RYAN

She turned.

Just as quickly as she’d come in, she spun on her heel like she’d changed her mind, like seeing me had startled something deep inside her.

She was about to walk out.

No.

No.

I jolted up and rushed toward her, cutting through the few feet of space between us. My hand caught hers right before she could pull the door open.

“Bella… what the hell is going on?”

She stopped walking. Her hand was small in mine. Warm and real.

God, it was her. She was real.

“How did you survive the accident?” I asked, my voice low but trembling. “They told me you were dead. I saw the reports. I… I mourned you, Bella.”

She still wouldn’t look at me. Her eyes were locked on the ground like maybe if she didn’t meet my gaze, she could pretend this moment wasn’t happening.

“What happened?” I pressed, stepping in front of her. “Why didn’t you reach out? Why did you disappear? Why did you go into hiding?”

Nothing.

Not a single word. Just silence.

She looked up slowly, her eyes glassy with emotion, li

RICARDOI didn’t want to tell him like this.God, I really didn’t.Watching Ryan crumble in front of me was like watching someone I once swore I hated… break in a way I wouldn’t wish on anyone. He looked like a storm had ripped through his chest, torn out everything that made him stand, and left him there swaying, trying to make sense of the ruins. But the truth had to be said.He needed to know who Rafael really was.“I didn’t want to tell you like this,” I said quietly, watching him clutch the gun like it was the only thing keeping him upright. “But you deserve the truth. You deserve to know who he really is. Who he’s always been.”He didn’t speak. Just stared at me, his chest rising and falling like he was drowning.I took a slow breath, trying to pace the words before they gutted him.“Lucas… I got to find out you were working with him.” I began, my voice barely audible. “But then he was playing you. He was working with other people.”Ryan’s head jerked slightly, his eyes narrowin

RYANI couldn’t move.Couldn’t think.Tears just kept falling, carving paths down my face. I wasn’t even aware of them. I wasn’t aware of anything.I was numb.Too stunned to speak. Too broken to scream. Too empty to feel the weight of her body still in my arms.Bella was gone.Somehow, I forced myself to set her down gently, like laying a piece of my soul on the floor. Then I stood. My legs barely working, my mind detached. I walked out of the restaurant like a ghost, through overturned chairs, past wide-eyed strangers and shouts I couldn’t hear. My body moved, but my heart… it stayed back there with her.I made it to the parking lot and stumbled toward my car, my hands trembling as I reached for the keys.I didn’t know what I was doing. Only that I needed to get the car close. To carry her. To get her out of there. Away from the flashing phones and gawking eyes. But as I opened the car door, I paused.Ricardo was already inside.Sitting calmly in the passenger seat like a demon I’d

  • Stripper by Night, Doctor by Deception    It was true

RYANThe burial was over. The mourners were gone. The flowers were starting to wilt. The air had grown quiet again.I sat on the corridor steps of my father’s house. My house now. My eyes traced the lines of the building, the smooth arch of the balcony railings, the stretch of land beyond the gate. This place. This empire. These companies. They were all mine now.But I didn’t know what I wanted to do with any of it. I didn’t feel powerful. I didn’t feel like a man who had inherited a kingdom. I just felt… lost.I let out a slow breath and leaned my head against the pillar beside me.Rafael came out quietly and sat next to me without saying a word. His hand found mine, warm and steady like always. He hadn’t left my side through any of it. Not the hospital. Not the funeral. Not even the awkward, sterile meeting with board members earlier that morning.God, I didn’t deserve him.“We can take a break now,” Rafael said softly, his thumb brushing mine. “Let everything settle before we even

  • Stripper by Night, Doctor by Deception    The knock

RYANShe couldn’t talk. The nurse just stood there, her lips pressed together, eyes glistening like she’d already said this a thousand times and it never got easier. But she didn’t have to speak. I already knew.Still, I clung to the silence like it might somehow change things. Then the door opened again. This time, a doctor stepped out. Mid-forties, maybe. Calm face. No emotion. That kind of calm that only made everything feel worse. He cleared his throat, glanced between me and Rafael, then said it.“I’m sorry… we did everything we could.”That was it.Eight words.Eight words that shattered everything inside me.My ears rang. My vision blurred. The room tilted sideways like the walls had caved in. My knees buckled, and I stumbled backward into the chair behind me like gravity was too much. My mouth was open, but I couldn’t breathe, couldn’t speak, couldn’t cry.He was gone.Gone.I stared blankly at the doctor, as if maybe he’d realize he made a mistake. As if maybe he’d say, Wait…

  • Stripper by Night, Doctor by Deception    Tell me he’s okay

RYANI was so disorganized, I didn’t even know what to do.My thoughts were a mess. Was this real? Or was someone messing with me?My heart was pounding so hard, I could barely breathe. A thousand questions circled in my head… Why now? Who sent this? Where the hell has she been? And most terrifying of all:What if it’s true?A sudden knock on the door made me jump like I’d been electrocuted.I fumbled to lock my phone and shove it under a pillow just before the door creaked open. My father stepped in, looking concerned.“Ryan,” he said gently, “what’s going on?”I shook my head quickly. “Nothing. I’m fine.”He stepped closer, his eyes narrowing like he could see right through the lie. “You’re pale. You’re shaking. And you rushed out of your own engagement party like someone lit a fire under you.”I forced a laugh, brushing my hand through my hair. “Dad, really. I just needed a minute. Too many emotions, you know? That proposal… it just caught me off guard.”He sat beside me, his voice
