I looked at the little white flower on my desk with its tiny petals glowing softly under the office lights. It looked so out of place between my laptop and the messy pile of scripts and reports that I was supposed to review.

But I couldn’t stop looking at it. It was strange how something so small could make me smile every time I looked at it

  • Stolen from The Billionaire    Chapter 34

Marie Flashback (Eight years ago at the Hospital)I still remember that night, eight years ago. It was the night that Daisy came into the world. It was raining so hard I could barely see the road when I got out of the taxi. I was nineteen, alone, and terrified, and the pain in my stomach was so hard and sharp that I struggled to breathe every few seconds. I could barely stand or walk, but I managed to push myself through the hospital doors. The lights inside were bright, too bright that I started blinking just to get rid of the sight. Everything felt loud, the nurses talking, the wheels of the stretchers, the beeping machines….my heart was racing, and hot tears were already running down my wet face.“Please,” I cried, as I gripped the counter. “I think…I think the baby’s coming …”Another sharp pain hit me that moment, and I screamed because it felt like my whole body was breaking open from the inside. A nurse rushed around the counter immediately to hold me before I fell.“Don’t wor

It was strange how something so small could make me smile every time I looked at itIt had happened barely an hour ago when I was walking too fast down the hallway, reading an email on my phone. Then I bumped into someone hard.“Oh my goodness,” I gasped as the man’s files scattered across the floor. He laughed, and it was a deep and warm one that instantly made me blush.“No, no, it’s my fault. I should’ve been watching.”We both bent to pick up the papers, and when I looked up, I saw him clearly for the first time. He was tall, with neat chestnut brown hair, kind brown eyes and that easy

  • Stolen from The Billionaire    Chapter 32

MaverickI lied to Marie that night. I didn’t forget anything. The truth was that I couldn’t sleep. I had been in my penthouse, sitting at my desk with a glass of scotch and a pile of work documents that I couldn’t bring myself to read. There were merger documents, financial reports, investor memos and many more, but all of them blurred together, and every time I tried to focus, my mind went straight back to her.Her voice, her stubbornness and the way she looked at me in that storage room. After lunch with my mum, I told myself that I was going to stay away. I told myself that it was safer and smarter, and the last thing I wanted was to blur the lines of what was already a complicated, fake relationship. But at 2am, none of that mattered because before I could bring myself back to my senses, so I grabbed my car keys and walked out of that penthouse. I didn’t take my jacket or even had a plan, all I had was the ridiculous aching need to see her….to be near her.The drive to the estate

  • Stolen from The Billionaire    Chapter 30

MarieI blinked as I lowered the vase slowly. “What the hell are you doing here?”He released my wrist slowly, though I saw his hesitation before he did so. “I forgot something.”I stared at him in unexpected surprise. “At midnight?”He shrugged nonchalantly like it explained everything. “I couldn’t sleep.”I sighed. My body was still shaking from the adrenaline as I studied him like he was a foreign object. “You almost got hit with a vase, you know.”“I noticed,” he said dryly. “You’ve got quite the swing.”His mouth twitched, and I saw the ghost of a smile.I scowled as I dropped the vase on the floor just against the wall. Rosa would see it later in the morning and return it to where it belongs.“Next time, use your phone like a normal person.”He ignored that and started walking toward the stairs. I hesitated, then followed him, partially because I still didn’t trust that he wasn’t here for some strange reason, and also because I couldn’t stop myself from following him. When he tu

  • Stolen from The Billionaire    Chapter 29

MarieThe driver dropped me off in front of Maverick’s mansion inside the gated estate, and when I stepped inside, the warm smell of delicious food filled my nose.Rosa’s head popped out from the kitchen door. Her hair was tied in a neat bun, and her warm eyes softened when she saw me.“You are back, niña” she said with her thick Spanish accent. “Go and shower, dinner will be ready soon.”I forced a small smile on my face. “Okay, Rosa.”She nodded, and turned back to her pots and pans, while I climbed the stairs slowly with my feet dragging against the marble steps. I didn’t want her to notice anything was wrong, so I kept my expression calm…..But inside me? Everything was spinning. In my room –or at least the room I chose to call mine, I took off my clothes and stepped into the shower where I closed my eyes and let water pour down my skin. But even the warm relaxing water couldn't wash away the thoughts running through my head. That kiss that almost happened with Maverick. It played
