A risky attempt

>>Hazel

I looked at Valek in bewilderment as he stood up again and looked down at me.

“You want me to become a mother for your son?” He nodded and I scoffed, “You want me to marry you?” I looked at him in disgust

He smirked, “What a ridiculous idea you got from my words. I would never marry you.” He narrowed his eyes, “Not ‘someone’ like you.”Although I would never want that kind of thing either, his words offended me greatly.

“I don’t like you, not one bit,” I replied.

“Likewise, as if I would find a ‘petty thief' any attractive.” We both glared at each other for a while but Valek was very impatient, “You have five seconds to decide.” He said, “If not,” He looked at the bulky man behind me, “Kill her.”

My eyes grew wide and my heart started to beat like crazy when the bulky black man stepped closer to me.

“One,” Valek started counting without any delay, “Two,” From the corner of my eyes I saw the bulky man take out his gun, “Three,” He placed the gun at the back of my head, “Four.” Even though I have a decent amount of hair I felt the cold metal next to my skull, “Fi-”

“Okay!!” I yelled, “Fine.” I looked down with my eyes wide with fear. I felt the sweat go done the back of my neck, “I’ll do it.” I bit my lower lip in frustration, “You just need me to act like a nanny to him right?”

“A mother.” Valek corrected me and I looked at him with so much anger in my eyes.

“What difference does it make?” I didn’t raise my voice but I was very annoyed.

“A lot.” He looked at me coldly, “A nanny can never be compared to a mother.” He looked at his men and two of them came and stood next to me on either side, then each of them held my arm and swept me off the concrete floor which made me stand on both feet between them.

I internally sighed as I closed my eyes for a few seconds.

“Fine.” I opened my eyes and looked at him, “I agree, what now?”

“You’ll be going to the main house with me.” He turned and started leaving, “Put her in the car.” He ordered his men and they dragged me along with them even though I had put up no resistance.

I stared out the window as the car was making its way along the road next to the forest.

Makes sense, I nodded to myself. I was thinking about why a big shot like him would be in a small town, turns out he was only there since one of his warehouses is there along with one of his vacation houses.

I glanced at him while he was reading something on his iPad.

He brought his son with him while he was on official business? I looked at him suspiciously. Why bring a child along when you’re working? Or does he plan to teach him his ways? But Emilio is too young for that- Unless. A sudden thought crossed my mind.

Unless Valek doesn’t care about that.

I sneered at him internally. What a jerk.

“What is it?” Valek spoke suddenly.

I flinched at his words but regained composure before he raised his head and looked at me.

“Where are we going?” I asked.

“To the capital”

“No shit,” I said that out loud even though it was only meant to stay in my mind. He raised his brows at me, “Well,” I shrugged, “I mean I should have guessed that.” I really should have, people like him prefer bigger cities to live in.

He didn’t answer and turned his head towards the screen again.

“How long do you plan to make me stay?” I asked as I stared out the window again.

“As long as I want.” He replied and something about his answer just felt very odd. I looked at him with a confused look.

“What’s that supposed to mean? Give me a number.”

He raised his gaze from the screen but didn’t look at me, “Five years?” He slightly tilted his head as he himself wasn’t sure, “Six?” He looked at me, “Maybe more.” He looked me straight in the eyes and I saw no humor in them. He was dead serious.

The hell.

What does he think I am? His personal puppet?

Shit!

I can’t let that happen.

I have my own work to do!

I looked away and began to wrack my brain.

What?

What do I do?

I bit my lower lip and looked out.

The forest was well in the view even though it had a small steep leading down but that was perfect.

It was wonderful!

I looked at the driver who was quietly doing his job and then glanced at Valek who was back at reading whatever he was reading.

I gulped and moved my gaze around the car to look for something I could use while I sat still in my place.

There was nothing. The car was clean and tidy.

Shit.

What now?

Aggravated, I looked down at the floor, and just as I did, it immediately clicked.

My shoes!

I was wearing heavy sneakers.

As I ogled them I knew the pair was going to waste but it was my only weapon at the moment. I mentally prepared myself since I literally had no other choice.

I took a deep breath, bent down, and took both of them off.

Valek noticed me but didn’t do or say anything.

Once my sneakers were off I placed them on my lap and sat up straight again, then turned my head towards Valek who was already looking at me.

“What?” I glared at him, “My feet don’t smell.” I told him and he rolled his eyes and looked back at the screen.

A few seconds passed and everything was calm.

I gulped.

Now’s my chance.

I grabbed both the sneakers from the back with each hand, with one I moved forward and attacked the driver, with the other I attacked Valek.

I know, it wasn’t going to do any damage to them but that wasn’t my purpose either.

My sudden attack caused major disruption and the driver lost the balance of the car. The car moved a bit off the road so he immediately stopped it.

On the other hand, the other sneaker with which I attempted to attack Valek threw off his iPad and left him a bit startled too. Unfortunately, I couldn’t hit him since he was sitting at the other edge while the driver was in front of me, but who cares, I got what I needed.

The car had stopped and it was time to get off.

I immediately opened the door of the car and was about to get out when Valek grabbed my hair from behind and pulled me back, “Where do you think you’re going?”

He glared at me with icy cold eyes and I noticed the cars behind us stop as well.

I knew I had no time since the two cars behind us had his men in them.

It was now or never.

I looked at him while I was quarter outside the car, my heart was beating like crazy due to the situation I was in and it was getting faster because of what I was about to do.

“Valek Vincenzo,” I whispered his name and moved forward to whisper the rest next to his ear, “I am not your puppet.” With that I bit his ear lobe strongly and pulled out a tiny chunk with great force.

He hissed in pain as his eyes went wide.

The grip he had on my hair loosened and I took advantage of that and escaped.

Barefooted, I started running on the road at full speed.

“After her!!” I heard a strong yell and glanced back.

Valek’s men were already running after me.

Boy, talk about a speedy bunch, they all reacted so fast it felt like I was a villain in a movie and they were the good guys who always reacted on time.

My gaze fell further behind.

Behind them, Valek stood there next to his car, blood trickling down the side of his neck while he had a terrifying expression on his face.

I turned my head straight to look ahead as fear and anxiety began to creep up on me, that’s when I saw an entrance to the forest and jumped toward it without wasting any time but right before that I heard Valek speak again.

“Hazel Bae,” He said, “You made a very bad choice.”
