"This should be quick and sweet."

I braced myself for what was coming, fear rising fast in my throat. This was it. No one was coming to save me.

The guy grabbed the front of my already stained shirt and yanked hard. The fabric tore at the collar with a sharp rip. Cold air hit my skin as another one laughed and stepped closer, his hand reaching for my waist.

"Stop!" I shouted, pushing against his chest with all my strength. "Get your hands off me!"

The leader grabbed my hair from behind and pulled my head back. "Fight all you want, Blackthorn's little whore. Everyone knows they will throw you away soon. Might as well let us have some fun first."

I tried to knee him but missed. Another guy pinned my arms to my sides. My heart pounded so hard it felt like it would explode. The smell of their sweat and cheap cologne filled my nose. I felt completely helpless.

"Please," I begged, my voice cracking. "Just let me go. I won't tell anyone."

The one holding my shirt laughed right in my face. "Too late for that. You walked around this school like you own it just because you live in their big house. Time to learn your place."

He leaned in closer, his breath hot and disgusting against my cheek. I closed my eyes tight, waiting for the worst.

A loud, sickening crack suddenly filled the air.

One of the guys flew backward like he had been hit by a truck. He crashed into the ground with a groan.

"What the hell?" the leader shouted, spinning around.

Damien stood there like a storm ready to destroy everything. His eyes were ice cold. His fists were already clenched. He looked terrifying.

"Take your hands off her," he said, his voice low and deadly. "Now."

The guys froze for half a second. Then the leader sneered. "This has nothing to do with you, Blackthorn."

Damien moved faster than I could follow.

He grabbed the guy holding my arms and slammed his elbow into the man's face. Blood sprayed. The guy dropped like a stone. Another one tried to swing at Damien, but he ducked easily and drove his fist straight into the attacker's stomach. The sound of bone hitting flesh made me flinch.

"Run!" one of them yelled.

But Damien was not done.

He caught the leader by the wrist, twisted it hard until I heard a sharp snap. The man screamed in pain. Damien kicked him in the chest, sending him flying into the wall. The last two tried to jump him together. Damien grabbed one by the throat and slammed him onto the ground. The final guy turned to run, but Damien caught him with a brutal kick to the back of the knee. The guy collapsed, crying out.

The entire fight lasted less than a minute. Damien stood in the middle of the fallen bodies, breathing steady, barely a hair out of place. His knuckles had a little blood on them, but it was not his.

He looked down at the leader, who was holding his broken wrist. "If any of you touch her again, I will do much worse. Tell your friends. Avery Voss is Blackthorn property. No one touches what belongs to us."

The guys groaned and crawled away as fast as they could. The path became quiet except for my heavy breathing.

Damien turned to me. His cold eyes scanned my torn shirt and stained clothes. For a moment, I thought I saw something flash across his face, but it disappeared fast.

"Come," he ordered.

He grabbed my wrist and started walking toward the parking lot. His grip was firm but not painful. I had to jog to keep up with his long strides. We reached his sleek black car. He opened the passenger door and practically pushed me inside before getting in the driver's seat.

The car roared to life and we sped away from the academy. My hands were still shaking. I could not stop replaying what I had just seen. Damien had destroyed those guys like it was nothing.

"Why did you do that?" I asked after a few minutes of heavy silence. "You said you wanted to break me. You told your brothers to break me quickly. So why save me?"

Damien kept his eyes on the road. His jaw was tight. "Because those idiots do not get to touch you. Only we do."

I stared at him in disbelief. "That makes no sense. You hate me. All three of you do. You made that very clear last night."

He let out a short, bitter laugh. "Hate is not the word I would use. You are an inconvenience. A weakness in our house. But you carry our last name now. That means something in this world. No outsider gets to disrespect it."

I pulled at the torn part of my shirt, trying to cover myself. "So you only saved me because of your precious name? Not because you actually care?"

Damien glanced at me for the first time. "Do not confuse protection with care, Avery. I do not care about you. But I will not allow anyone outside our family to break you. That right belongs to us."

His words hurt more than I expected. I looked out the window, watching the trees blur past.

"You are all monsters," I whispered.

"Perhaps," he replied calmly. "But we are the monsters who just saved you. Remember that that.

The car fell silent again. My body still trembled from fear and adrenaline. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Damien breaking that guy's arm like it was a twig. He was dangerous. All of them were.

After a long while, I spoke again. "What happens when you get bored of me? When breaking me is no longer fun? Will you throw me out like everyone says?"

Damien's hands tightened on the steering wheel. "You ask too many questions."

"I deserve answers," I shot back. "I am the one living in your house. I am the one being bullied because of your family name. The least you can do is tell me where I stand."

He pulled the car over to the side of a quiet road and turned to face me fully. His intense eyes locked onto mine. "You stand wherever we put you, Avery. Right now, you are under our roof. Under our protection. That means we decide what happens to you. Not those fools at school. Not anyone else."

I swallowed hard. "And when my mother and your father get tired of this marriage? What then?"

Damien leaned closer. "Then we will decide if you stay or go. Until that day comes, you follow our rules. You stay close. You do not make yourself an easy target again. Understand?"

I nodded slowly, even though I hated agreeing with him. "I understand."

He studied my face for a long moment. Then he reached out and brushed a strand of hair away from my eyes. The touch was surprisingly gentle after everything I had just witnessed.

"Good," he said quietly. "Now stop looking so scared. It makes me want to keep you closer than I should."

I pulled back slightly. "I am not scared of you."

"Liar," he replied, but there was almost a hint of amusement in his voice. He started the car again and drove us the rest of the way home.

When we finally reached the Blackthorn mansion, Damien parked and turned off the engine. He looked at me one last time.

"Go clean up and rest. Stay inside the house tonight. Things are getting complicated faster than I expected."

I opened the door and stepped out. My legs still felt weak. Before I closed the door, I turned back to him.

"Thank you," I said softly. "For stopping them."

Damien's expression did not change. "Do not thank me, Avery. Just learn to survive."

I shut the door and walked toward the mansion entrance. My torn shirt and stained clothes made me feel small again, but something had shifted. Damien had shown me exactly how dangerous he could be.

As I stepped inside the huge house, I realized the truth.

The Blackthorn brothers were not just cruel.

They were deadly.

And I was trapped right in the middle of their world.

I barely slept that night. When morning came, I dragged myself out of bed and got ready for my first day at Blackthorn Academy. I told myself I could handle it. I had survived worse schools before. But the moment I stepped out of the car, I knew today would be different."Look who decided to show up," a sharp voice called out as soon as I walked through the main gates. "The charity case who bought her way in with her mother's new marriage."Three girls I recognized from my old school stood waiting with a group of new faces. They surrounded me fast."Please, just leave me alone," I said quietly, trying to walk past them. The tallest girl, Mia, laughed loudly. "Leave you alone? After you stole one of the Blackthorn brothers' last name? I don't think so."They followed me down the hallway, their voices getting louder."Does she even have a scent?" one of them asked. "I heard she's completely broken. No wolf, no smell, nothing."Another girl stepped in front of me and shoved my books to t

I clutched my bag tighter and hurried down the dark hallway toward my new room, the sound of rain still pounding against the tall windows like a warning I should have listened to long ago.A strong hand grabbed my arm and yanked me sideways before I could even reach my door. I stumbled and nearly fell."Where do you think you're going so fast, little Omega?" Jax's deep voice rumbled right next to my ear. His grip was like iron.I gasped and dropped my bag with a thud. My back slammed against the cold wall. Jax towered over me, blocking out most of the weak hallway light. Shadows cut across his sharp face and the dark tattoos that climbed up his neck. He looked dangerous. And he knew it."Let me go," I said, trying to keep my voice steady even though my heart was racing. He smiled slowly. There was nothing kind in that smile. "Or what? You gonna scream? Go ahead. No one here cares."Jax stepped even closer. His big body pressed right up against mine. One of his thick thighs pushed betw

  • Stepbrother Alphas    Shattered Arrival

Rain poured down like the sky wanted me gone. I stood at the massive front doors of the Blackthorn mansion, soaked to the bone, my old duffel bag heavy in my hand. This was supposed to be my new home. It felt more like walking into a cage.Water ran down my face and mixed with the tears I refused to cry. My clothes clung to my skin, cold and heavy. I had spent the last hour standing outside because my mother told me to wait while she went in first with her new husband. Typical. She always put herself first.I raised my hand to knock, but the tall wooden doors swung open before I could touch them. A man in a crisp black suit looked me up and down like I was trash the rain had dragged in."You must be Avery," he said flatly. "Come inside. You're dripping everywhere."I stepped into the grand hall, my wet shoes squeaking loudly on the shiny marble floor. The sound echoed around the huge space. Crystal chandeliers hung high above, throwing cold, sharp light in every direction. Everything
