Maya’s POV
“Your grandmother thought what?!” I gasped, baffled by what the Alpha told me.
“I said because of that photo I told you about, Grandma believes we’re in a relationship. With you being pregnant with my child,” he repeated.
We were in his car, driving to the clinic to get my arm treated, which was starting to bruise. Not because of the Alpha when he pinned me to the wall earlier, but more from when Jayden grabbed me before that. As he drove, the Alpha explained the questions his grandmother was asking me. Though the explanation did answer the point of those questions, it left me with more confusion. Particularly…
“Can’t we tell her that it was a misunderstanding?” I inquired.
“If it were that simple, we wouldn’t be in this situation to start with,” he pointed out.
We soon arrived at a clinic, where the doctor was treating my arm. As he was giving me treatment, the Alpha went to make a phone call right outside the building. Not long after he finished treating my arm and left the room, the door slammed open, and I turned to see Corina burst in.
“Okay, I want answers, and I want them now,” she hastily said, sitting right next to me. “When and how did you end up with Alpha Zeke of all people?”
“Huh? Well…” I knew she was going to ask that, but I was not entirely sure what to tell her.
It seemed Corina caught on to some part of my hesitation and sighed, “Well, I guess it may be a sudden thing between you two. If you don’t want to talk about it because you don’t remember much, I understand.” She rolled her eyes.
My sweat dropped at the claim, for I had doubts she actually understood much of my case. I then shuddered when a strange smile formed on her face.
"Let's go home now. I'm starving." Before she uttered anything, I grabbed the wallet from the counter, and dragged Corina out of the examination room.
We headed downstairs to a self payment kiosk. Logging onto my medical account, there was no due medical billing showing on the screen. As I was about to retry, a nurse came by and told us that Alpha Zeke had already covered me. In spite of confusion, I thanked her politely and walked out of the clinic with Corina.
"Wow~" Corina bumped her shoulders against me and smiled wickedly “Ever since his first mate disappeared, I haven't seen Alpha Zeke be so kind to other women.”
The Alpha’s mate disappeared? How could that happen? I knew how important it was for werewolves to be with their mates. Specifically their first one.
"There were plenty of rumors about what happened," Corina turned to me as she unlocked the car and opened the passenger door for me, “but the most famous one is how she couldn’t handle the responsibilities expected of her as the pack’s Luna. Adding on talk about him being in need of an heir, many other women practically jumped at the chance to be his new destined other. Some even went as far as to… do questionable things to get his favor or cheat their way into the position…”
The way Corina said that last part told me enough of what those ‘questionable things’ were. I supposed it was why the Alpha accused me of seducing him earlier. Even though it was only by chance from my perspective, in his, I was only doing what other women in his life were attempting to do. And that…
… Made me irritated. Yes, I understood how he felt, but to take that out on me and make baseless assumptions that I would be anything like his ‘pursuers’? I might be human, and thus weaker than any werewolf in the pack, but even I had my pride.
“Anyways, we need to make a plan,” Corina cleared her throat, regaining my attention. “If some other sexy woman comes up and wins Alpha Zeke over, it will be over for you. Just think about it. You and the Alpha, whom Jayden would never cross. If you play your cards right, not only will you be that jerk’s new boss, you can get him to break off the bond he forced on you! Win back your freedom through the Alpha. I have plenty of clothes that can help you seduce him~”
The thought of that made me flinch and blush. I could imagine the clothes she spoke of, and they must be quite revealing, to say the least.
“I-I don’t need that sort of help!” I exclaimed. “Besides, I have more important things to think about. Like finding a place to live, and… getting a steady job.”
Corina blinked, bewildered by my response. “I don’t mind if you stay at my place. Also, do you need to find a job when you have the Alpha?” Corina asked.
“I can’t keep relying on you. Nor can I rely on my relationship with him to make a living,” I reasoned. “I’d rather keep my options open than be close-minded as to think anything goes one way, like Jillian did."
Corina frowned when I pointed that out, clearly annoyed with Jillian. “You’re nothing like Jillian. I should know. I’ve seen how you interact with others during all those volunteer events.”
“And if staying with the Alpha does make me like her?” Corina tilted her head when I said that. “You said it yourself. His first mate disappeared. That doesn’t mean she’s dead. What if she went into hiding or something, and the reason why the Alpha didn’t take any other women is because he’s keeping her hidden somewhere safe? I stay with him any longer than I should, and I would be no better than Jillian.”
Corina looked down with a slight nod at my statement. “You do realize, though, that after that event back at the gala, everyone is going to think you two are a thing, right?” she pointed out.
I winced at the reminder, thinking back to the scene we made. In fact, he could do whatever he wanted and pin the blame on me. And then not only would my inheritance be at risk, but my life would also be hanging by a thread for offending an Alpha.
“I-I’m sure the Alpha will be able to explain...” I replied in a voice that couldn't even convince myself.
Maya’s POVI awoke to the alarm clock ringing with a yawn. After shutting the alarm off, I got out of bed and tidied myself up for the big day.“You’re really going to find a job?” Corina asked, cooking some omelet for breakfast. “You know, it wouldn’t hurt to try being more seductive on Alpha Zeke. Win over his heart so you don’t have to worry about living in the pack?”“Of course I am sure.” I rolled my eyes slightly at her ‘suggestion’, remembering a few of those techniques Corina tried to teach me after we got back from the clinic two nights ago. “And I doubt I would ever win him over, no matter how much makeup you put on me or what sort of… ‘love technique’ you’ll teach me.”Corina pouted at me then. “Even though it would’ve been a whole lot easier for you if you would learn these techniques?”I nervously laughed at her insistence in teaching me these things, and looked at the clock. “Oh! Would you look at the time? I gotta go.”“The omelet is almost done, though,” Corina told me
Maya’s POVI whipped my head to the source, where I paled to see Alpha Zeke standing next to me.“A-Alpha. I was just… Um…” My voice was caught in my throat, unable to speak or save myself from the trouble I was sure to be in.“So now that you’ve heard, tell me, what are your thoughts?” he asked with a dangerous smile on his face.I wasn’t sure if he was testing me or genuinely asking for my opinion, as my mouth opened itself to answer. “Well, Isabelle is beautiful, and she is a well-known influencer. Are you sure about breaking up with her? You should probably reconsider.”I wanted to slap myself at the last part, for it sounded much like I was telling him what to do. How could I- a mere human- dare order a werewolf with little to no relation to me? Much less an Alpha. To my slight relief, the Alpha scoffed at my answer. “We don’t have the relationship you're imagining. We're just in it for what we want. My wealth and fame for her body. That was the deal we made,” he said. For her b
Maya’s POVI was just confused by Alpha Zeke’s claim. But he didn't explain too much. “Tell me something, Maya. Why did you come to this pack?” He looked curiously at me, instead. “I don’t believe in coincidences. And I doubt you came here because of something as silly as ‘love’.”“What do you mean?” I swallowed hard, and replied nervously. He walked towards the desk and took out some sheets of paper and old photos from the drawer, making my eyes dilate slightly with their contents. “Since our first meeting, I have ordered an investigation on your identity. You’re not just any human, you were an adopted human child. Whose parents are werewolves of this very Red Night Pack.”It felt like a small eternity when he unmasked me. I was left speechless at that, for it was true. My biological parents died of an overdose when I was six. Once Child Protective Services stepped in, I was sent to a foster home. That’s where I met Chris and Eliza for the first time. I knew little of their histor
Maya’s POVIt would be an understatement to say that I was exhausted from today’s events. After I reluctantly signed the contract, I was allowed to return home and relax for a bit. It was 7pm when I arrived, Corina turned out to be absent from her house, most likely due to overtime. Since I didn’t have anything else to do, I decided to pack up my stuff for the time being. I stopped when I found a particular piece of clothing in the wardrobe. That being a lingerie, sort of a seduction tool Corina spoke of. ‘I should’ve just tossed this away by now,’ I thought, finding no reason to keep this skimpy clothing. Alpha Zeke ‘hired’ me to be his girlfriend, and I doubted a werewolf like him would need me to wear anything like this for him to enjoy his ways with me. Although…‘In case if he’s ever in a bad mood, this could help me somewhat,’ I decided, putting the lingerie in my bag with everything else.“Hey, Maya! I’m home!” came Corina’s bubbly voice. I hastily closed my luggage and rushe
Maya’s POVIt took about another half hour of driving, but we finally made it to a building near the Moon Valley. It was more of a secluded mansion, which stood silently with its tall, white columns framing the porch. A marble fountain at the entrance with its surrounding greenery highlighted the huge archways over the doors. Once we headed inside, though, I felt as if I was instantly transported to France. From the roof painting overhead to the vintage knick-knacks that dotted the shelves. Everything was so new to me. More than that, though…“Welcome home, Alpha.” Lines of servants on either side of the carpet went in. I was just flabbergasted, not sure how to act in such an environment. Not even back in the human world had I ever stepped foot in a place like this. “We have a guest staying with us for a while. This is Maya, treat her like you would each other,” Zeke ordered.“Yes, Alpha,” they answered in unison.“Then, Miss Maya, right this way,” a maid approached me as I spun slo
I turned to the source and saw Jayden also in the training grounds, sparring with another werewolf. He abandoned the spar, approaching me with a questionable expression. “What the hell are you doing here?!” he questioned.“Alpha wants me here,” I frowned, not feeling like talking to him any more.“Don’t tell me you actually slept with the Alpha.” He said through gritted teeth, his face clouded, “Since when were you such a slut? Were you faking that whole ‘good girl’ act this whole time?”I was instantly offended by the questions. Especially as I did not want to hear any of those from him of all people. Not when he pretended to be a good man to me, not when he pretended to genuinely help me only to turn out to be using me, and certainly not when he cheated on me. “What I do with the Alpha is not your business,” I retorted, “How about you go back to your sparring match? Or better yet, go back to your own slut.”Jayden narrowed his eyes with a glare at my retort, a growl escaping his l
Zeke’s POVWhen I agreed to help this human solve her problem, it was to right a wrong that was committed to her by one of my people. If I let this crime slide, who knew what more Jayden would do to abuse his authority. Worse, if rumors had spread, I would have either seen as a weak, irresponsible Alpha to other packs. Those I especially couldn’t have.“Hey, Maya. Maya!” I called, kneeling by her side, with several other of my men.“Hey, is she okay?!”“Idiot, of course not! You know how painful a rejection is to us werewolves. For a human who is weaker than us, it has to be even worse!”I grew more worried when I heard one of my men say that. Though we were in a relationship, it was nothing more than a contracted relationship, not one of pure, fond feelings towards one another. And yet… as I looked down at her fainted figure, taking in her scent in full, something stirred in me. There was a strange scent on her. It was only after I helped her get rid of Jayden’s mark that I realized
Zeke’s POVI was sitting in my room, looking over some financial reports from Nocturne Co., as well as some projects and business proposals being made to other packs. Normally, I would be in my office doing this work, but feel uneasy leaving this room. Leaving Maya here alone.A few days passed since she became free of Jayden’s mark, suffering the aftermath of the rejection in the process. Since then, she had been asleep in my bed. Stuck in a coma, as Maryanne said she would be.Maryanne had been doing her job to check on her daily, giving her IV fluids as needed, and even helping her injuries heal, but there had been no sign of her waking at all. If it weren’t for the heart rate monitor she’s been strapped to, I would’ve thought she was… dead. The thought frightened me a bit, as I glanced at her sleeping form again. ‘This is all because of that damn Delta,’ I thought in realization, feeling my wolf raging just thinking about that guy. If it turned out that Maya would never wake or d
