Chapter 1

"Ms. Scott, are you sure you want to apply for an emotion transplant surgery? Once successful, your feelings for your lover will be permanently lost and irretrievable."

Jenna Scott was momentarily silent before answering firmly, "Yeah, I'm sure, and I'll never regret it."

The staff member on the other end of the phone stopped dissuading her. "Okay, Ms. Scott. The application process is expected to be completed within a month. We ask for your patience."

After hanging up, Jenna bought a plane ticket to a Malodian town for a month later. Just as she was about to turn off the screen, she received a message from Matthew Simmons.

Matthew: [Jenna, I just got off the plane. I'll be home soon.]

As Jenna closed her eyes, the sudden sting in her eyes made her mumble, "Liar."

He had gone to keep his lover company but lied to her, saying that he was on a business trip. He was merely assured that she had absolute confidence in him.

The way she found out about it was pretty dramatic.

Knowing Matthew would be back today, Jenna went out to buy some food ingredients, but she got into a car accident. Fortunately, her injuries were not serious, and only her calf was slightly injured.

However, after Jenna had her wounds bandaged, she saw Matthew, who was supposed to be on a business trip, in the hospital.

The domineering Matthew Simmons who was feared in the business world was like a child who had made a mistake, keeping his head down as he was scolded by the doctor. There was a young lady beside him, holding his arm.

Jenna took two steps forward and heard the doctor say, "No matter how in love you are, you still have to pay attention to your health. Excessive intimacy can cause abdominal pain and physical damage. In severe cases, it may lead to heavy bleeding."

The doctor paused before earnestly advising Matthew, saying, "Take it easy next time. Be nice to your girlfriend."

Matthew quickly nodded in response.

The lady next to him playfully glared at him. "It's all your fault. You always use so much force."

Matthew pulled her into his arms and kissed her lovingly. "Okay, okay. Stop being mad. I'll be gentle next time."

Jenna had never seen him so flirtatious and carefree. He was always gentle and restrained in front of her.

Jenna laughed at herself and lamented again that Matthew was great at pretending.

Although Matthew said he would be back soon, he did not return until sunset. He returned with a large bouquet of white roses.

Jenna was curled up on the couch with her knees in her arms when she heard him and subconsciously looked up.

"Jenna, why didn't you turn on the lights at home?" He pressed the switch, and the living room, which had been completely dark, lit up instantly.

Jenna stared blankly at him. She slowly scanned his face, trying to find something different from before. However, there was nothing; he seemed just like usual. Even the look in his eyes as he gazed at her was filled with familiar affection.

Matthew looked down at the bleeding wound on Jenna's calf, and his pupils constricted. "Why are you hurt?" He then hurriedly grabbed the first aid kit, held Jenna's ankle, and carefully helped her take care of her wound. "Jenna, how did you get injured?"

His concerned and distressed expression seemed real, not fake at all.

Jenna's eyes instantly reddened as she whispered, "I got into a car accident while I was out today."

"Why didn't you contact me..." Matthew suddenly stopped halfway through his sentence. As if realizing something, he abruptly lowered his eyes, his voice tinted with guilt. "I'm sorry, Jenna. I should've come back earlier."

A hint of mockery gradually appeared on Jenna's face. Those indulging in pleasure would not be willing to withdraw from it so easily. With that in mind, she said indifferently, "It's alright. Work is important."

After a pause, she looked down and whispered, "Your birthday is in a month. I'll prepare a gift that will please you."

Her lashes were long and thick, almost concealing the emotions in her eyes when she looked down. Matthew did not notice anything unusual about her. The moment he heard that Jenna was going to prepare a gift for him, his eyes instantly lit up with surprise. "I'll be counting down the days. My darling Jenna, you always know how to handle me."

Jenna looked at Matthew, whose face was brimming with sweetness and joy. A sudden wave of bitterness surged in her heart.

Having dated for five years and married for seven, she had never missed his birthday in the past 12 years. The 12 gifts from previous years were carefully placed in the storage closet. Jenna supposed he would also be pleased with this year's birthday gift. After all, he liked that lady very much.

Matthew's smile fell apart. Soon, he could no longer continue smiling. "Jenna, have you really thought this through?"Without waiting for Jenna's reply, he eagerly added, "But all men are the same. Snap out of it! He's only nice to you because he hasn't won your heart yet. Once he gets it, he'll make the same mistake I did..."Jenna looked calmly at him. "So what? I've never given up on love. One failure doesn't mean I'll be depressed and never believe in love again. Maybe I'll marry him, maybe I won't. But whatever the outcome, it has nothing to do with you. Matthew, spare yourself and spare me."Every word struck Matthew's heart like a heavy blow.'Spare... her?' Matthew thought as he watched Jenna's mouth open and close. Soon, he suddenly heard a buzz. Intense pain spread from his chest to his whole body. It seemed to turn into countless steel needles, stabbing every inch of his skin. The pain swallowed him in endless darkness. The sounds he could hear softened until they disapp

Amanda looked at Matthew's listless look and eventually compromised. She could only shamelessly beg Jenna again.Knowing Amanda's intention, Jenna shook her head. "Mrs. Simmons, I'm very sorry. I don't want anything to do with Matthew anymore, and it's inappropriate for me to see him now."Amanda's expression was a little stiff. Hearing her last sentence, Amanda subconsciously answered, "Why is it inappropriate? Jenna, do you have any concerns?"Jenna smiled, looking shy. She was also smiling more. "Because I'm afraid it'll upset my boyfriend."The answer was like a grenade. Amanda did not expect Jenna to get a new boyfriend so soon. After two knocks, the bedroom door was pushed open, and Sebastian's voice sounded in the doorway. He smiled gently at Jenna. "Jenna, how much longer do you need? I've come to take you out to eat.""I'll be done soon." Jenna smiled back at him and beckoned him to sit next to her before looking back at Amanda. "Mrs. Simmons, is there anything else you

Watching Matthew spit blood and look as if he were in extreme pain, Luna dropped the dagger to the ground as if she was suddenly triggered to her senses. She screamed at the blood on her hands, and the security guard at the bar entrance called the police.Soon, the police and ambulance arrived and took Luna and Matthew away.Matthew was taken to the emergency room, his life and death uncertain.Hearing the news, Amanda was so worried that she fainted. Henry was on a business trip out of town, so no one was around to take care of the mess. When Jenna received the call, she and Sebastian were discussing when to return to Malodia. The caller said she was the patient's only emergency contact and told her to get to the hospital as soon as possible.Jenna calmly responded, "I'm sorry, but I have nothing to do with him. You've got the wrong person."She hung up without hesitation as if she had moved on completely.Seeing her calmness, Sebastian faked a sigh. "Jenna, when are you going

Matthew drank all day long after the divorce. It was as if he could forget everything by drowning himself in liquor. Every day, he flipped through photo albums of him and Jenna. He reprinted them and pasted them all over his bedroom. Plopping down on the floor, he looked at the photos and burst into tears.Whenever he came home in the past, the lights would be on and she would be waiting for him no matter how late it was. He put aside his work and drank at home all day but could not see the person who loved him wholeheartedly anymore.Matthew was afraid to sleep. Every time he closed his eyes, all he could think about was memories of them together, but those happy memories were always followed by scenes of him betraying and deceiving Jenna, which left him torn.He began to be afraid of staying at home alone and invited all his friends out for drinks. However, he only drank without saying a word after getting to the bar. His friends sat aside looking at each other, but no one dared t

It was rainy and cold on the day Jenna returned.Sebastian immediately took off his coat and put it on her, and she smiled at him.Matthew, who was not far away, looked at their actions and felt pain surge in his heart. He stepped forward and looked at Jenna with vulnerability and anticipation. "Jenna, I'm here to take you home."Jenna took Sebastian's arm and answered indifferently, "Mr. Simmons, please get out of the way. I don't have a home with you."Looking at her indifferent gaze, Matthew's heart hurt like it had been stabbed. He clenched his fists and pursed his lips. He forced down his unwillingness and agony before giving way reluctantly."See you tomorrow at 8:00 am. I hope you won't be late," Jenna added. After saying that to Matthew, who had frozen on the spot, she took Sebastian's arm and hailed a cab before leaving without hesitation. After watching the car drive away, Matthew only felt an emptiness. Endless loneliness and frustration surged and engulfed him. He cou

  • Still a Blessing When I Start Over   Chapter 20

Jenna was sitting in her coffee shop, buying a plane ticket. She had to return to settle the divorce. After confirming nothing was wrong, she looked up to meet Sebastian's unusually deep gaze. "Why are you looking at me like that?""Jenna, are you going back because you've decided to forgive him?" Sebastian sounded a little nervous. The eagerness and sadness in his eyes were so strong that Jenna felt something strange flickering through her heart. She subconsciously pushed the two bottles of wine on the counter to him. "Would you like to have a drink with me?"Jenna had not had a good drink like this in years. Sebastian silently drank with her, listening to her intermittently talk about the past. The alcohol got to her head, so she said childishly, "I won't forgive that jerk. I'm going back to divorce him!"Sebastian paused, feeling intense joy. He thought, 'Turns out she's going back to get a divorce! That's great!'He was about to say something when Jenna hung her head low as
