Chapter 6

Author: Perfect Timing
Mary stood in a hospital corridor outside an operating room. With a cup of coffee in her hand, she looked calm.

A doctor came out from the operating room and said, "The procedure was successful."

Mary nodded and took a sip of coffee.

She then asked, "What about the heart?"

"It has already been transplanted into your son."

She smiled. It was a gentle, satisfied smile, but the look in her eyes was more terrifying than a drawn knife.

I released her hand and lowered my head. I pretended to wip

I took a deep breath and looked up at him."There's one more person," I said."Who?""Stanley."Henry frowned. "He's still unconscious in the ICU.""I know, but his hands are stained too. Those hearts ended up inside his body. He knew where they came from, and he never refused them."For a long time, Henry remained silent."Once the evidence is sorted, it'll all be submitted to the district attorney's office," he said. "Once he wakes up, he'll be charged too."I nodded. That was enough. The Fletcher family's case lasted three months.Mary was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and illegal organ trafficking.David received twenty years for conspiracy and bribery.Eve was sentenced to five years for drugging someone and facilitating attempted sexual assault. After waking up in the ICU, Stan was immediately arrested. A lengthy trial awaited him.As for Daisy, she had died from her fall at the Fletcher family's villa. The family had cremated her in haste. No one clai

They were afraid I'd struggle on the operating table tomorrow."Okay." I tilted my head back and drank every drop.I then returned to my room and pulled out the sponge I'd prepared earlier. The sponge had absorbed all the drugged water. At ten o'clock that night, I sent Henry one final message.[Eight in the morning tomorrow. The Fletcher family's villa.] He replied.[Got it. The men are in place.]I sent another message.[The passcode to the safe is 980410. It's Stanley's birthday. All the evidence is inside.][Understood.]I switched off my phone and lay on my bed. I stared at the ceiling.Tomorrow, everything would come to an end.In my previous life, I'd closed my eyes for good on the operating table. This time, I intended to watch them close theirs. At seven in the morning on Friday, the Fletcher family's maids were already bustling around the villa.A black van waited outside to take me to the hospital.Mary personally adjusted my clothes. Holding my hand, she s

Eve was smiling sweetly.I accepted the glass of milk and set it on the nightstand."Thanks, Eve.""Aren't you going to drink it?" She asked while looking at me. There was a hint of urgency in her eyes."It's a little hot. I'll drink it later." I smiled. "Go ahead and get some rest. I'll finish it and head to bed soon."Eve hesitated, but she still left. After she was gone, I poured the milk into the flowerpot by the window.I then climbed into bed and pretended to fall asleep. At two in the morning, my bedroom door creaked open.Eve entered first. "Judy?" she whispered cautiously.I didn't move.A man followed her inside. He had on a leather jacket and was holding a camera.Grinning lecherously, he approached my bed and reached for my blanket. That was when the lights suddenly came on.Henry stood in the doorway. His phone was raised while he recorded everything. There were two other people behind him. One was a security guard from school, and the other was a police off

I pretended to wipe away tears while cleaning the blood from my nose."Mom, I'll cooperate fully during the checkup."Mary ruffled my hair. "Good girl."For the follow-up checkup, I made preparations in advance. Before the blood draw, I drank excessive amounts of water to dilute various markers. Before the urine test, I also sneakily added something to the sample so everything would appear normal. As expected, the report came back perfect.[Healthy and ready for surgery.]When Mary read the report, her ey

On the day of the physical checkup, I came prepared.I put myself on a crash diet, eating only one meal and drinking excessive amounts of water so I'd look bloated.I stayed awake until three in the morning and got up at six to make sure I looked exhausted.I even secretly bought blood pressure medication and took half a pill that morning to push my blood pressure below the normal range. When the results came back, the doctor frowned at Mary. "Judy has low blood pressure and mild anemia. She's not physically fit for surgery. I recommend three months of nutritional recovery before another evaluation."For a split second, Mary's smile nearly disappeared."How is that possible?" she asked. A trace of impatience crept into her voice. "Hasn't she always been healthy?"The doctor adjusted his glasses. "Conditions in orphanages are often less than ideal nutritionally. Long-term deficiencies could be a factor. Combined with recent stress, it's not unusual."Mary took a deep breath and

"Mom," I said through my tears, "I'll come home with you."Mary led me to the car.We drove through downtown, crossed the Gilded Gate Bridge, and entered the wealthy neighborhoods north of the city. The Fletcher family's villa was even larger than I remembered. It was a grand villa built in a neoclassical style. There were roses in the garden, five luxury cars in the garage, and a line of maids waiting to greet me as I arrived."Welcome home, Miss."I clutched my small duffel bag. Inside were only a few old outfits and my journal. My bedroom was at the end of the second-floor hallway. It had pink wallpaper, white furniture, and a bed covered in over a dozen pillows. The curtains were made of lace, and there were fresh flowers on the nightstand. There was also a family photo album. When I opened it, every Fletcher family portrait remained intact, but Daisy's face had been cut out. A glaring white hole remained in its place.Mary sighed. "That fake heiress isn't even worth ment
