I can’t believe that pack is yet again hounding my scouts! I had them merely monitoring the smaller pack along the southern border, more to judge if they were still going to be a threat to me and my pack now that I’m forced to take over, but no. They have to interrupt my scouts like the pests they are!
As soon as I arrive at the battlefield, I can see just how chaotic they’ve made it. Their beta has someone cornered against a large tree and, from what I can tell, he is also a beta, or perhaps an alpha?
My warriors continue into battle without me, giving me time to judge the fighting with my own eyes. I rarely bring myself into the middle of a fight, as my warriors usually disperse a crowd quickly.
This time, however, it might not be so simple. With three packs here, it is harder to tell which wolves belong to which rival pack. I’m not even sure they know who is who, either.
The smell of blood assaults my nose, but something sweet lingers in the air. I can’t quite tell what it is, but it has my heart racing. I try to ignore it at first, but then a gust of wind wafts the smell in my direction fully.
Citrus, though to be more specific, lemon? All I know is what that scent means. My mate is among these wolves, but I can’t see where she might be. From what I can see in the chaos, there aren’t many females here. You’d think that made this easier. It doesn’t.
I slowly stalk around the fighting, focusing on locating that scent above all the blood and sweat that masks almost everything else. No one is paying me any attention because of how involved they are in the fighting, but my warriors are handling things nicely, so I don’t have to worry yet. They know not to kill unless I give the order.
“Luna!”
I quickly gazed back at the pinned wolf, but whoever cried out for their luna wasn’t worried about that one, so he wasn’t an alpha. He seems to have regained the upper hand, or teeth, as it were. That answers my question of who he is. I once more study each wolf for my mate.
That’s when I catch sight of them. Only, it’s not a normal girl. They’re not even an omega! No, I have to be mistaken. Why would the Moon give me a luna as my mate? She no doubtedly already has an alpha as her mate, right? So why would I be mated to someone who already is a leader? Unless… her mate has died?
Studying the wolf before me fighting, she is mostly a brownish-grey but her head fades into almost white. Despite the cute colouration, I can tell easily enough what she is.
A luna.
My heart is pounding against my chest, and her scent is almost overpowering the smell of blood. I want to claim her already, but she hasn’t seemed to notice me at all. Even with me as close as I can get without joining in. This means she must be under the age of twenty.
Although we’re adults at eighteen, it isn’t until we reach twenty that we notice the signs of our mate being near us or not. Still, to be a luna so young is unheard of. Even though I am a little on the younger side, I am still within the right age range to be ready for the ascent.
Now that I have my mate within my sights, I know what I must do. Get rid of these foolish interlopers and claim her as mine. I can’t have some stupid mutt killing or harming my mate, even if she is an odd choice for the Moon to give me.
This means I must dirty my claws personally. Though for my mate, I’ll do whatever must be done. She may not need my protection, but she has it.
With that thought in mind, I charge at the two wolves at her heels and easily overpower them until they cower and flee from my sight. I turn to face my mate, but the look she gives me is one of disgust and hate.
I know she does not know who I am, but that still hurts.
Now that I have her up close, I can see that she is smaller than me. Though truth be told, I am way above average. She is probably normal for a luna.
What strikes me most is not her size or even the lovely fur pattern of hers - which is charming in and of itself, but those big, soulful brown eyes of hers. They’re so expressive and full of emotion.
The way she suddenly looks away from my gaze and lowers her ears, makes me realise my size is intimidating to her. I can’t help but crack a small chuckle, though whatever fear she has of me quickly vanishes as she suddenly lunges at me.
I easily avoid her teeth and she skids along the ground before turning back around to snap at my heels. Whatever plan she is trying to pull off really isn’t working for her, though. She is far too slow. Still, the challenge has been made and mate or no mate; I accept.
“Luna Kyla!”
“Don’t come closer!” Kyla shouts back at whoever it was who had called her. Kyla? So that is who she is. I had heard of the name but never had the chance to see her. The luna of Moonstone Pride pack.
I open my maw in a grin as I say, “a wise choice to make, little luna.” My tone is a little mocking, but only because this whole situation amuses me far too much. She is brave to come after me like this, though she probably assumed I had come for her life.
One of my warriors is quick to return to my side before Kyla attacks again, but I quickly stop him in silence. I don’t need any help with Kyla, but I need the other pack out of my way.
“Alpha Cedric?” He questions me without needing to question it out loud.
I shoot him a blunt look as I order, “remove the filth from my lands. We will deal with that pack another day. This one is mine.”
“Yes, alpha!”
With my warrior carrying out my order, I return my attention to my oblivious mate. She has that frightened look in her eyes again, even though her stance is that of an aggressor.
As I slowly circle her and she follows my actions cautiously, I know exactly what I must do. She would never believe me if I told her we were mates. It has never happened in any history they have taught me. An alpha gets an omega for a mate. That’s just how it always has been. It is an omega that becomes the luna.
Two leaders of a pack just never pair up. Why would she trust my word?
Instead, I’ll have a little fun with her. I would never hurt my mate in reality, but I am curious to see what skill she has. If the Moon picked her to be mine, then she must have some qualities that I will find useful. She never makes a mistake.
With each step forward, I can see the panic in her eyes, but she doesn’t back down. She knows she can’t flee or else her life is forfeit and her pack would be at my mercy.
She hasn’t even noticed the other pack has almost been completely driven away now, leaving her and what few pack members she brought here at my benevolence already.
Not that any of them can help her. My warriors have pinned them down to prevent them from interfering in our fight.
“Let’s see what you got, little luna,” I tease her, still finding my destiny highly amusing. I wonder what she will do when she finally finds out who I am?

A few weeks later...Stretching out on the enormous bed, I almost don’t want to get up. However, before I can sit up, I am suddenly attacked by two small bodies as they jump up and down, calling out my name.“Luna Kyla! Luna Kyla get up!”I can’t help but laugh as I grab the corner of the quilt and spring it up and over the two kids’ heads. Their squeals of delight echoes through my ears, causing a wide grin to grow on my face.“Who dares to awaken the bed monster?” I ask in a playfully rough growl. As the youngsters squeal and squirm under the blankets, I can’t help but feel a small sense of relief that they can still laugh. After the last battle against Vukasin, we lost so many of our pack, and as a result, many children were orphaned. Although we couldn’t take all of them in, we have taken in these two little rascals and they have settled down as well as can be expected. The others have been
I would be lying if I said I hadn’t hated every moment of taking Vukasin’s life, but I had made the decision and could not back down once I had made it. I wanted to be seen as Cedric’s equal, as a leader, and not just his mate.As I helped drag Vukasin’s corpse through the street and back to the main battle. Cedric waited for me to stand next to him before he nodded. When I was ready, the two of us let out a victory howl together. As soon as the nearest pack members saw their fallen alpha, they stopped fighting in shock. Soon enough, the cry of victory echoed throughout the area. I just hoped Vukasin didn’t have a beta or gamma that would seek revenge at the loss of their leader. When silence fell at last on the battlefield, I gazed out at the remaining packs and saw we had paid such a heavy toll on both sides. I wasn’t sure what would happen now, but the biggest hurdle was over. The only thing left now was dealing with Vukasi
I can hear Kyla and Vukasin fighting one another, but my eyes still sting from the dirt that bastard flicked into them. It takes me a while before I can get them clear enough to where I can see them again. Though it still stings, and my eyes water each time I open them.Vukasin has dragged my mate down in front of him, and I realise that if I don’t step in now, he will slaughter Kyla. My heart aches at the thought and before the worst can happen, I charge forward, forcing Vukasin to back up as I stand protectively over my mate. The two of us snarl at one another and I realise Vukasin’s hind leg is bleeding, and he isn’t putting any weight on it. Kyla must have done some damage, which I am thankful for. This should give us an edge in battle. In all honesty, I’m surprised Kyla had the resolution to fight with Vukasin. It makes me proud of her, to see how far she has come as a luna. Having the strength to get past her trauma and to fight an
I knew it would be risky to do this myself, but I couldn’t find anyone nearby that would be a better fit for this task. Going back to find Dereck or Joey would waste too much time and we couldn’t afford to wait any longer. We would miss our chance to end this quickly if I messed around trying to find and free up someone stronger.I watched Cedric chase Vukasin until he could guide him in the direction I had suggested. I knew my plan would work. It just meant I had to be careful when blocking the opposite way. I was sure I could distract him long enough for Cedric to do what he needed to do, it was just a matter of making sure he couldn't slip past me easily.Darting through the crowd of fighting werewolves, I find my way out of the chaos. Finally, I reached the spot before Cedric and Vukasin could reach it. I have a couple of things to do before they get here, but it wouldn't take me long at all.Transforming back into my human form, I grab the large
This fight has gone on for far too long, but I hadn’t expected it to be so easy. Even with the others flanking our enemy from the other side, this isn’t a straightforward battle. Vukasin has escaped my claws once again, though he hasn’t gotten far from me this time. However, I now have to deal with one of his warriors before I can continue my battle with him.I’m starting to think Vukasin is trying to tire me out by forcing me to fight as many of his warriors as he can throw at me. It is a cunning plan. To make me so tired that he can beat me easier. However, I know what he is trying to do, so I do the same. I have a warrior battle with him in return.I have to hand it to him. Vukasin is a formidable foe. However, dragging this fight out like this only makes it worse for both sides. We’ve already lost a fair number of warriors each and I can bet more lives will be lost. That might be an acceptable sacrifice to Vukasin, but not to me.
