"You take me for a fool?” He yelled, gripping my arms tightly, his fingers making sure to leave marks. “I would never lie about something of utmost importance, Diego”, I tried to convince him while earnestly trying to save myself from his strong grip. “No one dares to look me in the face and lie.” He said while gripping my arms more strongly than ever. “Yet, you stand here, lying to my face. You want to use me against my father as your revenge, isn't that right Adriana?” With that, he let go of my arms, shoving me aside angrily—whilst I hit my head against a door frame. _______________ A strong-willed yet vulnerable young lady from a mafia family finds herself stuck in a marriage with a rival heir arranged by both families as a means to stop bloodshed among them. “WHAT?” I screamed. I couldn't understand why my father would arrange such a thing without my approval first. “I will never marry him, Dad!”. I said, filled with anger and hoping for him to change his mind. “I know that you despise that family and mafia as a whole, but I am doing this for your own good”, my dad replied. I didn't like his tone; he sounded genuinely concerned about me which was rare coming from him. “I raised you as a single dad, but now that you have grown, I need to be reassured that you are safe and in good hands. “Good hands?”. That word felt wrong to me. They are a mafia family and our worst rivals. How could I ever feel safe in their so-called hands? My tone sounded sarcastic but I didn't care. I didn't want to reason with my dad; it felt futile. “I am doing this to stop bloodshed among us and keep you safe” he continued, trying to convince me. These explanations weakened me the more. “I have arranged the marriage and you will get married to him. It is final”. Before I could say anything, he finalized his words; his tone stern and authoritative. That tone was more like him. I stormed out of his office, still furious, unable to utter a word. All I could think about was a way to change my dad's mind. Nothing would ever make me marry into the Castillo family. As soon as I entered my bedroom, I picked up my phone and dialed Juan's number. He was the only person I could think of who might help change my father's mind. “Hey, Juan, how quickly can you get back to Mexico?”.I asked him, skipping our usual conversation and pleasantries. “Is everything alright?”I could feel his sudden worry, so I didn't want to add to it. “Just please get here before 8 a.m. tomorrow” was all I managed to say. I couldn't explain anything over the phone. His assurance after that meant everything to me but a small part of me still felt uneasy and uncertain about tomorrow. I lay down on my bed, trying to figure out a way out of my situation when memories began flooding back. I still remember that day vividly. I was just eleven years old, barely knowing much about how life or death was. My mum had been in the hospital for a week and my dad didn't want to tell me what was wrong with her. My driver was supposed to take me to see her after school, but I didn't make it in time. Diego had locked me inside my classroom when the school session ended. By the time a teacher found me and I reached the hospital, my mum had already died. “She waited a long time for you, dear, but she couldn't wait anymore.” That was all I could hear my dad say. I regretted not telling her goodbye or hugging her one last time, and it was all Diego's fault. Deep down inside, I wished I had never known Diego since childhood. I could never forget that painful memory, and I could never forgive him either. And now, I was being forced to marry him? I could never let that happen. “Shoot!” I exclaimed, as I got an urgent call and remembered my schedule. Diego's POV “What do you mean he escaped?”I glared at Rodrigo. “That fool knew we were coming and escaped the moment we got there. We couldn't do anything!.”Rodrigo said. I want him caught and brought to me by tomorrow noon. Do you hear me?” I glanced at Rodrigo and he nodded. “Diego, please calm down. They at least tried to catch him,” my best buddy Luis said, patting my shoulder. I glanced at him. “They still did a poor job by not catching him. I trained them very well, yet they haven't managed to capture a single guy in three days.” I was disappointed in them and I wanted it to be evident. “Diego, I have an important message from your father,” Luis said seriously while holding out his phone. I signaled for Rodrigo and the rest of my men to leave my office and they complied. Luis stepped closer to me and read the message on his phone. He then pulled out an envelope from his pocket and handed it to me, explaining that someone had delivered it. “WHAT?” I roared, standing up from my chair. My bodyguards standing near the entrance shook and I liked it. “Calm down, please,” Luis urged, but I was too angry to listen to him. “Why would my father do such a thing without my consent first?” I demanded, trying to get an understanding but failing. “Tell the driver to get the car ready now” I instructed Luis. He quickly went to follow my order. Without hesitation, I left my office and headed for the car. As I passed my men in the lobby, they all stared at me. “Gather as many men as possible. You must bring that man to me tomorrow, no matter what it takes.” I commanded, pointing at Rodrigo. “Yes, boss,” he replied, and I was satisfied. I left the building immediately, forgetting the envelope in my office. ||| “Mr. Diego, your father wants to see you in his office now,” one of the servants said immediately I entered the living room. “Wait here for me; I'll be back,” I told Luis before storming off. “What the hell dad!” I roared as I barged into his office. “I am sure you have heard the information clearly. You need to be ready for tomorrow.” He spoke casually but his words only made me angrier. “Is that all you have to say? Why did you arrange such a thing without my consent?” I was torn between anger and confusion. No matter what, I wasn't going to leave without a valid reason or answer. “You need to see this as a peace treaty to stop bloodshed among us. Besides, you are old enough to get married.” That was all he could say. I felt so enraged at the thought of marrying the daughter of my rival. “Couldn't you choose anyone other than the daughter of our rival?”I needed a more valid explanation. “Son, you will marry her tomorrow, if not for anything else, then for my sake.” With that, he ended our conversation and left his office. I am Diego Castillo, the most feared person in all mafia syndicates and here I am, being forced into something I didn't bargain for. I could never agree to this. “Where are you going, Diego?” Luis asked, concern evident in his voice as I exited the office and headed for the living room door. “You will not follow me,” I commanded, casting a quick glance at him. With that, I left for my car, wanting to drive alone. I sped beyond the driving limit, heading to an unknown destination. I didn't care.Diego's POV Following the location on my phone, I sped along the highway, heading there. My father's threats about Adriana and the pain of losing another of her blood stirred anger in me. I couldn't let Adriana feel pain or lose someone so dear to her. Not again.I had already scarred her by killing her online family, her father. I couldn't scar her for life again. I nedio free my family from danger once and for all. Finally. There was no space for fear. My son was the only thing on my mind . He was the only purpose I was going.I would get him back. Safe and sound. He won't be harmed. Finally, I reached the location, stopping my car a bit away from the place. I didn't want them to noti my arrival and flee. I had to catch them this time. The area was deserted and polluted. Of course they would come to an area like this to hide. People barely came around here. I immediately opened the glove compartment of my car and took out the Sig Saucer I had kept there. It was for purposes like
Diego's POV I rushed to my car and immediately started the engine. I zoomed off, speeding beyond the limits. I would do anything to bring my son back today.I reached Ignacio's office and entered inside. “Ignacio, I need you, now!” I said, my voice firm.Ignacio shot up from his chair, his expression bold. “Yes, boss. What do you need me to do?”“My father called. They took my son. They are with him right now.Ignacio froze. “They have your son? How did they manage to take him?”“Don't ask,” I said.“I'm sorry, boss. But I have been scanning the area for their identity and nothing came out. I don't know how they managed to go near you without been noticed by the cameras I installed.”“That doesn't matter.” I took out my phone from my pocket and slammed it on the desk. “He called me with an unknown number. It's hidden, so I want you to trace the call.”“But boss, I can't trace the call. It's only if he calls again, then I will be able to trace it,” he said. I sighed. “He will call ag
Diego's POV Adriana's panic was growing, desperate. I could see how terrified and tense she was from her face. She handed Jimena back to Camilia and rushed to Juan, panicking.“Juan, have you seen Dante? Have you seen my son?” She asked, her voice loud and desperate.Juan held her, trying to calm her down. She resisted his grasp on her, frantically running around, looking at every corners of the compound. I couldn't bear to see her like that. She then approached me. “Diego, you were supposed to be watching them!” she cried, her voice cracking. “How did he leave from here without you noticing?” The accusation was fair. I had left them on their own to answer a useless call.I had failed to protect my children, even for a moment, I couldn't protect them. I thought it wouldn't be bad to leave their side for a moment. I was wrong. My mind raced, trying to retrace Dante's last movements, but I couldn't.“Adriana, calm down,” I said, though my own pulse was hammering against my ribs. “He pr
Adriana's POV Later that night after dinner, I sat up on the bed, waiting for Diego to freshen up and enter the bedroom. When he was finished, he came and lay down on the bed.“Diego,” I called. He looked at me, still lying down. “Is something wrong?” he asked.“Nothing’s wrong. I just need to talk to you.”He sat up on the bed, his gaze sharpening. “Talk to me? What is it about? Go on!”“Tomorrow is my father's burial anniversary,” I said, looking at him. “I know I've missed it for two years, but I can't miss this one.”Diego's expression changed. His usual composure cracked, replaced by guilt or… regret? I couldn't quite place it.“Adriana…”“I was wondering if… if you would come with me. And the kids of course.”He stared at me, guilt pricking at him. “Are you sure? You want me to come with you?” he asked.“Yes, I do. It would be better for me.”He sighed. “But you know what I did. I mean I was the one…”“It doesn't matter again, Diego. It happened years ago. It has been forgotten
Adriana's POV The first few days back home were normal and peaceful. We lived peacefully. I had learned to understand Diego and love him more and he continued to care for me from time to time. Jimena and Dante, upon waking to their new surroundings, needed a little time to adjust, but soon found joy in every part of the mansion. They played freely and moved around, however they could without a limited place to go. I always spent hours watching them explore and play around the house comfortably. This was the life I had wanted for them. This was how comfortably and freely I wanted them to live. Not in confined spaces.Diego, being cautious, had doubled the security. New faces, new men of his were always around the house, discreetly watching out for enemies. He also made sure that their presence never affected the children's freedom. This time, he was always around. He barely went to his office. He would play with the kids or take them to the garden, always watching them play. He was
Adriana's POV I descended the stairs, carrying both Jimena and Dante in my arms. I was ready to leave. Diego was waiting by the front door. He looked less tired than he had last night, a flicker of resolve in his eyes. His men had already loaded the last of the luggage onto the trunk of the car. We were finally ready to leave.“Ready?” he asked, his voice low.I nodded, a mix of happiness and anticipation in me. This was it. Two years of being in solitude. And we were now leaving. Going home.He carried our son from my hands, kissing his forehead.“Let's go,” he said. He led the way, and I followed behind, clutching my daughter tightly. When Diego's men were finished with the packing, they shut the door of the trunk. Then, Diego led me to another black SUV parked there. He opened the back door of the for me to enter, then he entered too, placing our son on his laps. After a few minutes, one of him men entered the front seat of the car, the other one entering the driver's seat. Then,
