Ashley didn’t expect the shift.

Not so soon. Not after Jax’s raw unraveling. Not after Nolan’s quiet break. Not after Ace practically rewired every nerve in her body.

But it came the moment she stepped out of the game room with Ace.

Cole was standing there at the end of the hall, hands in the pockets of his hoodie, shoulders relaxed but eyes locked on her.

Ace noticed him first.

“Well,” Ace drawled, flashing a wicked grin, “look who is queued up for his turn.”

Cole shot him a look.

“Ace,” he said flatly, “go away.”

Ace saluted dramatically. “With pleasure. Sunshine, hydrate.”

He winked at her and vanished around the corner.

Ashley turned to Cole… and froze.

He wasn’t smiling softly like he usually did.

“Cole?” she asked softly.

He walked toward her slowly. When he stopped in front of her, he reached up and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. His fingers brushed her cheek.

Cole’s jaw tightened slightly.

“I have been watching you hold everyone else together,” he said quietl
