-LENORA-

By the time the cab dropped me off at work, I'd cleaned the tears off my face and regained composure.

When I came into the Mart, I could see Harvey wiping down the counter. I took a deep breath and sighed. I didn't want to deal with him and his creepy advances today.

-LENORA-I shot up on my feet and in one frantic blur, bolted out of the aisle, taking half of the products on the shelf to the floor in my flight. Past the exit, I nearly tripped on my own feet as I took the stairs two at a time. Harvey appeared at the door, breathing hard. “You're fired! Don't bother coming here tomorrow morning!”I didn't have the time to process his words because a black jeep immediately swerved in front of me. It was just the one that she'd described. My heart soared as I cut to the passenger seat. “Fuck off!” He yelled as he slammed the door shut and the bell jungled wildly. I turned and tossed my bags to the backseat and then smashed the door shut. I leaned back into the seat to catch my breath. I dragged my hands down my face. Everything has just been going downhill. Loretta started the engine and I sat up, ready to unleash my rants about how awful a day it was. “Loretta,” I chuckled to myself as I straightened my gown on my laps. She was easing the

When I came into the Mart, I could see Harvey wiping down the counter. I took a deep breath and sighed. I didn't want to deal with him and his creepy advances today. “You look rough,” he noted as I brushed past him to take my place at the counter. His hands brushed my hips and once again I felt vulnerable, I sighed under my breath as I moved to arrange the cigarette stack. What was his obsession with me? I've never seen him cling to any female staff like the way he was obsessed with me. I heard the door of his office creak and I released the breath I was holding. Damn Eira. If she hadn't called in sick, I would have been home resting because my shift was over. “Hey,” I felt a tap on my shoulder and I jerked, toppling the tall pile of condoms down. Fuck. Fuck. I bent down and picked the condoms. “Lenora.” I paused picking up the boxes and

-DESMOND- “You're staring,” she bites the inside of her cheeks as she slides the menu and breakfast bag towards me.I fiddle with the napkin in front of me. “Why? Don't you want me to?”She tucks her hair behind her ear, a laugh breaking out from her lips. And my stomach dips harder. She sounds good. I want to make her laugh again…and again. “Well, I’m sorry.” I say, sitting forward, my voice sounding huskier than usual. “If I stared too much and made you uncomfortable. Can I?” I nod towards the breakfast bag. She smiles. “Well, I didn't dress this hot for you not to appreciate my beauty, right?”“Right.” I chuckle, as I tear open the breakfast bag and the smell of hot steak warms up my face. She orders two cups of coffee, the particular coffee that was sitting on my kitchen counter this morning. She must have clocked that it was my favourite coffee and her attention to details warms my heart. “I know you already know.” I say, chewing the steak, the delicious juice filling my m

-Desmond-I walked into the building trying my hardest not to turn around and tell her that it'sq okay. That I forgive her. Because though she got under my skin, gawd, I still loved her. My heart slammed in my ribs as I passed through the front doors. This was it. The end of me and her. I felt heavy, like something had left me, a dull thud in my chest. Lenora, why? Why, I still love you.I took a breath and decided to turn around, hands tucked in my pocket as I looked at the traffic beyond the glass doors. She was no longer on the pavement. Good. Because seconds ago, I was ready to back out of the doors and go and beg her. Clenching my fists, I headed to my cubicle. She needed to be out of my life. Our relationship had run its course. I dropped into my chair, my heart still feeling heavy. I knew I needed to block her and completely erase her out of my life digitally before I did something real stupid later on like call her and demand answers, when I knew there were no answers.

-Lenora-My stomach crawled with shame as he shook his head at me. “Just take a look at yourself, Lenora. You're fighting over a married man.” He said it with so much disdain that all the fight drained out of me and I looked around at the entire mess, with the shocked look on the employees faces. What was I even thinking? Reality slammed into me. I let him take me by the hand and drag me out of the office. He was swearing profanities underneath his breath as we pushed through onlookers. Everyone was on their lunch break. “What is wrong with you, Lenora?” He pushes me to the wall as the elevator doors close on us. “You’ve been acting really unhinged for the past couple of days.”I don't say anything. I just look down at my worn out shoes, avoiding eye contact with him. He steps in closer, his cedar scent flooding my senses, and I take in a deep breath. Desmond still makes my heart flutter…and not in a good way. To my surprise, he takes my hand and when I look up at him, his eyes

-Lenora- I barely had time to recover from the disgust of the restroom before the intercom crackled, summoning me back to the office. When I stepped inside, Sinclair didn't even look up from his paperwork at first, but I could feel the air shift."Eira called in sick," he said, his voice clipped. "You're covering the cashier till for the rest of the morning. Get to it."“What no?.that’s not my job.”“You'll be paid extra for it.”“But I still have one thirty as my lunch break?” I checked my watch. It was an hour to one thirty.“Yes, you would. Just come in and let me know before you leave okay?”I nodded, slipping out of the office. Just as I took my place behind the counter, the bell chimed, and two men walked in. Afternoon rush, I guessed, coming in for some smoke or chips. The two men kind of intimidated me and I presumed that they were bikers because they were strapped in all leather, from their jackets to their boots. One was holding a black helmet. Definitely bikers, radiatin
