When I opened my eyes again, I was lying in a hospital bed. My abdomen and back were wrapped in bandages, but a sharp, gnawing pain kept pulsing through me.

Valeria sat beside the bed, her eyes red and swollen. She clutched the cooperation agreement in her hands.

"You're awake," she said, her voice rough. "Mateo is dead. The Leone family has been dealt with, with help from the Gambinos. Your parents' names are cleared—everyone in the underworld knows now. They were loyal people who were framed."

I tried to smile, but it tugged at the wounds and made me wince. "That's… good."

"I'm sorry," Valeria suddenly choked out, tears spilling down her face. "All these years, I blamed you. I shouldn't have doubted you or been so cruel. If I had realized sooner… Sophia would still be here, and Bruno would still be alive. And you… You wouldn't have suffered like this."
