The black cars pulled up outside the Rossi residence.

Roberto was standing near the window when he saw them. His face immediately lost its colour.

"Claudia!"

His wife hurried into the room.

"What is it?"

"Alessandro Moretti is here."

Bianca, who had been sitting on the sofa, immediately stood.

"Alessandro? Here?"

"Get yourselves together. Nobody must mention Isabella."

Claudia quickly straightened her dress.

"What if he asks for her?"

"Tell him she left."

Upstairs, Isabella heard the commotion

“Someone is going to have to convince her to cooperate.”Claudia stopped outside Roberto's study. She had been looking for her husband when she heard his voice. At first, she assumed he was speaking to one of his business associates. But when she heard Isabella's name, she slowed down. She pushed the door open.“Who are you talking about?”Roberto immediately ended the call.“Claudia. What are you doing here?”“What am I doing here? I live in this house, Roberto.”She glanced at the phone in his hand.“Who were you speaking to?”“Business.”“Don't give me that nonsense. I've been hearing you whispering on the phone for days. Bianca says Victor Salvatore is involved. Now I hear you mentioning Isabella again. What exactly is happening?”Roberto rubbed his forehead.“It's complicated.”“Then explain it.”He walked towards his desk.“I made a deal with Victor. He paid me for some information about Alessandro's business.”Claudia stared at him.“You did what?”“Keep your voice down.”“Have

Roberto stood by the window, watching the morning traffic pass below his office. He had received three calls from Victor since waking up.He hadn't answered any of them. His phone rang again. This time, he picked up.“I'm listening.”“You're running out of time, Roberto.”“I told you I need another day.”“You've had enough days.”Roberto swallowed.“I can give you information about the foundation.”Victor laughed softly.“I'm not interested in Elena Moretti's charity work. I want the information you promised me about Alessandro.”“I don't have access to his private business anymore.”“Then find someone who does.”“That's not as easy as you think.”Victor's voice turned cold.“Make it easy. I don't care how.”The call ended.Roberto dropped into his chair. He had thought the money Victor offered would solve his financial problems. Instead, he had become trapped in a situation he couldn't control. And now Alessandro was beginning to investigate. At the Moretti mansion, Isabella sat at t

Roberto had not slept. He sat in his study, staring at the message on Bianca's phone. The words kept repeating in his mind.Victor wants the information he promised. He has until Friday. He had known Victor was dangerous when he accepted the money. He simply hadn't expected the man to become so impatient.Bianca stood near the desk, arms folded.“What exactly did you promise him?”Roberto rubbed his face.“Information about Alessandro's business operations.”“What kind of information?”“His shipping schedules. Some meetings. A few business arrangements.”Bianca stared at him.“You gave his rival information about his business?”“I had no choice.”“You always have a choice, Father. You just choose whatever benefits you. Hope you don't sale me next”Roberto shot her an angry look.“Be careful how you speak to me.”Bianca ignored him.“And what happens if you don't give Victor what he wants?”Roberto didn't answer. She stepped closer.“Father?”“He'll expose me. And if Alessandro finds o

“Because I made a deal, Bianca. And if you know what's good for you, you'll stop asking questions.”Bianca stared at her father.“A deal with Victor Salvatore?”Roberto shoved the bank statement into a drawer.“Keep your voice down.”“Why? What exactly are you hiding?”“It's none of your business.”Bianca folded her arms.“Funny. When Isabella married Alessandro, you suddenly became interested in everything happening in her life. But now you're receiving money from Victor, and I'm supposed to mind my business?”Roberto glared at her.“I was trying to protect this family.”“By selling information about the Morettis?”His silence answered her.Bianca stepped back.“You're unbelievable.”“Don't pretend you're better than me. You enjoyed everything that happened to Isabella. You and your mother encouraged it.”“That's different!”“How?”Bianca opened her mouth but couldn't find an answer.Roberto rubbed his forehead.“Listen to me. I made a mistake, but I can still fix it. I need you to s

Elena Moretti was halfway through reviewing the foundation's monthly reports when her assistant entered.“Mrs. Moretti, Mr. Ricci is here.”“Send him in.”The foundation director walked in carrying a folder. He looked unusually concerned.“Good morning, Elena.”“Good morning. You look troubled.”Mr. Ricci placed the folder on her desk.“We received another request for information about the Salvatore-linked donation.”Elena frowned.“From whom?”“A representative claiming to act on behalf of the company that transferred the funds. He wanted details about how the money was allocated and whether any portion had already been spent.”“And what did you tell him?”“That all enquiries must be submitted formally. I didn't release anything.”Elena nodded approvingly.“Good. Until we establish the source of that money, nobody is to release further information to an outside party.”Mr. Ricci hesitated.“Do you think the donation was deliberately made to create trouble?”“I don't know yet. But I w

  • Sold to the ruthless Mafia king   CHAPTER TWENTY SIX : THE APOLOGY

Isabella stood in front of the bedroom mirror, adjusting the sleeves of her cream-coloured dress. She had changed outfits three times. It wasn't because she wanted to impress anyone. She simply didn't know how to dress for a meeting with a father who had once handed her over like an unwanted possession.A soft knock came from the door.“Are you ready?” Alessandro asked. She turned. He was wearing a dark suit, his expression as unreadable as ever. But when his eyes settled on her face, his features softened.“I'm nervous,” she admitted.“Then we can cancel.”She shook her head. “No. I think I need to hear what he has to say.”Alessandro approached her and gently straightened the necklace around her neck.“Remember, you don't owe him forgiveness just because he asks for it.”“I know.”“And if you want to leave at any point, we leave.”She managed a small smile. “You make everything sound so simple.”“Some things should be.”He offered his hand, and she took it.Roberto was already waiti
