Since when did Elise start to talk to them in that tone? Elise had never spoken back to them whenever they reprimanded or forced her to do something. So why was she acting different today?

Jessica was sure that Elise was just pretending. After all, Elise was so obsessed and crazy about Kayden. She heard that Kayden refused to eat his medicine and threw his wedding ring into the pool. He even told her that if she could retrieve it, he would obediently eat his medicine. Hence, Elise jumped into the pool and nearly drowned. She managed to retrieve the ring, her dress wet and soggy, her hair clinging to her head and body in an embarrassing manner.

The guests who were present at that time laughed at her, calling her a desperate golddigger and money-hungry slut.

"Actually, Elise doesn't need to apologize to me. She didn't do anything wrong, Amanda," Jessica spoke up. She sounded like she was speaking for Elise.

"Jessica, you're so kind that she takes advantage of you. It's the same with how she took advantage of Naty," Amanda said.

Naty was Kayden's grandma, a respected elder in the Anderson family.

Elise yawned again like she couldn't be bothered with them. She really didn't get a good night's sleep thanks to Kayden and Jessica. She turned and walked off.

"Hey! Where are you going?! Come back here this instant!" Maria yelled. Maria has always been short-tempered and hot-headed. When things don't go her way, she would make a fuss.

But Elise didn't stop. She went back upstairs to fetch her luggage. Then she dragged it out the front door.

James happened to spot her and stopped her, blocking her way.

"What are you doing?" He glared at her suspiciously like she was a thief. His loud voice attracted Amanda, Maria, and Jessica.

"I'm taking my things and leaving."

"Leaving? Who said you could leave? You haven't cooked yet."

She looked at her in-laws. These were the people she tried so hard to please, following their orders and listening to their demands. And this was what she got in return. Their behavior was no different from that of pariahs and gangsters.

"Don't you always want me to leave? I'm fulfilling your wish," Elise snorted.

"Please don't make a hasty decision because of me, Elise," Jessica said, her eyes watery.

"Who said it was because of you? What I said yesterday counts," Elise handed the divorce papers to Amanda. She found them sitting on the trash can this morning. It seemed like Kayden didn't take their marriage seriously. He was the one who demanded a divorce, yet he tossed the papers into the trash can. Did he think of their marriage as a joke?

They had thought that the divorce papers were fake or just a show. They didn't expect that she really signed them. Amanda took it like it was gold. She flipped to the end and saw that she had signed them. A sigh of relief fell from her lips.

If Elise was gone from the position of Mrs. Anderson, then she could find a rich daughter-in-law who was more worthy!

"Now, can I go? I need to go to the courthouse to finalize the divorce."

"Fine. Don't forget to return and cook lunch for us," Amanda harrumphed. They finally let her go because they thought that she was going to the courthouse.

Just as she was about to step out of the door, James blocked her way again.

"If you're going to the courthouse, why do you need to take a luggage with you? Is there something in there?"

"What's wrong with taking a luggage with me, James?" Elise fixed him with an icy gaze.

James was taken aback by the way she looked at him. Usually, she would be trying to soothe or coax him.

"What if you stole something? I'm just being considerate for the family. Open your luggage," he demanded, lifting his chin arrogantly.

Elise wanted more than anything to slap him across the face for being an asshole.

Today would be the last day she did their bidding. Elise bent down and unzipped her luggage. Once it was opened, James and Maria used their shoes to search through her clothes, leaving muddy footprints on them.

Jessica and Amanda watched from the side, snickering and smiling.

Elise watched as her in-laws messed up her luggage, tossing her things about.

"These are all her poor things. Don't touch them. They might be dirty. Ew," Maria waved in front of her nose as if sharing the same air with Elise might infect her.

"Seems like there's nothing that belongs to the Andersons here. You can go," James spoke arrogantly, kicking the open luggage over to Elise.

Elise looked down at the soiled clothing calmly. She zipped up the luggage and walked out of the door. Elise hailed a cab and left.

"That bitch. She's just getting cocky, using the opposite strategy to win my brother's heart," Maria sneered, watching her leave.

"She deserves it. Who told her to influence Grandma and marry into the Anderson family?" James and Maria returned to the dining table.

"Mom, does she really want a divorce? I remember that she was obsessed with Kayden," Maria asked.

"Who knows what games she's playing. We'll play along too. Since she's the one who proposed the divorce, then it'll make things easier. My son will be freed from this bitch soon."

Maria opened the pot only to find that it was filled with raw meat and a little note.

[Have a wonderful breakfast. Bon appétit!]

"Elise Thatcher! You bitch!"

In the cab, Elise smiled to herself. The Andersons should have found the wonderful breakfast she made for them. If they think that she was going to return to cook lunch for them, they can daydream.

Elise tried to call Kayden, but he didn't reply. She looked at all the unread text messages she had sent him and chuckled bitterly.

Yesterday, she already told him to arrive at the courthouse. It felt like he was standing her up, like what he did when they registered their marriage.

Finally, he picked up after the fifth ring. "I'm busy. Don't disturb me," came his cold, grumpy voice.

"Alright. Say it," Elise spoke frostily."Here?" He looked around. There were some people walking to and fro. They might attract public attention."Why not? It's just a few sentences, isn't it? Besides, we have nothing to do with each other. Surely you don't want your Jessica to see you with me,"Kayden frowned at her words. "I'm getting married tomorrow,""Congratulations," Elise said, though it sounded sarcastic."Really. Don't you have something to say to me?""About what? The baby you lost? Mr. Anderson, I didn't push her into the pool. It's up to you to believe it or not. I hate to repeat myself and explain myself,""It's not about that," Kayden said. His heart was weirdly constricting on itself. He didn't know why, but he knew that the source of it was Elise.Elise waited for him, her patience running out."I just wanted to get to know you better," he chose his words carefully.Elise scoffed. "Get lost,"She began to walk away."Wait!" He reached out to stop her, but she sideste

Four people were seated at a café. Sunlight poured in through the large glass windows, casting an orange glow on the three men, making them look impeccably stunning. Elise found it hard to eat with them always looking at her. It felt as if she was seated with three principals."Elise, what do you like to eat? I'll buy it for you," Liam was eager to please her and do her bidding.Nathan waved the waitress over. He took the menu from her hands and passed it to Elise."What would you like to eat?" he asked, a faint pleasant smile on his lips. The waitress handed out another menu. Just as Damien was about to take it, Nathan snatched it first."Too bad, Mr. D'Augstino, that was the last menu. And I needed it. You'll have to wait your turn," Nathan grinned."No need," with that, Damien recited some of her favorite food. Elise stared at him, wondering how he knew. Her brothers said that they didn't tell him anything.Instead of a simple meal, it felt like a battlefield. When the food arrived

"Okay, stop it! Back off, both of you. If you're so into her, then fight for it. But I just want to remind you of something, Kayden," Nathan said. "You have Jessica and she just lost her child. Your child. You have a commitment from now on,"Liam made a mocking face at Kayden. Unlike him, Liam was free to do whatever he wanted. He wasn't tied down by commitments so he had a bigger chance with Elise. It wasn't just about getting the girl. There was something about Elise that made Liam look twice, and look back on his life. He was wondering why he didn't meet her earlier? It was as if Elise had a charm that pulled him to her.Kayden ended up returning to his private villa to rest. He was very confused and conflicted over his feelings. He downed three bottles of alcohol and fell asleep on the couch.Three days later, Jessica was up and about, walking around. Some of her friends sympathized with her while others secretly laughed behind her back.Kayden spent his days accompanying Jessica,

"How long have you been here?""Just now," he righted her position."And how did you enter?""I snuck in,"Elise's eyes widened."What, Tesoro? Don't look so surprised. Your guards are crap," he chuckled, amused.Elise had googled that nickname. Tesoro means treasure in Italian. So he was calling her treasure, like his treasure."You're not going to stop, are you?""Stop what?""Calling me tesoro,""Would you prefer amore mio? Cucciola? Stella? Pulcino? Cara?""Don't. Stop it," Elise's jaw dropped. It was too much. He was too much. But she had to admit that his Italian was sexy and pleasant sounding to her ears."Or..." He leaned in until their noses almost touched. "Principessa?"Elise leaned back, dodging him. "You know what? I'm going to call the guards to throw you out,""Principessa it is then,""Security!""Are you serious? I came all the way for this," he took the lunchbox he left on the other table and placed it in front of her."I am. Thank you. Now, goodbye," she chased him

"It's nothing," he brushed her question off.He must have gone and met with that bitch, right? Damn that bitch! Even now, she's still clinging onto him. I must make him give up on her completely!"I feel so depressed. I lost your child. What if I can't conceive anymore? Should I... just go and die?" Jessica's eyes were red and teary. She clutched his arm, sobbing. She squeezed her eyes more, making more tears roll out."Jessica, it's okay. We can... have another," Kayden said carefully. He wasn't sure how to comfort a woman or how to be a father. Honestly, he was secretly relieved when the baby was gone. He hadn't completed his goal and taken over the Anderson Group completely. If he had a child at this time, it might distract him from his duties."Really?" Jessica's eyes lit up."Really," Kayden confirmed. She threw her arms around him, embracing him tightly. Now, her wish to really bear his child will come true.In the hallway, Mrs. Paige pulled Kayden aside when he was about to lea

The rumours said that the D'Augstinos were descendants from a Mafia family. They have ties to the Italian Mafia in New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia and some connections to the Chicago Bratva. They also have ties to the Cosa Nostra and N'drangheta, the Mafia gangs in Italy. That was one of the reasons why the D'Augstinos were feared."Then I don't want to hear it," Elise focused on her waffle. Damien chuckled softly, eyeing her with adoration. When she wasn't paying attention, he snapped a photo of her and set it as his wallpaper and lock screen. After eating, Elise wanted to do the dishes but Damien beat her to it. She was surprised to find that her house had been tidied up and cleaned so meticulously."I didn't touch your treasure chest. No worries," Damien's voice came from behind her."You... Who asked you to clean up my private space?!""Myself,""Damien, you—""You what? If you're angry, just let it out. Hit me,"Elise reeled in her anger, glaring at him. All in all, he was jus

At that time, Jessica purposely moaned extra loud to get Elise's attention. She wanted to show off how good Kayden made her feel. "What is this?" Elise stared at the documents placed on her desk. The large words printed in bold seemed like an ominous sign: DIVORCE AGREEMENT."The divorce papers.
