“Who are you people and what could you possibly want from me? A lowlife woman? Please let me go, I beg of you,” Phoebe started pleading as soon as the car had gone some distance. If they were going to kill her, they could go ahead as she was already dying a million times from the fear of the unknown. Her mind ran wild as she tried to figure out where all this was coming from but she was unable to pinpoint it. She has always lived a simple life and made sure to avoid creating enemies so why exactly was she here? She was very certain that they had mistaken her for someone else but how was she going to convince them? Having so much on her table already, she wasn’t ready to go through whatever fate the real victim was to go through. Yes, it was a selfish thought but who wouldn’t be under such conditions?

“Please let me go, I beg of you. I won’t say a word about this to anybody, I promise.”

Her pleas must have amused one of the men as he broke into a weird laughter. Phoebe paused as she wondered what the laughter was about but then the voice began to speak.

“You must be very stupid to think anyone would give two fucks if you go missing. Do you think anyone would notice your disappearance? Oh yeah, except for that excuse of a father you’ve got,” he hissed with so much hatred that Phoebe was left wondering who he was and why he was talking like he had a beef with her. The men she’d seen were nothing close to being familiar so why then was he addressing her with so much spite? How does he even know about her father?

Concluding that it was useless begging these people as it was a waste of time and the energy she didn’t have, she decided to resign to fate and wait for whatever was in store for her. The vehicle drove in an uncomfortable silence for hours and the silence made her uneasy as her mind conjured up stories to back up her unexpected kidnap. Her first guess was Trevor. Did he send people to abduct her? Or even kill her?

Why?

To keep her hidden forever?

That single thought disrupted the peace she was starting to feel as her heart resumed thumping, this time at a much faster pace.

Trevor doesn’t seem to be that kind of a man.

Do you even know him? Her mind opposed again.

If she’d learned anything in the past few months, it was that Trevor didn’t care about anything aside from his family name and was willing to go to any length to keep it safe. And keeping his fling with her a secret fits well into that description.

Phoebe’s mind was still in turmoil when the sound of a gate opening pulled her back to reality. She’d lost track of how long they’d been driving but sensing that they must have gotten to their destination, she braced up for what was to come.

“Come on out, lovely dear,” one of her abductors said in a sugar-coated tone as soon as the car’s engine died down. The man sitting behind her pulled her out and was immediately helped by a second pair of hands who came to grab her other arm. She tried to break free from their grasp but they were no match for her. She had no idea of what the place looked like thanks to the blindfold. They guided her into what felt like an empty room or a hall from how their footsteps echoed. As if they were machines being controlled, they stopped abruptly and let go of her hands simultaneously. Phoebe raised her head as she tried to look from under the blindfold but it was useless as she was met with pitch darkness.

What now? She wondered as her breaths came out in pants with her heart banging like it was going to break out from her chest any minute. She was sure to have a heart problem if it continued that way.

Goosebumps broke out from her skin as her ears picked up the sound of one alighting from a staircase. From the sound the shoe made as it made contact with the floor, to the way the atmosphere of the room changed, Phoebe was certain that it was him.

“Mission was successful, boss,” one of the men that had brought her in remarked but to Phoebe’s disappointment, was met with no reply. After some minutes that felt like hours, she was soon standing face-to-face with this person of power.

“Remove the blindfold,” an unfamiliar male voice gave a single order, and the blindfold was untied at the go.

Phoebe winced as she shut her eyes involuntarily from the light that assaulted her eyes. She’d been in a haste to see the man behind the voice that she hadn’t taken precautions. Slowly, she opened her eyes again, one at a time, as they got accustomed to the light.

The fancy chandelier that was the source of the light was the first thing that caught her eye. Glancing around her surroundings, her jaw dropped as she admired the place. The whole place screamed luxury. Tearing her eyes away from the beautiful view, she turned to the person who wanted to give her high blood pressure but was greeted with yet another beautiful view.

Her kidnapper was a six-feet tall man who looked to be in his early thirties. He had an ear piercing that looked so hot. As opposed to his face which gave a bad boy vibe, he was wearing an expensive suit that fitted so perfectly to his skin. Another thing that caught Phoebe’s attention was the way he smiled. It was so contagious.

But why was the weirdo smiling?

Her lips which were already curling up in a smile froze midway. The face she'd admired only minutes ago changed into that of a horror movie monster. She felt the urge to smack off that smile from his face but she didn't as his men were standing behind her.

“Who are you? I can't recall having met you before so what is this nonsense about?” she barked but her words must have amused him as his smile broadened exposing his one-sided dimple, making her frown deepen.

He trailed a finger down her chin making her pull her face away from him, making him chuckle in an expensive way. Phoebe couldn’t help but wonder what was wrong with the handsome psychopath. What exactly did he want from her? Was he hired by Trevor?

“Leave us alone.” He ordered with his eyes boring holes into her skin.

A sigh escaped Lucas’ lips as he stood outside Ivan’s bedroom door, his hand resting on the polished doorframe. Soft blur lights illuminated the space, giving off a dreamlike vibe. Inside, Ivan lay curled up into a ball on his bed, his eyes shut rather too tightly for someone sleeping. It’d been four days now, and he still wouldn't talk to him. Phoebe had initially suggested he stay away for a while while she and Marcy talked to him but it seemed the little man had already made up his mind and remained unmoved, no matter what they said to him. Earlier that day, she’d finally given him her consent to talk to him. A painful pang hit his chest and he pulled himself into the room, taking deep breaths to pacify himself. Many times in the past, he’d thought and feared about this day, the day when Ivan would begin to ask questions. But he’d never imagined it to be done so soon. A frown marred his face as his thoughts drifted to his mother with him realizing that she was the one who had

Trevor’s nose picked up the scent of onions and seasoned stew as soon as he walked into the house. The door was left open just like always.“Hi Mom,” Trevor called out, even when he was sure she’d heard his car drive into the compound. “I’m in the kitchen,” Mrs. Maddox shot back from a distance, her voice echoing slightly.Nostalgia hit him as he dragged his feet through the familiar route to their kitchen, his heart tugging weirdly. Even though he hadn't wanted to visit her, he couldn't deny that he had missed her so much. They had been close and that was why it hurt him so much to know that his mother would rather fight for Mary even after he’d proven to her on countless occasions what kind of woman she was. When Trevor reached the kitchen, he found her standing beside the stove with a red apron tied around her waist. She looked up, gave him a tight-lipped smile, and immediately turned back to the pot. The scent of onions grew stronger, his brows jamming together. When was the la

“Trevor, It's Marcy. Listen…I don't have much time. You have to prepare yourself for the meeting. Three days from today,” Marcy’s electronic voice echoed through the room as soon as he picked up. Dropping the glass of scotch on the table, Trevor steadied the phone on his ear as he adjusted on his bed. His brows furrowed, the sharp edge of something ugly crawling into his expression. Was she being serious right now? He wondered inwardly as his face contorted more. Anger boiled within him and he shut his eyes, taking deep breaths to reduce how his chest tightened. It’d been a week since they’d decided to hire Liam to aid them in soiling Lucas’s and Phoebe’s marriage but all that while, Trevor hadn't heard anything from either her or Mrs. Cory. He’d tried their numbers to no avail and no day passed by without him thinking of a thousand things that must have gone wrong. More than a dozen times, he’d made mental notes to travel back to New York to see things for himself but he’d never

Time ticked between them and for a few minutes, Phoebe’s breath seized, her heart tightening and sending unbearable pain down her spine. Her weight suddenly felt too heavy for her legs to carry but somehow, she managed to face him, forcing a smile on her face. “Hey sweetie. You should be in bed by now,” She said, tucking a strand of her hair in place as she approached him. Ivan remained rooted in his position, his gaze fixed intently at Lucas while a frown marred his features. His eyes flicked to her, a lone tear gliding down his cheeks.Lucas sighed, running a hand through his now tousled hair as he approached the toddler but then, Ivan moved away, his hand grasping thin air instead. “Why were you shouting at my Mommy,” he asked a second time, glaring at Lucas. Tears brewed within him as his voice became unsteady, sounding both cracked and firm_protective. Her eyes met with Lucas and for a long time, neither of them said a word. Releasing a sigh, he crouched down in front of the

Phoebe squinted her eyes as she walked towards him and slowly, a smile formed on her lips as recognition hit her. “Wait…you’re the guy from the store. My fan who….” “Bumped into you and almost un_alived you,” Liam interrupted, smiling awkwardly. “Yeah, that guy.” She laughed, her eyes darting towards the car to see there was no real damage, just a scratch. But then, a small crease tainted her features. “Just like I almost did now.” “We’ll both live. It’s nothing serious. “Looks like your car loves mine so much,” he added, laughing at his own jokes as he pushed his hair away from his face. She chuckled. A minute passed between them as Phoebe took in his appearance. His hair, unlike the last time she saw him was tousled like he’d ran a hand through it countless times, giving off a causal vibe. He was also dressed in a plain white T shirt and tailored black slacks. Does he know about the picture? She wondered as she parted her lips, wanting to ask but no words came out. On sec

The door opened before his hands could reach it, revealing Stella, the maid who his mother had sent to drug Phoebe. She wore her usual navy blue uniform, her blonde hair pulled back into a tight bun. As soon as her eyes landed on him, they lit up with recognition and something close to guilt. “Mr. Lucas_”Lucas brushed past her without saying any word. He felt her eyes drill holes in his back but he kept on walking, the hallway quieter than he could remember. The echos of his step filled the hall like a voice too loud in a cave. The parlour door was open and his eyes caught his mother’s figure seated on her favorite one sitter, a book open in her lap, but she wasn’t reading it. Her blue orbs had already locked his. “Lucas,” She called, her eyes sparkling with an emotion he couldn’t explain. “Mom.”For a minute or two, none of them spoke as the sounds of maids working in the kitchen broke the silence. Lucas exhaled a breath as he walked slowly across the room, stopping by the fram
