"Tell me, you followed me after that incident in the hotel," his hazel eyes dark, his voice carrying a dangerous tone.
There were a lot of women who had tried to climb in his bed using different kinds of schemes. It was Jade who had finally succeeded in binding him to this loveless marriage.
Jade stepped back and tripped on her gown. She fell and her bottom kissed the floor with a loud thud. She whimpered due to fright and the pain on her bottom.
Shaking her head negatively, she denied his accusation. "I didn't stalk you, believe me."
She sobbed and hiccuped at the same time. She closed her eyes and fought the image of her parents being killed.
"Ahhh!" She held her ears and shook her head continuously to shut off the sound of gunshots and the images of his parents being murdered.
Tyler frowned and was baffled at her reaction. He wondered if she was just putting on an act for him not to be suspicious of her.
"No!!!" She begged and hugged her knees. She was like a scared animal being cornered.
To see her like that, Tyler felt a tug at his heart. He put down his gun on the nightstand.
Then he stepped forward toward Jade who was crying as she hugged her knees.
He squatted in front of her. And held her shoulder. "Jade, look at me."
"Please, don't kill me," her tear filled blue eyes looked at him full of dread.
All of a sudden, her vision turned black.
"Jade, Jade," Tyler shook her but there was no response from her.
He picked her up from the floor and took her to the bed. After he settled her on the bed, he sat beside her, staring at her beautiful but pale face.
'I have scared her to death.'
He was about to call a servant to remove her gown and put her on her nightclothes but he decided against it. He must be careful if he wants this mission to succeed. It took him half an hour to rally his courage to remove her gown. He was starting to unzip her gown but came to a halt when his phone rang.
He grabbed the phone and answered it quickly afraid that Jade would be woken up.
"Tyler," Sophia's sultry voice came over from the other end of the line.
"Hi," Tyler replied while he walked towards the floor to ceiling window. He leaned on it while looking at the sleeping woman on the bed.
"Happy birthday!" She greeted him cheerfully.
However, Tyler's heart was ridiculously glum. He always felt this way since he was sent to the States to study.
He felt like a piece of him was missing.
"Thank you," he sounded happy though he didn't feel like doing it just to not upset her.
He can't upset her as she's the only precious person left in his life apart from his sickly half brother.
"Where are you?" Sophia asked as Tyler's end of the line was completely silent. It's his birthday, he must be celebrating with his comrades, however, she could hear no noise at all.
"Home," he replied, his gaze trained on the woman on the bed still on her wedding gown.
"You didn't celebrate?" Sophia asked in disbelief. "Why?" She added.
"I don't have a reason to celebrate," Tyler answered lazily.
Sophia thought that it's because she didn't come home that he didn't feel like celebrating his birthday.
"I'm sorry honey, I couldn't make it on your birthday but I'll make it up to you. I'll be by your side everyday," she said to cheer him up. "We'll be together every waking moment of our lives."
Tyler clutched his phone so tightly that he could almost crash it.
"Yeah," he replied between his gritted teeth, his eyes still on the woman on his bed.
Tyler looked outside with a brooding countenance. His hazel eyes glinted while he pondered. After a while he turned towards the door and went to the study.
He changed his mind and let Jade sleep on her wedding gown.
It was already in the middle of the night when he decided to return to his room.
Jade was seated on the bed when he opened the door. She stood and walked towards him but her eyes were shut.
"Jade," he called her but she walked past him.
"She has a sleep disorder," he muttered under his breath.
He picked her up in his arms and carried her to the bed and tucked her under the duvet. Then he went to have a shower.
Jade was no longer on the bed when he turned up in the bedroom. The door was ajar.
"This woman," he muttered in exasperation and hurried outside.
Tyler darted towards Jade as she was approaching the landing. He held Jade's arm just in time, if he was a bit late, her fall was inevitable.
Tyler took her back to the bedroom. He held her in his arms concerned that she would sleepwalk again and the servants would find her still in her wedding gown.
Her sweet and comforting scent wafted to his nose. He frowned at the thought that came across his mind.
Nevertheless, he held her in his arms all through the night and had a sound sleep which he hadn't experienced for a long time.
"Ahhhh!" A scream tore through the silence, waking Tyler from his first deep sleep after so long.
Jade hugged her knees as she trembled in fear.
"What's wrong?" Tyler asked in daze.
"Don't kill me, please. I didn't do anything wrong," Jade pleaded, rocking herself as she hugged her knees.
Tyler said nothing. He left her and took a shower.
Later, after getting dressed. Tyler found Jade still in the same position when he left her a while ago.
He shook his head and said, "Go and have a shower. The maids are coming to clean the room. You wouldn't let the servants know that we are married on paper only. Are you?"
Jade understood what he meant and looked at him.
Compared to the expression he wore last night while he pointed a gun at her, his icy cold face is more acceptable. Way much better than that ferocious looking face. It was like he could tear her apart.
"What are you waiting for?" He growled when Jade just stared at him.
Jade held her chest nervously. She felt like she would die before she could avenge her parents’ death..
Getting irritated at Jade's jumpiness, Tyler left the room with a huff.
He was beginning to doubt that this woman has the capability to help them complete the mission of extirpating the rebellion in the nation.
He felt like his sacrifice of marrying her was wasted and went down the drain.
Jade went downstairs after getting dressed. She stood rooted on her spot when her gaze landed on Tyler's bone chilling gaze. Tyler inched forward, eating up the distance between them in a mere seconds with his large strides. "Where do you think you're going?" Tyler murmured when he was close to her, then snaked his arm on her waist and pulled her closer to him. Consumed by the success of the mission, Tyler had been vigilant at all time. "Don't forget our mission," he whispered in her ear. Jade's thick long lashes fluttered. Heat crept up her face, turning it to crimson red. She rested her palm against his chest to push him away. "Thank you for reminding me, I'll always remember it," she smiled sweetly at him. She will never let herself forget her revenge. She has to exact retribution for the death of her parents. Sensing someone was staring at them. Tyler leaned forward and gave her a peck on the cheek. Due to shock, her eyes went wide as a saucer. "Someone is looking at us,"
Jade's face contorted as she tried hard to contain the rage in her heart. The main reason she decided to go to her apartment was to have some peace. But this man wouldn't let her have a respite."I'll come back before dusk," she said, hoping that he would let her go by herself. "I will go with you, whether you like it or not," he spat his words authoritatively like a military general giving orders to his subordinates. She can't show her anger so she resorted to mocking him. "Sir, yes, sir, " Jade said as if she saluted her commander. Instead of getting exasperated at her mocking, Tyler's lips twitched. Tyler held her hand the whole time they made their way to where his car was parked. Jade couldn't do anything but to swallow her anger. She can't even scowl at Tyler as there were servants looking at them. "Where to madam?" Tyler said, while Jade buckled up. She raised her eyebrow, trying to decipher if he was teasing her. However, she's got no clue as his expression was col
"Head back to the mansion to have lunch," she told him without looking at him and went out of the room. Tyler's face darkened. No one has ordered him what to do besides his superiors in the military. Jade was the first one who dared to it He exasperatedly followed Jade outside. He saw her going to the open plan kitchen and walked over to her. After taking out some ingredients from the fridge, Jade turned to the island and was surprised to see Tyler seated on the chair. "Why are you still here?" She asked, carefully suppressing the irritation she felt to seep through her voice. However, Tyler could hear her tone tinged with annoyance but he couldn't be bothered. He decided to annoy her to death. "I'm too lazy to drive," Tyler said leisurely watching her reaction. Blood rushed through her head, making her seeth in anger. She felt like throwing the ingredients to his face but held back her anger. She put down the ingredients on top of the island and turned around. This is absolu
Witnessing how her parents were killed, she grew up fearful and easily intimidated. Jade hugged her knees, regretting that she angered him. Her eyes burned with unshed tears turning her rims red. "I'm giving you an hour to do what you have to do," he ordered. Jade darted to her room not wasting a second. Her hands were shaking as she typed on her laptop. The woman's trembling figure somewhat pricked Tyler's conscience that he relented on lashing her verbally. Thirty minutes after Jade left him alone in the living room, Tyler's phone rang. He accepted the call, stood up and went to the floor to ceiling window overlooking the beautiful mountain scenery. "Hi," Tyler whispered. "Tyler, I heard you got married," Sophia cried at the end of the line. A crease formed between his brows as he knitted his eyebrows. "It's just on paper. I did it to have my inheritance." "Tyler, you said we are getting married after my contract here," Tyler could hear her voice like she was hyperven
Jade held her foot and gave it a massage before she got up from the bed. She bit her lower lip because of the pain, and walked towards the door dragging her left foot. "Where are you going?" Tyler asked indifferently."My luggage is in your car and I have to get an ice pack for my sprained ankle," Jade meekly said, Tyler pursed his lips. 'This woman doesn't want to ask for help. Stubborn!'Tyler pressed a button on the intercom. "Bring my wife's luggage up here and bring an ice pack as well." Goosebumps covered Jade's entire body upon hearing the word 'wife'. She froze and her feet were stuck on the floor. "Are you going to stand there forever?" Tyler said when she wasn't moving from where she stood. "You better rest your feet so you won't walk limping when we go back to the old mansion." Jade began to walk towards the couch and suddenly she was lifted from the floor. The suddenness of being lifted from the floor caused her to hug his neck in panic. Tyler froze as her soft bo
Jade couldn't find words to rebut him and remained silent. She can only blame herself. If she hadn't been careless she wouldn't have tripped and sprained her ankle. She held her peace and reluctantly allowed Tyler to give her sprained ankle a gentle massage while he applied the ointment. While Tyler was rubbing her ankle, she thought of ways to avoid situations like this.Jade was snapped back from her trance when she was suddenly lifted from the couch and was in his arms. "You…" Jade was cut back off when she heard the giggles coming from the maids. The maids were looking at them, apparently exhilarated watching the couple acting lovey dovey. Rather than protesting, Jade pursed her lips. To hide her embarrassed expression she looked down and her eyes landed in Tyler's neck. However, her fair and clear skin turned crimson red as her face heated up seeing Tyler's sexy Adam's apple rolling up and down. Contrary to what he had done a while ago, throwing her on the bed, Tyler gentl
It's time for Tyler to practice his acting skill again as they have arrived in the old mansion. He tucked Jade's hand in his arm as they walked towards the mansion. "Relax," Tyler whispered when he sensed that she was jittery. Envious eyes greeted Jade as they walked past the young women who had eyed Tyler as their prospective husband were either gritting their teeth or fisting their hands into a ball. Not even bothering to hide what they felt towards her and blatantly showed it. Jade felt tensed at the glare she was receiving from them but she managed to wear an indifferent expression."Tyler," a sultry voice called Tyler's name. Jade turned her had to look at the source of the sultry voice. A beautiful woman with a voluptuous body coming near them, wearing something that left nothing to the imagination, giving Tyler a suggestive smile. The urge to snigger was too strong to resist, albeit Jade maintained her indifferent expression. "Happy birthday," she said and hugged Tyler
Jade could feel the lingering heat on the jacket suit. She turned to look at the person who draped the jacket suit on her shoulder. Disappointment stung Jade's heart as she somehow thought that her husband came back for her. She bowed her head, as her eyes were expressing the disappointment and she was powerless to push it back. She didn't let her savior know what she was feeling right now. That would be ungrateful of her. "Drink this, so you could feel warm," Xerxes gave her the glass with brandy to Jade while she had her head lowered. Though she was shivering, Jade's heart felt warm at his gesture. Her prejudice against Xerxes was instantly changed. She misjudged this man. Jade looked up to the man and said with a warm smile. "Thank you, but I don't drink." Xerxes sighed. His jacket suit did only little to make her warm. She was soaking wet and it's mid - autumn. "But you will catch a cold. Drink a little just to warm your body." Jade shook her head and thought for a while. S
