Chapter 2

Shirley Snow
However, Tyler did not share it with Josie. He turned away and drove straight to the embassy.

The application for permanent residency in Grundale was not difficult to fill out, especially for someone like Tyler who was from a wealthy family. The Fords had started moving their businesses overseas over the past few years.

Tyler's parents and older sister had moved out of the country, and he was the only one who stayed behind because of Josie. Now, he was leaving too.

"The process should take about a week," the embassy staff said with a smile.

Tyler nodded, put the receipt in his pocket, and left the embassy.

It was finally about to be over.

Josie, the woman he had courted for six years, the ice queen that he thought he could drag down from her pedestal, was never meant to be his.

Tyler had given up a lot for her. He became a vegetarian for her and even tried to cleanse himself mentally for her. He even changed his arrogant personality because of her. All he wanted was to get closer to Josie, but in the end of it all, he failed to even get near her deepest desires.

He looked at the receipt in his hand and smiled softly. Despite his decision, he still felt a little bitter about everything. "Let it go, Tyler Ford. Josie never had feelings for you, but there are plenty of people out there who will."

That night, he went clubbing with his buddies. He stopped frequenting bars and clubs since he married Josie, but today, he wore a black, sleeveless T-shirt and moved his body to the beat. His movements were carefree and confident, his smooth muscle lines visible beneath the lights.

The arrogant, wild look in his eyes finally made a return after years of absence.

"What's up with you today, Tyler?" His buddy, Ted Lambert, was surprised and pulled him aside. "Since you fell for the ice queen, you've been busy running circles around her. Didn't you stop coming to places like this?"

Tyler smiled and took a sip of his drink. His eyes looked slightly glazed when he replied. "Forget about her. Let's party the night away!"

He turned to enter the dance floor and let the music wash over him. It felt like his body had finally been released, and he was finally free to be as wild as he wanted to be.

Tyler swept a glance at the young models around him, and he smiled seductively as he gently grabbed one of them around the waist, igniting soft giggles around him.

"Are you crazy, Tyler?" Ted caught up to him and pulled his hand. "Aren't you worried Josie will get mad at you for touching so many models and pressing against their bodies when you dance?"

"She's not here."

"But…" Ted did not know what else to say, and he leaned into Tyler's ear. "Who told you she isn't here? I was trying to tell you that she's sitting in the booth behind, and she's been watching you for a long time!"

Tyler froze and looked up slowly. He saw her right away through the dim clubbing lights.

Josie was in a black fitted dress, which looked out of place in the noisy club. She was sitting in the corner booth, her slender fingers circling the edge of her glass while looking at Tyler darkly. Tyler had no idea how long she had been watching him, but that was when the music stopped.

He heard Josie's friend tease, "Look at Tyler. He's been dancing for quite a while, having his way with the women on the dance floor. If he were my husband, I would've flipped the tables here. How can you still watch so calmly?"

Josie remained stoic. She took a sip of tea and said coldly, "He knows what he's doing. He won't cross the line."

Her reply was like a poisoned needle that struck him right where it hurts. He knew what he was doing?

Was Josie so confident of his love for her that she was sure he would not cheat, or did she not really care?

It could be both.

"Tsk, tsk. I'm impressed by your confidence, but it does make me curious. What in this world can stir your emotions…"

Her friend did not finish the sentence because her voice rose suddenly to call out to Josie. "Hey, Josie, where are you going?"

Tyler looked up to see Josie suddenly standing up. She was staring at the other end of the dance floor, and in a rare moment, he could see jealousy in her eyes. He followed her eyes and looked in that direction.

It was Shane Sinclair. He was in a white leisure suit and standing at the edge of the dance floor, exchanging numbers with another woman.

Josie strode toward him and grabbed Shane's wrist. Her tone was chilling. "Who said you could come to a place like this? And who allowed you to give your number out to strangers?"

Shane was taken aback, and his eyes turned red from tearing up. "Why can't I be here? Why can't I give my number to another person? I thought you were ignoring me, Josie. What I do is none of your business!"

Her knuckles turned white, and she said in a growl, "Who told you I was ignoring you?"

"Well, you are!" Shane sounded like he was about to cry. "You've been avoiding me and refusing to see me! Josie, we used to be so close, but one day, everything just changed suddenly!"

Josie's red lips moved, and it sounded like she was trying to suppress her emotions. "That's because…"

Tyler stood nearby, feeling his chest tighten. He knew that Josie could not tell Shane the truth. How was she supposed to tell Shane that the reason she avoided him was that she was in love with him?

How could she say that seeing him made her lose control and that she loved him so much that she and her husband slept in separate rooms despite being married for two years, choosing instead to moan Shane's name while she pleasured herself when she missed him?

Tyler laughed at himself. He was about to leave when he heard Shane cry out, "Josie, let's just go back to how we were. I want my sister back. I want the sister who only had eyes for me!"

Josie replied in a low voice, "I'm married now. I can't revolve my life around you any longer."

"Can we go back to before if your husband disappears?" Shane suddenly looked up with a crazy look in his eyes.

Tyler was about to leave when Shane picked up a bottle and walked straight toward him. The bottle smashed hard on Tyler's head, and all he heard was the glass breaking. Something warm dripped from his forehead.

"Tyler!" Ted shouted.

He stumbled backward and saw Shane pick up a second bottle. "Just die already!"

Shane smashed the bottle on Tyler's head even harder the second time, and Tyler lost consciousness from the impact. He fell into a pool of blood, and all he could hear was screaming.

The entire place was silent.Josie stood at the edge of light and shadow, coffee stains from the flight still on the hem of her dress. Her usually elaborately styled long hair hung messily over her forehead."Ms. Sinclair, are you trying to steal my groom?" Elena narrowed her eyes.Josie ignored her, walked straight to Tyler, and knelt. Her voice was so hoarse it was almost inaudible. "I know I deserve to die for my sins, but please just give me one more look..."The guests were in an uproar. The head of the Sinclairs of Capnorth, who was a cold and untouchable saint, was now kneeling perfectly upright.Tyler took a step back. "Josie, don't do this.""I wrote 300 love letters, from the time we first met until we married and then..." Her voice grew even more hoarse. "The day I fell in love with you but didn't dare to admit it."She trembled as she opened the box, and white letters fluttered like butterflies.Tyler remained unmoved, not even glancing at them. He slowly shook his

Shane stood still. "What?" "Now that you've married into that family, just live with it." Josie's tone was calm. Then she looked up at the woman in front of her. "Don't hit him. You know the consequences." The woman nodded repeatedly and stepped forward, grabbing Shane's wrist. "Honey, go back. I'll take good care of you." Even if she could not hit him, she still had many methods to torment him. Moreover, she was ugly, fat, and old, while he was a strong and young man full of vitality. Shane struggled frantically. "Josie! How could you treat me like this? You said you would always protect me! You said I mattered the most to you! Josie... I was wrong... Josie..."His hysterical cries faded away, and Josie walked into the study without looking back.In the family's chapel, she personally lit everything related to Shane—photos, gifts, the paintings he drew when he was young… The flames consumed the past, and the ashes floated in the air. From now on, only Tyler's presence wou

Elena stirred the coffee slowly in the coffee shop.Josie's first words made her hand pause. "Give Tyler back to me. I'll trade anything for him."Elena raised an eyebrow. "Anything?"Josie's voice was hoarse. "Yes. Sinclair Industries' shares, land in Capnorth, my assets overseas… Even..." She closed her eyes for a moment. "I could bring Shane back and have him personally apologize to Tyler."Elena suddenly smiled. She put down the coffee cup as a hint of mockery flashed in her azure eyes. "Josie, don't you get it yet? Tyler isn't a commodity. He's a human being with flesh and blood that feels pain and cries. You once had all his genuine affection, but you crushed it with your own hands."Elena stood up and looked condescendingly at her. "Now, it's my turn to love him.""As for you..." She chuckled softly. "Just spend the rest of your life with your guilt."Josie sat still, watching Elena's retreating figure. Suddenly, she recalled something from many years ago.Tyler had done

The crying suddenly stopped. Shane's voice was trembling as he asked shrilly in disbelief, "What do you mean, Josie?"Josie closed her eyes. She sounded tired. "I spoiled you too much before. Now that you've married into that family, try to live a good life. If you really can't take it, tell Mom and Dad about it. I don't have the time to take care of this."Josie laughed bitterly. "Besides, if I took care of this, Tyler would never forgive me."Shane's breathing quickened, and he started screaming hysterically, "Have you really fallen for Tyler Ford?!"Josie was silent for a while before replying softly, "Yes."Her answer was the last straw for Shane. "Impossible!" Shane's scream could shatter an eardrum. "I'm the one you love! Why would you love him?! You're lying! You must be lying to me!"Shane kept trying to convince himself and Josie otherwise by talking about their childhood, how she indulged him, and the moments of sexual tension between them.Josie remained silent thro

The smell of disinfectant was so strong that it hurt the nostrils.Josie opened her eyes, and the first thing she saw was the white ceiling. She tried moving her finger, and it felt like her skeleton had been taken apart and reassembled. It was painful."Awake?" Zoey was sitting by her bed and peeling the skin of an apple slowly with a knife. The blade reflected the cold light in her eyes. "You're pretty lucky to come out of this alive."Josie's throat felt scratchy. "Where's Tyler?""He's taking care of Elena next door." Zoey smiled maliciously. "I started the fire and drugged you and Elena, making you weak in the limbs so that you couldn't run. The first person Tyler saved was Elena."The apple skin broke, and Zoey flung it into the bin."You should see how anxious he was. He stood vigil by Elena the entire night and was nearly wailing."Zoey's words were like a blunt knife cutting into Josie's heart slowly. She was reminded of the cold, distant look in Tyler's eyes, and how h

Josie was standing in front of the window when someone knocked on the door. The cigarette between her fingers was almost completely burned up. She opened the door to see Zoey leaning against the door with a glass of amber-colored whiskey in her hand."I heard you punched Elena." Zoey raised an eyebrow and passed Josie the glass.Josie did not enjoy drinking, and she always drank tea instead, but in that moment, she needed something to numb the waves of emotion raging inside her. She took the glass from Zoey and finished it in one gulp. The burning feeling in her throat felt just like the suffocating feeling she had when she saw Tyler and Elena entangled in a passionate embrace."She was in bed with Tyler." Josie's voice was terribly hoarse. "I couldn't stand to see it.""Tyler?" Zoey suddenly laughed, but the look in her eyes was icy. "How interesting. It's been six years, and this is the first time I've heard you say my little brother's name so tenderly."It could be the effects
