Elena’s POV

The next morning, I woke with only one thought in my head—escape.

I lay in bed staring at the ceiling, my chest tigh as yesterday’s events replayed over and over. My father’s cruel eyes, his cold words, the heavy silence that had swallowed me whole. I couldn’t take it anymore. If I stayed, in three days I would no longer belong to myself. I’d be handed over to Adriano Romano like some possession to be bargained away. No. I refused.

Sliding out of bed, I grabbed a small bag and stuffed it with a few clothes, my hands trembling as I counted the crumpled bills I had hidden away. It wasn’t much, but it would have to be enough. The house was silent. Shadows stretched across the dark hallway. My every step made the floorboards creak, and I paused each time, heart hammering against my ribs. If anyone heard me—if Father found out I was finished.

I swallowed my fear and tiptoed toward the back door. My father’s guards patrolled the front and the main gate, but the back was often neglected. If I was lucky, I could slip out unseen. The cool air brushed my face as I eased the door open. I stepped into the garden, the faint chirping of crickets filling the silence. My pulse quickened with hope. I was almost there.

The back gate loomed ahead, its iron frame rusted with age. No guards in sight. My chest swelled with relief, a smile tugging at my lips. Just a few more steps and I’d be free.My fingers stretched toward the latch—

“Elena.” The voice cut through the darkness like a blade. I froze, my breath catching in my throat. Slowly, I turned. My father stood a few feet away, his eyes colder than death itself.

“W–wha…” My voice faltered. “Where are you going?” His tone was low, dangerous. My lips parted, but no words came out. Fear strangled me. “I asked you a question, Elena.” His jaw clenched, the veins in his temple pulsing with restrained fury.

When my silence stretched too long, he stormed forward, boots echoing against the ground. Before I could move, his hand shot out, grabbing a fistful of my hair. Pain ripped through my scalp as he yanked me backward.

“Papa, please!” I cried, struggling, but he dragged me across the hallway like I weighed nothing. My bare feet scraped against the floor, my arms clawing at his grip. He shoved me into my room, the door slamming behind us. I stumbled, falling hard against the wooden floor. Pain exploded through my hip as I landed, a sharp cry tearing from my throat.

“The nerve of you,” he spat, his voice dripping with venom. “Trying to run away from me?” Tears blurred my vision. “I can’t… I don’t want this!”

“You don’t have a choice,” he snarled. “You’re getting married, Elena. In a week."

A week. The words echoed in my skull, crushing me. I scrambled forward, clutching his leg desperately. “Please, Papa! Spare me. Don’t do this to me. I’ll do anything, just don’t sell me to him!”

His gaze darkened, his lip curling in disgust. He shoved me off like I was a disease. “Pathetic,” he muttered. “You think your tears matter? You are nothing but a burden to me. At least now you’ll serve a purpose.”

The words sliced deeper than any blade. My chest constricted as hot tears rolled down my cheeks. He turned, his back rigid, and stormed out. The door slammed shut, the metallic click of the lock sealing my fate. I pressed my palms against the wood, pounding weakly. “Papa, please!” But there was no answer.

The sobs I’d fought back for so long broke free. I collapsed to the floor, curling into myself as my cries echoed through the empty room. My throat burned, my body shaking until exhaustion pulled me under. Eventually, sleep claimed me restless, broken, and drenched in tears.

Adriano’s POV – Outskirts of the City

The night air was heavy with the scent of smoke and leather. My study was dimly lit, the only light emitting from the desk lamp that cast long shadows across the papers I was signing.

“Capo,” a voice said from the doorway. I didn’t look up. “Speak.”

“Boss, we found them,” Lucas, my right hand man , reported. Finally, I lifted my gaze. Lucas stood tall, but I could see the nervous flicker in his eyes. My men feared me. They should. A slow smirk spread across my face. “Good.”

“Shall I prepare the car?”

“Yes.” I leaned back in my chair, the leather creaking beneath me. I poured myself a glass of whiskey, the amber liquid catching the light before I downed it in one sharp gulp. The burn in my throat felt like fire, but I welcomed it.

Lucas bowed his head and turned to leave, but I spoke again. “Lucas.”

He froze. “Yes, Boss?

“Make sure the message is clear. No one crosses Adriano Romano and lives to tell the tale.” He swallowed hard and nodded. “Understood.”

As the door shut behind him, I leaned back, chuckling darkly. Power was a dangerous thing but it was mine, and I wielded it without mercy.

“No one,” I murmured to myself, “messes with Adriano Romano.” The glass clinked against the desk as I poured another drink, the taste of victory already on my tongue.

  • Sold To The Mafia Lord    Chapter 34 - Where the hell was she going?

~ Adriano’s POV ~ Honeymoon? Babies? Grandma had to be kidding. She was really expecting too much from this marriage. All I ever wanted was power ,to be the Don, to be on top of the world. That was the only reason for this marriage. And now here I was, actually agreeing to go on a honeymoon. I laughed inwardly at myself, running a hand through my hair and releasing a sigh, the other hand gripping the steering wheel. Grandma sure had her ways of getting me to do what she wanted. And Elena... what was that earlier? “Honey?” Did she seriously call me that? I was a little baffled by her confidence. I know I asked her to play her part, but somehow a part of me liked the sound of it on her lips. I glanced over to her side she looked beautiful, maybe too beautiful for her own good. The slit in her dress did nothing but send wild thoughts to my head, especially with the way she sat, the fabric riding up to expose just enough of her smooth, milky thighs. She probably had no idea how t

  • Sold To The Mafia Lord    Chapter 33 - Promise you'll never leave him

~ Elena POV “You’ll make beatiful babies,” she added with a delighted laugh. “Oh, I can’t wait to be a great-grandmother!” I choked on my food. “Cough—Cough—” Adriano immediately handed me a glass of water. I grabbed it, mumbling a quick “thank you” before taking a sip to calm my nerves. “Are you okay, dear?” she asked, worry etching her features. “I’m fine,” I replied with a polite smile, feeling my cheeks flush. Relief washed over her face. Babies? Was she really expecting one from us? She must have thought our marriage was perfect. If only she knew… we hadn’t even consummated it. The most we’d done was kiss and even that felt like something that shouldn’t have happened. I glanced at Adriano. His face was stoic, calm as ever, as he sipped his wine as if none of this fazed him. I was still trying to digest her comment when she decided to drop another bomb. “Since we’re on the topic of babies,” she began, smiling from ear to ear, “I booked a place for your honeymoon.” My e

  • Sold To The Mafia Lord    Chapter 32 - Make beautiful babies

~ Elena’s POV ~ The silence between us had become its own kind of punishment. Days had passed since the fight, yet the air still hung thick with everything we hadn’t said. We moved around each other like strangers sharing the same walls quiet, careful, pretending not to notice. Tonight wasn’t any different. I was still mad at him. He could have been nicer gentler. I almost got killed, yet instead of concern, I got scolded. Still, I had bigger problems to worry about now. We were meeting his grandparents tonight, and my nerves were a mess. I stood in front of the mirror, smoothing down my black strapless satin dress. The slit up one leg made it elegant but not too revealing. My hair fell in soft waves over my shoulders, and the simple pearl necklace in my hand added the perfect touch of grace if only I could get the clasp right. I struggled with it, turning slightly to get a better angle. I huffed in frustration when it got difficult to clasp in.Just as I was about to give

  • Sold To The Mafia Lord    Chapter 31 - Not A Word

~ Adriano’s POV ~ The drive was silent. Too silent. I could hear the hum of the engine, the sharp rhythm of my own breath, and the faint trembling sound of her seatbelt as Elena clutched it like a lifeline. My hand gripped the steering wheel hard enough to crack bone. I’d been in a meeting when one of my men called she left the house. Just like that. As if she hadn’t been warned. As if she didn’t have my name tied to hers, painted across every target that wanted me dead. She disobeyed. She could have died. I didn’t even remember getting into the car. One minute I was standing in the middle of a briefing; the next, I was tearing through the streets. And the whole time, one thought burned through my head what if I was too late? Elena’s voice snapped faintly through the silence. “C-Can you slow down, please?” I didn’t answer. I only glanced at her, just once a sharp look that made her flinch and lower her gaze. Then I pressed the accelerator harder. By the time we rea

  • Sold To The Mafia Lord    Chapter 30 - He saved me. Again

~ Elena’s POV ~ We were running, using the walls as protection while bullets ricocheted everywhere. The men in black didn’t seem to be holding back their shots came sharp and fast, echoing through the chaos of the mall. My palms grew clammy, and beads of sweat gathered on my forehead. Screams filled the air; people ran in every direction, desperate to escape. Jazmine pulled me along, her grip firm. “Keep low!” she shouted over the noise. We swerved past an overturned table, trying to reach the main hallway. My heart pounded so hard it hurt. Then a woman’s wailing voice pierced the chaos. “My baby!” she screamed, spinning around in terror. That was when I heard it a tiny, trembling voice calling out, “Mommy!” I froze. A little girl was crouched in the corner, tears streaking her chubby cheeks. She looked so small, so helpless… and dangerously exposed. If she stood up, the bullets would hit her. Without thinking, I let go of Jazmine’s hand. “Elena!” she shouted, realizing I’d sto

  • Sold To The Mafia Lord    Chapter 29 - Something doesn't feel right

~ Elena’s POV ~ "What do you mean she can't leave?" Jazmine snapped, irritation flashing across her face. We were sitting in her car, parked right by the gate, and two of Adriano’s men stood blocking the way. Their expressions were as hard as stone, rifles slung across their chests. "Sorry, miss, but she can’t go unless we inform the boss," one of them said firmly. Jazmine scoffed, crossing her arms. "Are you kidding me right now? You’re acting like she’s a prisoner." I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks as I stared at the guards. They looked intimidating but at that moment, something in me refused to back down. Maybe it was the way Jaz stood so confidently beside me, or maybe I was just tired of feeling caged. Clearing my throat, I tried to sound braver than I felt. "I would like to leave," I said, forcing my voice to stay steady. The guard’s jaw twitched. "I’m afraid, ma’am, we can’t let you through." "Are you defying your boss’s wife?" Jazmine gasped dramatically, han
