Lily:

I didn’t even hear the knock over the sound of my own heartbeat. The kiss had been so intense and reckless that the world outside my room had stopped existing. His hands were still on my waist, my breath still mingling with his, when the sound came again, loud and sharp.

“Lily! Mason! Are you kidding me right now?” Taylor’s voice rang through the door, full of irritation and disbelief. “Dinner is getting cold, and your dad just asked me to come get you two. So unless you both want to explain why you’re up here, I’d suggest you get your asses downstairs.”

Mason and I froze like two guilty teenagers caught red-handed. I stepped back immediately, trying to breathe like I hadn’t just been kissing my stepbrother like my life depended on it.

“I’m coming,” I called out, my voice embarrassingly shaky.

Taylor groaned. “Yeah, you better be.” She stomped away, muttering something about hormones and bad timing.
