Fly, Thana Fly

Chapter Ten

The sunshine almost entered my room when I woke up, I yawned and stretched before getting up from my bed. I heard my mother calling me to have breakfast. It's Saturday, we are all dined together for breakfast and one thing that I don't like most is that today is the day of my training. I went to my bathroom to wash and change my sleepy dress. I hurriedly go down and went to the dining table 

My Grandmother, my mother and Aunt Salina sitting down in front of the table. I sat down at my place and greeted them. 

"Oh, there you are?" My mother greeted me. 

"Good Morning everyone." I greeted them with a smile. 

"You have a wonderful night at the Prom?"

My Aunt asked me then, suddenly, I was stunned a moment remembering the prom, especially with the strange thing that happened to me. 

"Oh, it was good, I had so much fun with Andy and Mandy." 

My Grandmother gave me a strange look and said nothing. I felt that she knows that I am hiding something from them. 

"Okay, then bring all the food here to the table." 

My Grandmother commands me to do so. 

I went to the kitchen to get the breakfast that my mother prepared. 

"Thana." I turned back to my Grandmother when she called me. 

"Bring the food here without touching it." 

I was too surprised by what she said. Is this the beginning of my training?

"Come-on you can do that, use your magic." 

I took a deep breath and just nodded at her. It's hard for me to do this magic trick that I always practice in my room to let them float into thin air and bring them to their places. 

I look at all the foods that are put into the tray and concentrate using my magic to float them into thin air. I was startled when my Aunt spoke. I didn't notice that she was standing behind me. 

"Come-on, Thana you can do it." 

"You startled me." I moaned at her. 

So here it goes, I flicked my fingers three times and I tried to move and let them float in the air. 

On my first try, it was not successful, the tray of food was almost heavy as if it didn't want to move and lift in the air. I tried again, maybe I was just too overpowering my magic but still, It didn't work out. Aunt Salina moved close to me to cheer me on. 

"You can do it Thana, just think that you can and think about some happy moments." 

I stopped for a while and thought about what my Aunt Salina said. Happy moments, Just think of happy moments.

I can't think of happy moments…there is none I guess so? I am always alone, I don't have many friends and for so many years I locked myself in this house and there is no one that I can talk with unless with them, my family. 

I shuddered and concentrated again. For the third time, I was forced to think of the happy moments that happened in my life. Suddenly, I remember the Prom night on how I enjoyed the night with Mandy and Andy. I danced all night with all the students of the St. Claire Academy. 

I chose to be a Prom Queen and have a chance to dance with Lucas, one of the hottest and famous guys on the campus. I never noticed that I was smiling at this moment and to my surprise, all the food on the tray had suddenly just floated in the air. 

Aunt Salina looks with astonishment, I smile at her when I walk back to the dining table and the food seems to have a life and can think following me.  I flicked my fingers and slowly I put them one by one on the table. 

"Oh, impressive." My mother praised me for what she had seen. 

I sat down to eat my breakfast. Every Saturday we dine together for some reason and that's what family does and today is the first day of my training with my GrandMa. 

I wonder what magic tricks my Grandmother will teach me. I started to eat my breakfast and almost swallowed the food without chewing, I feel so excited to learn a magic power and another one is my Grandmother who will teach me. 

"How was the Prom?" Aunt Salina asked me again. 

"Oh, it was good… I really enjoy the Prom." 

"That's great! Anything that happens on that night?". 

I almost choked when she asked me about that, it suddenly came to my mind the young man who danced with that night. A strange man who has a sharp eye touched my necklace. 

"Nothing…. Aside from I'm the Queen of the Prom other than that… nothing is happening." 

I have to keep this secret for a while and to Mia. Well, Mia has not been here since last night. I wonder what happened to her. 

I went to my room after I had my breakfast to prepare myself for the training of my magic power with my Grandmother. I feel a bit nervous and excited, wondering what magic power she will teach me or if we are going to Atenowa. Mia said that witches went to Atenowa to learn some magic power on how they used and controlled it. 

I went to the garden where my Grandmother is waiting for me. She handed me a thick book that she always held when I was little. Now and then she always reads that book. A thick book with a cover of black colour has always been a decade in our family. 

All the magic spells are written on how to use them, there are secrets contained about our powers and how to defeat our enemies, another secret is that there's an open door for all the witches who have strong magic power and who has the ability to defeat all the bad elements that surround us if that was happening. 

I believe that my Grandmother and Aunt Salina have already entered that mysterious door. 

Grandmother is patiently waiting for me. She's seated in her favourite place underneath the tree of Enebro that are commonly found all over Huesca; it gives a relaxing atmosphere and peaceful ambience. She smiles when she sees me coming. 

"Are you ready to learn more?" As she questioned me with excitement in her eyes. 

"Yes, Grand Ma." I am so excited about it. "

"Oh, then be ready, you have so much to learn from today." 

I followed her to the backyard of our house. I just wonder why we need to go there. I mean no one will notice us if we do some magic, she stood in the middle holding her cane. 

A grandmother is too old, but she is still strong and she can still manage everything. 

I watched her carefully on what she would do, and in a few moments, she suddenly disappeared from my sight. I just felt like there was a strong wind blowing in fronts of me like a shadow that slipped by and a flying entity that circled me. 

I raised my gaze in my astonishment, I saw my Grandmother is floating in the air like a bird and an Eagle that flies too high. 

After that moment she suddenly appeared in front of me looking too serious. I feel scared of GrandMa if she gives this sudden look. I must concentrate and focus on learning magic from her. Grandmother comes close to me and she instantly holds my wrist and lifts me, she just threw me in the middle of the yard and I slipped on the lawn, I don't know what she wanted to do with me, I am not learning karate or combat with her. What she will want to do with me? I don't understand, I just glimpse of her and trying to read what is her next move. 

She gives her hand to help me to stand 

"Stand up." I stood up and got rid of the weeds in my pants. 

"Okay, now do What I did a while ago." 

"What?" 

"Yes, do what I did. come - on, you can do that."

She walks away and sits beside the wooden seat. 

"Are you sure GrandMa? You want me to do that?" 

"Yes, You heard me." 

"You want me to fly?" 

Grandmother just nods at me and her face is too serious right now. I can't understand why I need to do this? Oh, witches really can fly, but, how? I stared at her waiting for what she would say next. 

I jumped and tried to lift my feet off the floor. For some reason, I don't even know why I had to do this. I jumped as high as I could and didn't know how long I was doing this. I tried hard but nothing happened. I'm still on the ground.

My Grandmother moved closer to me, her eyes were too sharp and I could see it was so calm like a cold wind, Yet, I still felt her strong power. Why does she look too different in my eyes now? This is the first time I see her like this. She tapped me on the shoulder and I feel there's a gale that slips into my body like a blow in her eyes that embraces my body. 

"Common, Thana I know you can do it, feel the magic in your heart."

I was just astounded by what she said. I tried again one more time, I jumped higher and lifted my feet off the ground. I feel my feet slowly rising off the ground, I look down and the moment I see myself floating in the air, suddenly I fall on the ground. 

My Grandmother was seriously looking at me and not even helping me to stand, she just backread in the book that she always carried. I wonder why she needs to read that all the time, I am sure that she knows all the magic of witches. I stood up again and concentrated and I thought about the foods that I floated…. I would be able to float myself too. 

I close my eyes and feel the wind and set my spirit free, I could feel the air enveloping my body and there's like energy running into my soul, this is it, the magic that lives in my nature. 

At about that moment I feel slow that my feet off the ground, I feel my lightness slowly lifting myself off the ground. 

I opened my eyes again and I couldn't believe that I am flying right now. I couldn't imagine that I can do it. The wind is so friendly to me. I can feel her hugging me, every time I fly I feel her caress. I am already flying. I am free as a bird. I got to shout out loud from above the wonderful feeling that I feel right now. 

This is how magic brings happiness to me. My Grandmother was amazed by what she had seen in her astonishment. She stood up from her seat and just looked up at me.

I could see how happy she was, she burst into tears of joy, maybe she is being proud of me. The time will come that I will completely switch in my nature and the magic lives in me that I am different from the other.
