line was worse than the last.

I already knew they were trash, but seeing Theo like that—so wild, so shameless—sent a chill straight through me.

They went at it like horny animals, totally oblivious.

Then suddenly, Cecilia clutched her belly and screamed.

I shut off the phone, pulled on my surgical gown, and calmly waited for the circus to roll in.

Jane's blood sprayed across Priscilla's face—who was already half-choked and barely hanging on.The cops had pulled the trigger. Jane dropped instantly. The crowd panicked, scattering fast. One officer walked over and unlocked my cuffs."We're sorry, Ms. Neville. We misjudged you. You've been wronged."I shook my head. With a setup this twisted, no one could've seen it all coming from the start.Priscilla looked completely gone—flat on the ground, voice raw, mumbling the same thing on loop. "Theo... run..."The cops had no choice. They called an ambulance.I asked to see Theo. The officer gave me a nod."Alright."Theo was still locked up, waiting for trial. When I walked up to the bars, his face twisted like he'd seen a ghost."What's wrong? Disappointed it's me?" I smirked. "Babe, you missed a lot last night. Figured I'd stop by, catch you up—every gritty little detail."Your mom? Almost choked to death by your own sister. She's in the hospital—who knows if she'll make

Priscilla worshiped sons. Didn't even bother naming her daughter properly—just slapped her with a lazy, basic name: Jane.I met Jane once before marrying Theo. After that, he used my money to ship her off to study abroad. She graduated, stayed overseas, and vanished from our lives.Or so I thought.I never imagined he'd drag his own sister back just to help him steal everything I owned. As the video ended, I spotted the masked girl in the crowd trying to sneak out.My smile dropped."Officer, that's her!"The cops moved fast, slamming Jane to the ground.I stepped up and ripped off her mask—revealing a face nearly identical to mine.Gasps shot through the crowd."Oh my God, they look exactly alike!""Even their bodies—same build, same everything!"Jane shot me a cold look."How'd you get that video? How'd you even know? I was just watching."I laughed. Yeah, right. She wasn't just some rando in the crowd—Priscilla definitely planted her to stir things up.In my last lif

I threw the footage up on the station's giant screen for everyone to see.The crowd stared at the frozen screen. Confusion rippled through them."What is she trying to prove?""Enough of this nonsense. Officers, lock this poisonous woman up already—don't let her keep lying to everyone!"I scanned the room and jabbed a finger at the woman's hand on-screen."Look closer. No ring mark."Priscilla, mid-fake sob, suddenly shut up.Bingo.The crowd still looked lost."So what? No ring mark—big deal. What does that prove?"I smirked, held up my hand, and slid off my ring.A deep groove clung to my finger."See that? Ten years of marriage leaves a mark. Now, watch this—"I zoomed in on the hand in the video.Gasps popped off."Holy crap, she really doesn't have a ring mark!""Yeah—and her hands? Way bigger!"More voices chimed in."Wait... maybe that's not even her.""But their faces match! How is that possible? No way two people look that alike."I smiled and locked eyes w

Staring at Cecilia's corpse, I felt like I'd dropped into a frozen abyss. What did I miss? Why was this so different from last time?I stood frozen, and the crowd twisted it into guilt. Their jeers spiked."She's just freaked out by that dead, wide-eyed face! Serves her right—let's see how this murderer talks her way out now!""Women like her should be dragged through the mud!"Priscilla sobbed beside me, all fake theatrics. My thoughts spun.No. Impossible. I never even went back to the OR after leaving the hospital—I didn't have the time.So who was the person in that video?I was an only child—no sisters. No way someone looked exactly like me.Or... could they? The thought hit hard. I snapped my head up, panicked."The person in that video—it's not me! I didn't kill anyone!"They scoffed."The cops already confirmed the footage. It looks exactly like you. You really think you can lie your way out of this?""Yeah—she's the one in the video. She gave Cecilia an injectio

Just then, the police burst into the ward. They slapped handcuffs on Theo."Theodore Madoff, you're under arrest for domestic abuse and bigamy. You've been reported by the public, and we have solid evidence. You're coming with us."Theo turned to me, stunned. "You called the cops?"I didn't even look at him. They dragged him out right then and there. On the hospital bed, Cecilia's meltdown triggered heavy bleeding. She screamed once—then passed out cold.A masked nurse rushed in, wheeling her straight to the OR.Priscilla lost it. Her son was being dragged away, chaos was exploding around her, and she cracked. "You can't have kids, and now you want my son to die childless? Aren't you scared of karma?!"I calmly slipped off my white coat, gave her a cold smile."Karma? For punishing a cheater and a child that never should've existed? Please. Priscilla, you better brace yourself—your 'good days' are over. Watch closely."Then I turned and walked out, letting her shrieks and th

Smack!Priscilla stormed in and slapped me first, yanking my wrist mid-swing. "Naomi Neville, how dare you?! What kind of doctor tries to hit her patient?"I don't know what Theo ever saw in you. Now that Cecilia's finally pregnant with our family's heir—back in my day, a woman who couldn't bear a son would've been kicked out! Who still marries an infertile wife?"We were far too generous. And you—trying to sabotage the pregnancy now? If you even THINK about harming that baby, I swear—"In my last life, staying childfree wasn't my choice—it was Theo's. But to protect his image, I took the fall and told the world it was all me.That gave Priscilla the perfect excuse to hate me. She never stopped pushing Theo to dump me.After I died, she stormed into my parents' house, blamed me for "killing their heir," and forced them to give up my inheritance. Now I knew the truth—she'd been in on it the whole time.
