Kayla's POV

The next day at work

The smooth Heavy doors of the main executive elevator slid open, and I stepped out onto the top floor of Throne Corporation.

My heart was already pounding a frantic, uneven rhythm against my ribs, but I forced my expression into a mask of polite, calm composure. Just keep your head down, I repeated in my mind. You are an invisible trainee. You collect your paycheck, you buy baby clothes, and you stay out of sight.

I smoothed down the front of my light red Jacket

Kayla's POVMorning light washed over the quiet streets of Oak Town. I stood across the road from a small, charming building with a painted wooden sign reading...Trisha’s Bakery & Cafe. Through the window, I could see an older woman in a flour dusted apron setting fresh trays of bread onto the display racks. My stomach let out an embarrassing, rumble. With my purse stolen by little Maya yesterday, I was completely out of options. I couldn't afford another night at the motel, and I needed food for my baby.Setting my pride aside, I smoothed down my sweater carefully tugging it over my small, visible bump and pushed open the bakery door. A brass bell chimed softly overhead. The woman behind the counter, the same woman who had paid for my groceries yesterday looked up."Well, good morning, sweetie," Trisha said, offering a warm, curious smile as she wiped her hands on a towel. "How's your second day in Oak Town treating you?""Good morning, Trisha," I said, my voice trembling sl

Kayla's POVOAK TOWN-THE NEXT MORNING The air in Oak Town was thick with the scent of damp pine, engine exhaust, and Damp soil. It was a rugged, quiet countryside town miles away from the roaring skyline of New York—a place where time seemed to move completely differently. My stomach let out a loud, painful rumble. I held my small bump, wincing slightly. I was terribly exhausted and starving, having eaten nothing since yesterday.I left the motel and stepped onto the cracked gravel sidewalk, heading toward the town's only local general store.I didn't know the area, didn't know the streets, and had no idea how long I could survive out here, but right now, getting food was my only priority. As I walked down the quiet street, I noticed a young girl sitting on a beatup wooden crate near the corner. She looked no older than fourteen, wearing a faded oversized jacket, her hair a dirty blonde mess, with light freckles scattered across her small nose. She held a cardboard sign begging for

Kayla's POVThe terminal air turned rigid as Lucien’s hand rested directly over my bump. His touch was warm, heavy, and terrifyingly possessive."Did you really think you could run from me with my child, Kayla?" his voice murmured, smooth as silk.My heart hammered so hard against my ribs I thought my chest would split open. Every single maternal instinct inside me screamed one thing: Run."Lucien... please," I choked out, taking a tiny step back, but his dark eyes never left mine.Just as two of his bulky security guards moved in to grab my bags, a deafening screech sound echoed through the glass ceiling of the terminal.CLANG!A heavy metal luggage trolley overloaded with hard shell suitcases fell over, rolling violently into a group of tourists. A woman screamed, an infant burst into frantic tears, and in a split second, pure panic swept through the crowded hall. A stampede of surging travelers pushed forward to dodge the falling metal. The crowd rushed directly between us. The he

Kayla's POVSarah stood frozen on the grass, the color draining completely from her face as my question hung heavy in the air."Sarah..." I repeated, my voice barely a whisper, cold with absolute dread. "Did you tell Marcus about my baby?"Tears burst from Sarah's eyes, streaming down her pale, frantic face. She shook her head wildly, clutching her head with both hands. "Kayla... I..I don't know! I swear I don't remember anything! I can't remember what I said! I'm so sorry, Kayla, I'm so, so sorry!"She dropped to her knees right there on the lawn, sobbing uncontrollably. My heart shattered into a million sharp pieces. I didn't need a definite 'yes.' The blank memory, the heavy drug in her system, Marcus's sudden romantic interest..it all made sickening, terrifying sense.Marcus had played her. And Sarah had walked right into his trap."I can't stay here anymore," I whispered, stepping backward away from her."Kayla, please!" Sarah wailed, reaching out for my leg, her voice breaking.

Marcus's POVI burst through the heavy glass exit doors of the club into the cool night air, my eyes frantically scanning the crowded pavement. She was gone."Sarah?!" I shouted, my voice swallowed up by the heavy bass sounding through the walls and the chatter of drunken clubbers. My heart hammered wildly against my ribs. Panic flared in my chest. If anything happened to her in her state, I was completely finished. I took off in a full sprint, checking dark alleys, side streets, and dim corners, my eyes darting frantically in every direction."Fucking hell, Sarah!" I slammed my fist against a brick wall in frustration. "I'm fucking doomed."Just as despair began to settle in, a low, muffled sob echoed from behind a row of metal trash dumpsters in a narrow, dim alleyway.I rushed toward the sound.Sarah was curled up on the wet pavement, trembling, sobbing violently, completely out of her mind. The drug mixture had wrecked her system. A sharp wave of cold, heavy guilt struck me straig

Marcus's POVWhen we arrived at the club, the neon lights of the club cut through the hazy atmosphere as heavy bass vibrated beneath my shoes. It was packed, loud, and chaotic..exactly like the night I first met Sarah four months ago.We made our way directly to the main VIP counter."Get us a bottle of Absinthe," I told the bartender, my voice flat and commanding over the booming music. "And two glasses."Sarah’s eyes sparkled as she looked around the room, already swaying her hips to the heavy rhythm. "Ooh, strong choice! I like it!""Excuse me for a second, babe," I whispered against her ear. "I need to hit the restroom.""Go ahead, pumpkin!" she giggled, leaning against the polished counter, completely unbothered as she took her first sip.I turned on my heel, walking past the restrooms toward a quiet, dim hallway near the back exit. A second later, the bartender slipped into the corridor, looking around nervously."Is it done?" I asked coldly, leaning against the wall with my arm
