Chapter 16 Happy Break-Up

Nell left Fenghua.

When she left, there were a few who sent her off with sympathetic expressions, but most were just surface-level efforts.

After all, although she had left her job, she was not leaving the industry, so they might still encounter each other in the future.

One more friend was better than one more enemy!

Nell did not pierce their facade. When she got to the parking lot, she placed her belongings in the car before driving to Morton Corporation.

Thomas Morton was a man of his word. The transfer documents and cheques for the companies had already been prepared.

He was in a meeting when Nell arrived, so she was received by his secretary.

Of the three subsidiaries she requested last night, two were already settled, leaving only one left.

Nell readily signed the document and handed over her half of the marriage agreement to the other party.

She had signed the marriage agreement under the Mortons’ coercion back when her mother was still alive.

At that time, Jason Morton and her had just been together for a short time and were both still very young, so they used a traditional method like this instead of using an engagement.

Half a month after signing the marriage agreement, her mother passed away unexpectedly.

Now that Nell thought about it, perhaps her mother had anticipated the accident and made this arrangement deliberately before leaving.

Unfortunately, she had failed her mother’s final painstaking efforts. Not only had she lost her home, but she also lost her fiance.

Thinking about this, Nell laughed at herself.

Even after all the formalities were handed over, Thomas was still in his meeting.

The secretary asked if she wanted to wait for a while for the president to come out and greet her before leaving, but Nell declined.

She had already gotten what she wanted, so there was no need to meet someone from the Morton family again.

It was still early when she left Morton Corporation.

Nell went back to her store again. The shop assistant who had taken leave had returned to work. She stood up happily from behind the counter upon seeing Nell.

“Sister Nell, today’s business is good. It’s only been half a day but we already got ten orders.”

Nell smiled and praised her. “Good job. Keep up the good work!”

The shop assistant, Zoey, was a young eighteen-year-old. Her excited little face flushed red with delight at Nell’s encouragement.

Nell took out a piece of white A4 paper from her bag and pasted it on the window.

Zoey leaned over curiously to read it and was shocked when she saw the words ‘For Transfer’ on it.

“Sister Nell, are you transferring ownership of the shop? You’re going to stop business?”

Nell nodded.

“Yes, I am, but you can continue to work here. I’ll talk to the new boss.”

Zoey’s face fell slightly.

To be honest, Nell had no choice either.

She wanted to open her own management company and would inevitably devote all her time to it. She might not be able to divide her energy to take care of this side as well.

Besides, no matter how good business was, income generated from the shop was limited, so after considering the pros and cons, it was better to sell it.

After posting the notice, Nell chatted with Zoey before leaving.

She had no plans for the afternoon, so she invited Janet Hancock to go shopping with her.

Janet was the number one beauty in the entertainment circle. She was once rated a ‘rare contemporary beauty’ by the media and magazines.

She was also the daughter of the president of Hancock Grand Corporation, and highschool classmates with Nell. They were best friends.

As soon as they met, Janet clicked her tongue twice and sighed.

“Sister, I rushed over to comfort you as soon as I heard that you were dumped by a man, but look at you! You don’t look very sad at all!”

Nell was a little surprised.

“How did you know?”

“Well, it’s been announced to practically the whole world, so it’s hard to not know!”

She handed Nell an invitation to a birthday party. Nell flipped it open to see that it was jointly sent by Celine Jennings and Jason Morton.

She was momentarily speechless.

Janet grinned. “Come on, spill it! When did you catch their adultery red-handed?”

“A few days ago!” Nell saw how happy Janet was at her misfortune and grew slightly gloomy. “Hey, why are you so glad that I was dumped?”

“Of course I’m glad you got dumped! Jason Morton is a scumbag. The faster you get over him, the better. Don’t waste your time and efforts on him.”

Nell. “...”

She had long known that Janet disliked Jason.

When she found out that they were together, she had advised Nell several times, but at that time, the seed of love had just been planted in the little girl, so how could she have believed Janet’s words?

Now, it seemed that Janet had hit the nail on the head.

Nell smiled wryly and said nothing.

The two of them went to a nearby mall to do some shopping.

At that moment, a black Rolls-Royce passed by. Matthew Starks saw two women walking towards a mall and exclaimed in surprise. “Huh? Isn’t that Ms. Jennings?”

Gideon’s eyes were fixed on some data when he lifted his head. He looked at the direction Matthew pointed to and paused slightly.

“Stop the car!”

Nell and Janet strolled around for a long time and finally entered a women’s boutique.

It was a luxury brand store with high-end decor. The light and cold tone of the store gave off a clean and extravagant feel.

Janet had ordered a long skirt before and came over to pick it up today.

The shop assistant recognized her and took her to the VIP room on the second floor to try on the dress. If there were any inappropriate parts, it was better to modify it on the spot.

Janet waved Nell over. “Nelly, sit down here for a while. I’ll come down after I try it out, kay?”

Nell nodded.

After Janet went upstairs, Nell felt bored waiting so she wandered around the shop.

It was a Monday, so there were not many customers in the shop. The shop assistants chatted in groups of twos and threes or buried their heads while playing on their phones. No one entertained her.

Nell did not mind. After walking around, she saw a dark blue dress hanging by the window. The style was very beautiful, a little similar to the work of a French designer she had seen in a magazine before.

She had always liked that designer and could be considered his loyal fan, so she could not help but reach out and touch it.

“Hey! You can look but don’t get all handsy. You can’t afford to pay if you damage it.”

A woman’s voice suddenly sounded behind her.

Nell paused and turned back to see a young shop assistant standing there, staring at her with eyes full of displeasure and disdain.

She frowned slightly.

“Don’t you hang clothes out here so customers can try them? Why can’t I touch it?”

The shop assistant smiled coldly. “Others can touch it, but you can’t.”

“Why?”

The assistant rolled her eyes as if annoyed that Nell was asking for a rebuke.

“Do you know how much this dress costs? How many thousand yuan do you earn a month as an assistant? You wouldn’t be able to buy it even with your annual salary!”

Then, she snatched the clothing in Nell’s hands with impatience and pushed the shelf full of dresses to the side.

She grumbled in dissatisfaction. “The only people who come here are those that look without buying anything. If you can’t afford it then why are you even wandering around here for? You’re so annoying!”

Nell. “...”

She did not know whether to laugh or get angry.

It was not the first time she had gone shopping with Janet, but it was the first time that she was mistaken for an assistant.
