Chapter 1

Author: Dreamreader
Ivy Rivers and I had been married for three years, yet we still hadn't registered our marriage legally.

Today marked the milestone of her 1,000th successful flight. It was also the 17th time she'd promised to finally register our marriage with me.

But at the celebration banquet, while her direct supervisor was forcing drinks on me, she was busy exchanging dishes and toasting with her male pilot apprentice.

Despite my high fever and drinking to the point of near collapse, she didn't even look my way. Numerous coworkers shook their heads and clucked their tongues, their eyes filled with sympathy as they regarded me.

Anyone with eyes could see who I was enduring this physical discomfort and drinking for. Yet after the celebration banquet ended, Ivy, who was supposed to go with me to City Hall to register our marriage, stood me up once again.

She drove the car to the restaurant entrance and blocked me from getting in with one hand.

"Owen drank a little too much on my behalf just now, so I'll be driving him home. You should take a cab back. We probably won't make it to City Hall this afternoon. Let's talk about it another day, okay?"

After saying this, she didn't care about my reaction at all. She hurriedly got out of the car and carefully helped Owen Gardner into the passenger seat.

We started dating eight years ago, and had been married for three years. This was already the 17th time Ivy had postponed our marriage registration because of Owen.

Usually at times like this, I would have broken down, shouting, arguing with her and demanding answers. Who exactly was her husband? Who had just been drinking on her behalf?

But this time, I just smiled slightly. "Alright, be careful on the road."

Ivy paused at my words, seemingly surprised by my calm attitude today. After a moment, she returned to her cold demeanor. "I'll buy you a gift to make up for it when I come back tonight."

With that, she drove off. Before leaving, she made a point of closing the car window for Owen, afraid the drunk man would catch a cold from the wind.

In the past, she'd never allowed any smell of alcohol to linger in her car. Every time I drank for her, she'd open the convertible top even in winter, let alone close the windows.

Looking back now, it was only because the person in the car was me. The noon heat in Orlion made people sweat profusely, but my heart felt inexplicably cold.

I took a deep breath and returned the marriage application forms to my bag. I knew it was time to let go of this eight-year relationship as well.

If it had been before, I would have definitely refused this company's decision, even if they offered me better pay and a higher position. But after these three years, my heart had completely healed. So I gladly accepted the company's arrangement. The day before returning home, I messaged my old friend and colleague, Mitchell."I'm coming back tomorrow. How are Mr. Guerra and the others?"Mitchell was beyond excited about my return. We talked for three solid hours, and he couldn't wait for me to board that plane. When my flight landed the next day, Mitchell was the first to greet me, along with my former supervisor and several colleagues.Time had left its mark on each of them. But when they saw me, they all looked surprised. These few years of living for myself hadn't aged me—I actually looked younger. It was only after landing that I learned why Ivy had suddenly disappeared two years ago.Apparently, she'd ended her mentor-apprentice relationship with Owen right after I left.

The next day, Ivy flew back home. But as she'd promised, she began flying only the Avalonia route. She'd arrive in Avalonia almost every week, and each time, she'd stand outside my door all night. I never let her in.Eventually, my life in Avalonia found its rhythm. I earned my diving certification, pilot's license, and paragliding certificate.I visited Crystal Canyon in the summer and went to the Silverpeak Mountains in winter.By year's end, I was named Meridian Airways' Employee of the Year and appointed Head of Cabin Crew for all of Avalonia's aviation sector. During this time, plenty of confident, attractive women pursued me, but I didn't engage with any of them.A wounded heart might eventually heal, but scars remained. My career came first now. This pattern continued for a long time. I focused on work while Ivy visited Avalonia, standing outside my door each time.It seemed this routine would go on forever. Then one day, Ivy stopped appearing at my doorstep. I heard noth

Meanwhile, I arrived safely at Avalonia airport. The moment I landed, over ten colleagues from Meridian Airways greeted me warmly. This was my third time in Avalonia. Logically, I shouldn't have felt familiar with this city, yet I felt remarkably relaxed looking at these unfamiliar surroundings.I knew why—from today on, I only needed to live for myself. Back home, I'd been the airline's best for seven consecutive years. I could do the same here.Better yet, everything I never had the chance to do with Ivy was now possible. Skiing, mountain climbing, skydiving, seeing the Northern Lights—there was so much to explore. What I didn't expect was to find Ivy waiting at my apartment when I came home from work on my second day in Avalonia. As a pilot, she never drank. But today, she reeked of alcohol. After just two days apart, she looked like she'd aged years. When she saw me, she stood and tried to approach. I instinctively took several steps back."Julian, I was wrong."These three

"What? Ivy, what did you say? You want to fly the Avalonia route? I didn't hear that wrong, did I? Didn't you once swear you'd never fly to Avalonia again in this lifetime?"Five years ago, I had to specially petition headquarters for you because of this, and they gave me an earful."A phone call came through less than a minute after Ivy sent her text. Sam Sporano's voice was tinged with shock and disbelief. An incident five years ago on a flight to Avalonia led Ivy to make a firm request to headquarters that she never be assigned another flight to Avalonia. If they didn't comply, she would resign. Everyone senior at the airline knew about this, so it was beyond surprising that she voluntarily requested the Avalonia route."I'm serious, Sam. Please help me petition headquarters again. It has to be as soon as possible!" Ivy's voice was unusually firm."What on earth happened?" Sam asked."Sam, let me ask you something. These past three years, does everyone think I've crossed

Ivy left the airport and drove home three hours later as the sky darkened. The moment she entered, she hung up her clothes as usual and stared at the spot where we used to hang the photo. Her gaze fell to the nearby trash can, where the broken glass shards and our photo were still sitting. She slowly crouched down and retrieved the photo from the trash. Looking at the background in the picture, she finally remembered—this photo was taken eight years ago when we went to a concert together. She also remembered the promise she'd made to me at that concert. It seemed that ever since Owen became her apprentice, she'd never gone to any concert with me. That was also when she'd started growing distant from me.Even so, she couldn't understand why I would leave. Whenever she'd let me down, she'd always make up for it with gifts. Just like last time, after watching the concert with Owen, she'd come back and bought me that Gucci belt. With this thought, she went to the bedroom and opened

  • Stand Me Up Again and It's Goodbye   Chapter 7

Ivy sat numbly in the airport for three whole hours after leaving the flight attendant center. During those three hours, memories kept flashing through her mind as she looked at every corner of this airport.Eight years ago, we first met at the security checkpoint. It was her first day transitioning from ground crew to flight crew. She'd been so excited she couldn't sleep the night before, leaving her somewhat off her game. She even dropped her work ID on the floor while going through security.I was the one who picked up her credentials, saving her from a potential mishap. That was how we learned each other's names. After that, she often invited me for late-night meals at the airport after flights. Once, twice, and before long, we went from acquaintances to lovers.During our time together, we explored every corner of this airport. Even better, we were soon assigned to the same routes—probably the luckiest thing that could happen to any airline couple. We flew domestic and inter
