Anna's POV The next morning, I woke up, brushed my teeth, and was getting ready for the day when I heard a knock on my door. I opened it and found my dad standing there. “I need to discuss something with you,” he said as he walked into my room. “What is it?” “You will have to accept the mate bond with Devon for the good of the kingdom.” My stomach tightened. Devon's POV I chased after Emily when she stormed out of the private hall, but she had already gotten into a car, and her driver had driven off. I quickly grabbed my keys from my room and drove to her house. When I arrived, I found her in the living room, screaming and throwing things around. I tried to get close to her, but she kept hitting me and blaming me for everything. Her parents soon arrived, and together we tried to calm her down. I pulled her into my arms and held her tightly. “Everything is going to be okay,” I assured her. She pushed against me, tears streaming down her face. “This is your fault! You can't do this to me. Please, Devon, don't go through with the mating bond with Anna.” I wanted to tell her that I wouldn't, but I just couldn't. Even when I had told her at the palace that I wouldn't go through with the bond, it had felt strange saying it. I didn't understand why. Then I smelled it again. That wonderful scent. I woke up and glanced at the clock. 5:00 a.m. I got out of bed, brushed my teeth, changed into my running clothes, and headed outside.
