“Joan, stop crying.” I finally found the courage to tell Joan everything, and she has refused to stop crying. “You can’t die. I don’t want you to die.” Joan cried. I smiled at her. I don’t want to die either, but I have accepted my fate. There’s nothing I can do to change it. There’s nothing that I could have done differently to stop the cancer from developing in my brain. It just so happened that I am very unlucky. “Joan, crying isn’t going to change anything. You have been crying for hours. At this rate, you will get sick too, and I can’t have that.” She sniffled. “Why don’t you want to get treated? Why have you refused to listen to me? Three months is just too short. I can’t even be with you because of the fucking finals.” She cried. She had wanted to return, but I told her it was okay for her to finish her studies and take her time. She can still make it in time to see me off. “Babe, I am okay. I promise. Plus, Matt is always with me.” Matt has been an angel. So far, he has helped me look for a temporary apartment, and I plan to move out as soon as Nathan signs the divorce papers. He can’t refuse to sign because in the papers I sent, I made sure it was written that I have the five billion that was stated in our marriage contract. “Chelsea.” I gasped when I heard my name. It wasn’t just hearing my name being called that shocked me, but the one who called my name. “Joan, I will call you back. My soon-to-be ex-husband is home.” I told Joan, who pouted but nodded. I ended the call and got out of my bed. I didn’t expect him to come home, and I certainly didn’t expect him to yell my name the way he just did. Since we got married, this is the first time he has even as much as called my name out loud. “Chelsea! I know you are home. I saw your car outside.” I rolled my eyes and fixed my hair. Why is he so angry? Not like I cared. “What do you want?” I let out when I opened my door and saw him. He turned angry eyes at me, and I took a step back. Whatever made him so angry had to be bad. My eyes went to his hand, and I realized why he was mad. He got the divorce papers. But that’s not enough reason for him to be mad. Especially since he will get enough money from it. Not like he needed the money anyway. In the one year and three months that we have been married, he has been promoted to the position of chief executive officer, and I heard a rumour that the current chairman will step down and he will take over. He has so much money. Okay, I won’t lie, more than half of the five billion I have to pay him is the allowances he has given me since we got married. It’s not like I asked for it. I never ask for anything. He buys me luxury items and makes sure my account is always loaded. Financially, I benefited a lot from our short marriage, and I would have gotten more if I had waited for the two years. It’s not just that; I don’t even have the chance to wait for that. I would be long dead and buried in nine months. “What’s the meaning of this?” Nathan asked, waving the papers in my face. “Don’t ruin it. You have to sign.” I told him, and he growled in anger. “I ask you again, what is the meaning of this, Chelsea? Didn’t I make myself clear when we got married?” I shook my head. “Yes, you did, and I read the contract that we signed. I take it that you haven’t read the divorce papers because if you had read them, you would have known that I agreed to fulfil the terms of the contract termination before the stipulated time. Five billion.” I reminded him in case he had forgotten. “I don’t want your money! In case you forgot a tiny part that says that I am the only one who can file for a divorce, I would like to remind you.” I couldn’t believe him. “Nathan, I have the five billion that you asked for. You have to sign the divorce papers. You have no reason not to sign!” I tried not to get all worked up, but the way he was behaving made me fear that he might not sign the papers, which could make the whole process longer. I was banking on his signing without any thought. If he doesn’t sign it, I will either be stuck as his wife or sue him, which would take longer. I don’t want to do that. I want to be out of this house in the next two weeks. “I am not going to sign the divorce papers, Chelsea. If you think you can leave when you want just because you somehow managed to get your hands on five billion, you must think again.” No! This can’t be happening. “No, you have to sign it! I have to divorce you soon. You need to sign.” I couldn’t stop myself from panicking. If he doesn’t sign, it would put a stop to a lot of my plans. I don’t want to die as Chelsea Montague. No. I want to die as myself. The real me. “Why are you so desperate for me to sign? Perhaps you have other plans that will be ruined if you don’t sign?” I hated his smirk so much. I hated how he had the upper hand. “Whatever I have planned is none of your business. Just let me go! It’s not as if our marriage is real! I just want to be free from this hellhole!” I yelled at him. “I am not going to give you what you want, Chelsea. I am not going to let you leave me just because you found someone else.” I blinked in shock at his words. What? He thought I had found someone else? Was he out of his mind? Is he trying to say that I have been having an affair? He couldn’t have been more wrong. I don’t even want to correct him. It’s as if he would suddenly feel sympathetic when he finds out why I really wanted the divorce.Chelsea“Are you okay? Do you need anything? Do you need me to do anything for you? Just say the words, and I will do it.”He said those words and reached for my hand again.I gathered all my strength and yanked his hand away.“I want you to leave me alone!”I don’t know how loud I said those words, but I knew it was loud enough for him to hear, and I saw the way his expression changed.Sadness.That’s what I saw in his eyes, but I didn’t care. Why should I care when the only reason he was suddenly showing me a soft and attentive side of himself was that he knew I was dying?Deep down, he was probably praying for me to die sooner so that he could be free.He did tell me on our wedding day that he never wanted to be married. No one would expect a widower to get remarried as soon as his wife dies, so as long as he plays his game right, everyone will feel bad for him.He was only putting on a good show now so that when I end up dying, everyone will praise him for how he stood by my side
Chelsea“How can he just steal my phone and disappear?”I let out for an uncountable amount of time since I realized my phone didn’t just disappear from the house. My husband stole my phone, and it has been hours since he left.I thought of going out to get a new phone, but I couldn’t leave because I felt very weak, not to mention I was in so much pain.I took some painkillers, slept, and woke up hoping that he would be back with my phone when I woke up.I didn’t panic because I had nothing to hide on my phone. If he stole my phone thinking he would find evidence to back up his stupid claims, then he was in for a rude awakening. The only shocking thing he would find was that I used his birthday as my passcode, and I don’t even want to talk about why I did it.It has been like that for over a year now, and it never crossed my mind to change it, and he probably won’t guess it.I checked the time again and cursed at him.I needed my phone to talk to my lawyer regarding the new papers tha
Nathan“My wife isn’t sick; she is just pregnant.”The words came out of my mouth, and I couldn’t help but pray that it was true.I didn’t even mind her being pregnant anymore. Anything over whatever the doctor just told me.“No, she isn’t pregnant, Mr. Montague. I know because we tested for pregnancy during her first check, even though she told us she couldn’t possibly be pregnant. I have her whole file with me. She isn’t having a baby; she is dying. I am sorry for being the bearer of bad news.”My vision blurred the longer the doctor spoke. Each word he said hit me straight in the gut, and I wanted to make it stop.“No, please.”I begged as if my begging would take away what he just said.“The reason I wanted you to come here is that the kind of cancer your wife has progresses very rapidly, and your wife is refusing to get treatment.”As if the words he just told me weren't enough, he had to go and add more.“What?”I asked even though I heard what he said.“If she doesn’t get treat
Nathan"Just let me go, please."I took another shot as the words Chelsea had said to me replayed in my head for the umpteenth time. The fact that she was pleading for me to let her go.The fact that she lied to my face about everything. She denied the affair. She denied the pregnancy, but I have picture proof of everything. If I didn't, I would have believed her lies.I hated how her lies got to me. I hated how hearing her plead for me to let her go made me feel. How did I end up like this? I should be indifferent to her. I shouldn't care whether she leaves me or not.The truth is that I care. I have always cared.I cared, and that's why I ended up in a contract marriage with her.It wasn't that the groom was changed, but that I stepped up when I found out her family had changed the bride.I didn't want her to marry that bastard who would treat her terribly. I thought marrying her instead of letting that jerk marry was the best way to help her out of her situation.I thought I knew h
Chelsea“Wait, do you think I found someone else?”I asked him. It made absolutely no sense that he would think that. Our marriage might not have had any intimacy, but I would never get with anyone else while married.I don’t know why he would think so little of me.“I don’t think, Chelsea. I know what you have been up to, and I know why you suddenly want to divorce me. I won’t let that happen. You can’t leave if I don’t sign the papers, and I won’t sign.”He said, and right in front of me, he ripped up the papers even though I screamed at him not to do it.“Why would you do that? I have to go back and get a new copy! How could you do that?”I cried. I hated that his action made me cry.“Go tell that man that he can’t have you! I won’t let that happen. You are my wife, and you shall remain my wife for as long as I deem it fit.”The crazy man told me.“I am not seeing anyone. You don’t know the reason I want a divorce, and I refuse to tell you! I just want out of this sham marriage! Yo
