"Michelle!"

I nearly knocked over the table as I shot up to my feet, rushing forward to embrace the one person I've been waiting to see all morning.

"Well, this is a warm welcome," she murmured into my neck, reciprocating the hug.

After a moment, I pulled back to glare at her and she blinked.

"What did I do?"

"What took you so long?"

She smiled sheepishly, raising a bag in the air. "I went clothes shopping, I still don't know what I'm gonna wear for the wedding."

I rolled my eyes just as my dad spoke from behind, his tone was chastising,

"Michelle, how many times have I told you to knock before you enter?"

She walked around me so she could face him properly, "I knocked, Mr. Monroe. No one answered so I let myself in."

"You knocked?"

"Yes." She nodded.

Dad blinked, glancing at Chandler and Casey. "Did you hear a knock?" Both of them shook their heads, and he frowned, "Even if you did knock, that was a terrible way to let yourself in. You just busted in here."

"I thought it was a co

    |GIOVANNI'S POV|The car ride back from the hall was a blur of quick turns and muffled chatter through the Bluetooth speaker. I leaned back against the leather seat, the phone pressed to my ear, and my fingers tightened into a fist. "No, I want white lilies, not roses," I said into the phone, my voice calm but leaning no room for argument. "And make sure the guest list is double checked. No mistakes. I don't want anyone slipping in who wasn't invited."The event planner on the other end stammered a hurried agreement, and I exhaled slowly, glancing out the window as the city blurred by. My mind raced through a checklist that never seemed to end,The venue security, table arrangements, the menu for the after-party, even the stupid little favors for the guest. Everything had to be perfect. "The catering?" I asked sharply when the planner hesitated. "All confirmed, sir," she rushed to assure me. "The seafood you requested, the Italian stations, and the private wine selections. They're

It was finally here. The day I was earnestly praying not to come, certainly not now. I was standing in front of the grand vanity, the golden lights from the bulb above illuminating my form. The room smelled faintly of roses and vanilla, and the quiet hum of classical music drifted in the background. I silently stared at my reflection. The woman in front of the mirror didn't feel like me, the makeup artist had spent hours perfecting my face. My skin was flawless, her light grey eyes accentuated with subtle shimmer and bold cat-eye flick that made them seem sharper. My lips were a muted rose color, and my hair had been curled into soft waves, pinned delicately beneath the lace trimmed veil that spilled down my back like a waterfall. And the dress. Another gasp slipped out of my mouth as I gazed at the beauty again. The gown hugged me in all the right places. It was a timeless piece of ivory silk and intricate designs that cinched at my waist and flowed to the ground like a dream.

When his lips parted to break the silence, I sucked in a deep breath. "You're beautiful." I blinked, startled by the unexpected compliment. "I bet you say that to every unsuspecting bride."He smirked, stepping closer with his hands tucked casually into his pockets. "No," he said, his gaze dropping briefly to my lips before returning to my eyes. "I only say that to my own bride. The woman I'm looking at right now."I couldn't help the way my lips twitched, "what are you doing here?" I quipped, tilting my head. "You know it's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding, and especially in my wedding dress.""I just wanted to make sure you weren't having any second thoughts," his fingers found her exposed arm, trailing gently. "You're going to become the Mafia Boss's wife after all."Well...if he was going to play this game. "Why? Is there anything I should be wary of?"He chuckled, the sound like deep rushing wine. "Maybe," his fingers stopped at my pulsing neck. "How good are you w

The hall that was rented out for the after party was even more sparkling. I couldn't resist gawking at the soft golden lights that sparkled from the crystal chandeliers that towered over us. The sound of laughter mingled with the soft clink of glasses, and a live band playing something sultry in the corner made me feel like I was in a scene from a movie.I'd changed into something to match the aesthetics, my wedding dress was replaced with something lighter and easier to move around in. It was an ivory silk dress that stopped an inch above my knee with a dramatic open back and gold accents that shimmered when I moved. It was luxury without trying too hard, and it hugged me like it had been made for me. Which, apparently, it had. "Come on," Giovanni reappeared beside me with a glass of champagne, his hand resting against her back. "There's someone I want you to meet."They wove through the small clusters of guests, nodding politely, until they reached a woman standing near the bar.

Luciano stepped forward, and placed his hands on her shoulders as he leaned to kiss me on the cheek."A hearty congratulations, figlia." His tone was smooth, almost affectionate."Thank you," I replied politely. He was the only one who seemed genuinely pleased at our union. Luciano's eyes sparkled with something unreadable. "Now, if you'll excuse me. I hear there's a 1965 in the cellar calling my name."He winked and turned, but before he could take a full step away, José was already behind him, catching his elbow with a grip. "I don't think that's a good idea, Dad," José muttered but his father was barely listening, already sauntering into the crowd. "Oh, come on. Dad, wait!"Cristina rolled her eyes at their antics, standing straight when I looked at her. "Excuse me," she said in a clipped voice, gliding away before any one of us could respond. I exhaled slowly, relieved that the Orlando family were leaving one by one. I wasn't sure I could bear their scrutiny any longer. When I

"I'm sorry, but we couldn't save her."The breath that left my lips was icy, I could tell because my entire body had gone cold at that moment. I blinked once, and again, and again, but the doctors were still standing in front of me, their faces filled with remorse. "Is she...Is she dead?" My father asked, his voice trembling as he spoke. "Yes, sir. We're sorry." One of the doctors began to ramble a bunch of pitiful words, from the corners of my eyes, I could see the nurses shaking their heads in sadness. But I wasn't listening, not with the way my heart was pounding.I blindly reached for the wall, anything that could help me stay grounded on my feet but it was useless. Dark spots were beginning to cloud my vision and I had the strong sense of throwing up. I hated hospitals. Dahlia agreed with me on that one, ever since we were little, we dreaded the hospital like the flu. She didn't like doctors either, always claiming that they were fake, and that was why even with all her smar

It rained on her burial, and it was fitting. At least, the heavens were mindful enough to mourn with them. I wasn't too happy with the arrangements, Dad had made it quiet. He made sure that nobody was aware of it. Just me, Michelle who was my childhood friend, and a couple of people from the club. The priest who'd officiated the ceremony looked sketchy, and I later found out that it was Casey who recommended him. Dahlia didn't deserve this. She didn't deserve a half-assed burial ceremony with only five people in attendance, she did too much good to be sent off like that. "I can't believe she's gone," Chandler mentioned, his dark eyes glassy. Casey shook her head, "She promised me a manicure this weekend, I should've done it for her instead." I didn't say anything until it was over, and even then I just retired to my room and stayed there throughout the rest of the day. The week dragged by, and each day was a reminder that she was truly gone and never returning. Sometimes, I woul

Dahlia always told me about him, how their dates went, the conversations they had, and what she thought of him. I never liked to listen to them but now I was more than grateful that I did. The smile was still on my face, I'd managed to mirror the crookedness that always came to Dahlia's lips whenever she grinned. "You look dashing as well," I said, keeping my tone as light as I could, "I almost tripped over running down to see you."His reaction was as she described. He threw his head back, and a loud laughter erupted from his mouth, and even his body trembled as a result. "Oh, Cariño," He wrapped a hand around my waist, and I tried not to stiffen, "This week has been dreadful without you." He turned to the large men behind him, "Go bring them in." I watched with confusion at first, then realization as people began walking in with large items. I spotted a new TV screen among several other expensive gifts he brought out."Mr. Orlando! You didn't have to go through the trouble," Da

The sound of our forks and knives scraping against the fine china was the only sound that echoed in the dining room, along with Chandler's loud and annoying chewing. "Fuck it, Chandler!" Casey hissed, slamming her fork against the table, and making all of us jolt in shock, "Can't you chew quietly? I can't fucking eat with all of that disgusting noise."Chandler glared at her, his dark eyes narrowing, "What the hell are you talking about? You're the only one who's hearing me chew."Both of them directed their gaze at Dad and me, I grimaced tightly and Dad cleared his throat. That made Chandler shift on his chair, "You see," Casey snapped at him, "Eat like a fucking human-""Stop cursing at the table, Cas," Dad interrupted, giving her a warning glare, "let Chandler eat how he feels comfortable." Although Chandler gave him a weak smile, the sound of his chewing drastically reduced, and I caught the sheepish smirk on Casey's face. The girl just knew how to get what she wanted. But that

I returned to the main hall, surprised to find Giovanni and Valerie deep in a conversation and judging from her wide eyes, she seemed to be really invested in what he was saying. For some reason, that didn't settle well with me. I settled beside him, smiling wryly as he threw his hand over my shoulders. "Now you're here!" Valerie chipped excitedly, and I forced a grin on my face. "Your fiancé almost pulled out a search team for you." I looked at Giovanni only to find him staring deeply at me, an unreadable expression on his face. "Are you okay?" He asked, and I nodded."I'm good." He looked around, and frowned. "Where is Enzo?""Did you guys miss me already?" Enzo strolled back in, flashing a charming grin as he settled beside Valerie."You're back-" she barely finished her sentence when he pulled her in for a quick kiss on her lips. She giggled, and swatted his chest. "Enzo!""What? I missed only you." Enzo responded, causing her to laugh even more as she melted into his side.

The bathroom was pristine, almost annoyingly so. If I was in a good mood, I probably would've taken the time and appreciation to look through the marble countertops, and the soft gold lightning that gave the place a 90's feel. The only thing I was thankful for however was the delicate smell of roses lingering in the air. It helped in calming my racing heart. I walked toward the sink, admiring the gold-plated faucet, and the fresh towels that smelled like jasmine nearly folded on a small rack beside the sink. How much would all of this cost? The thought that they were going to have a full course meal soon sent a chill down my spine.I had an inkling that the price alone would put me in debt for the rest of my life. I gripped the edge of the counter, trying to steady my breathing. My reflection in the mirror didn't help. My skin was almost too pale, despite the makeup I'd put on. And my eyes were wide and strained.I sucked in another sharp breath, counting down to ten in my head a
