One may simply think I don't like Emily because everyone will always choose her over me, but that's not all there is to it. I've seen the way she behaves toward people she thinks are beneath her. I'm not saying I'm the nicest person in the world. People sometimes call me mean, but I don't look down on people based on their social status. I find that sickening. I'm a year older than Emily, so I'm, in a sense, supposed to be responsible for her. Anything that goes wrong on Emily's part, I'm the one who gets blamed for it. I remember when we were younger and were just learning how to run in our wolf forms. Emily ran toward the woods and broke her leg. I was blamed relentlessly, even though I'd told her not to run that way. Then there's the way she always finds a way to remind me how perfect she is compared to me and how I don't belong in their life. But I can't really blame her because, to an extent, she's right. I don't belong in their life. I was an obstacle in their perfect little

The next morning, I got dressed and headed downstairs for breakfast. I was surprised to find only my dad at the table. I joined him, and he immediately looked up. "How are you feeling after yesterday?" "I'm fine," I replied, even though I knew he could tell I wasn't completely fine. He nodded. "What are you doing today?" "I'm going to hang out at Chloe's house." He finished his breakfast, stood up, and kissed me on the cheek. "I'll see you later. I have to get to work." "Okay. Bye, Dad." I grabbed my keys and drove to Chloe's house. When I got there, I found her lying across her bed with a book in her hands. I walked over to her, and she suddenly looked up, startled. I burst out laughing. "You should have seen your face." She shoved me playfully, making me fall onto the bed. "You're so annoying." "How's school going?" She immediately started complaining about her professor, and I couldn't help laughing. "Chloe, you're probably the one who's wrong. You argue w

Anna pov The full moon began to sink, but instead of feeling relieved, I became even more uneasy. My wolf was restless, driving me insane, and then I started to perceive a wonderful scent. I desperately wanted to find where it was coming from, but before I could move, I saw Devon approaching me with wide eyes. The closer he came, the stronger the scent became. He stopped in front of me. “Mate.” One word caused complete chaos. I was shocked and couldn't think properly. The old witch wasn't a phony. The spell had actually worked. My heart pounded as everything around me suddenly felt distant, like I was underwater and couldn't breathe. Then I heard a scream. I looked toward Emily and saw the anger burning in her eyes. Everyone was talking and staring at me until the Seeker shouted, “Silence!” The hall immediately went quiet. He called me toward him, and I followed him into a private hall with my father, Donna, the King, Queen, Devon, and Emily. Donna was the first to

Anna's POV The next morning, I woke up, brushed my teeth, and was getting ready for the day when I heard a knock on my door. I opened it and found my dad standing there. “I need to discuss something with you,” he said as he walked into my room. “What is it?” “You will have to accept the mate bond with Devon for the good of the kingdom.” My stomach tightened. I wanted to argue, but I couldn't. I was the one who had gone to the witch and caused all of this. I had made the decision, and now I would have to live with the consequences. “Okay,” I said. Dad looked relieved. “The royal family will be coming today to discuss the marriage, so get ready.” I followed him downstairs for breakfast. Only my brothers were at the table. Chris looked at me as I took my seat. “So, are you actually going to accept the bond?” “Yes. For the good of the kingdom.” Julian raised an eyebrow. “Our Anna is going to be a queen.” “Don't start.” Chris laughed. “You're going to make a very

Anna's POV I woke up to the sound of someone moving around my room. My eyes flew open, and I sat up. Chloe stood beside my bed. “What the hell? Why are you here this early?” She crossed her arms. “Because you've been ignoring my calls, so I came to catch you off guard.” “I haven't been ignoring you.” She raised an eyebrow. “Anna, I called you over twenty times.” “Fine. Maybe I was avoiding you a little.” She sat on my bed, her eyes lighting up. “Now tell me everything. What happened at the royal celebration?” I sighed. “The full moon rose, my wolf started acting strange, and then Devon walked up to me and called me his mate.” Chloe's mouth fell open. “And now we're getting married in two days.” “Anna!” “What?” “How do you feel about that?” “I don't know.” I shrugged. “But we're apparently fated mates, so I have to accept it. The kingdom needs the bond.” Chloe was quiet for a moment. Then she asked the question I had been expecting. “Did you visit the witch?” I turne
