"You take me for a fool?” He yelled, gripping my arms tightly, his fingers making sure to leave marks. “I would never lie about something of utmost importance, Diego”, I tried to convince him while earnestly trying to save myself from his strong grip. “No one dares to look me in the face and lie.” He said while gripping my arms more strongly than ever. “Yet, you stand here, lying to my face. You want to use me against my father as your revenge, isn't that right Adriana?” With that, he let go of my arms, shoving me aside angrily—whilst I hit my head against a door frame. _______________ A strong-willed yet vulnerable young lady from a mafia family finds herself stuck in a marriage with a rival heir arranged by both families as a means to stop bloodshed among them. “WHAT?” I screamed. I couldn't understand why my father would arrange such a thing without my approval first. “I will never marry him, Dad!”. I said, filled with anger and hoping for him to change his mind. “I know that you despise that family and mafia as a whole, but I am doing this for your own good”, my dad replied. I didn't like his tone; he sounded genuinely concerned about me which was rare coming from him. “I raised you as a single dad, but now that you have grown, I need to be reassured that you are safe and in good hands. “Good hands?”. That word felt wrong to me. They are a mafia family and our worst rivals. How could I ever feel safe in their so-called hands? My tone sounded sarcastic but I didn't care. I didn't want to reason with my dad; it felt futile. “I am doing this to stop bloodshed among us and keep you safe” he continued, trying to convince me. These explanations weakened me the more. “I have arranged the marriage and you will get married to him. It is final”. Before I could say anything, he finalized his words; his tone stern and authoritative. That tone was more like him. I stormed out of his office, still furious, unable to utter a word. All I could think about was a way to change my dad's mind. Nothing would ever make me marry into the Castillo family. As soon as I entered my bedroom, I picked up my phone and dialed Juan's number. He was the only person I could think of who might help change my father's mind. “Hey, Juan, how quickly can you get back to Mexico?”.I asked him, skipping our usual conversation and pleasantries. “Is everything alright?”I could feel his sudden worry, so I didn't want to add to it. “Just please get here before 8 a.m. tomorrow” was all I managed to say. I couldn't explain anything over the phone. His assurance after that meant everything to me but a small part of me still felt uneasy and uncertain about tomorrow. I lay down on my bed, trying to figure out a way out of my situation when memories began flooding back. I still remember that day vividly. I was just eleven years old, barely knowing much about how life or death was. My mum had been in the hospital for a week and my dad didn't want to tell me what was wrong with her. My driver was supposed to take me to see her after school, but I didn't make it in time. Diego had locked me inside my classroom when the school session ended. By the time a teacher found me and I reached the hospital, my mum had already died. “She waited a long time for you, dear, but she couldn't wait anymore.” That was all I could hear my dad say. I regretted not telling her goodbye or hugging her one last time, and it was all Diego's fault. Deep down inside, I wished I had never known Diego since childhood. I could never forget that painful memory, and I could never forgive him either. And now, I was being forced to marry him? I could never let that happen. “Shoot!” I exclaimed, as I got an urgent call and remembered my schedule. Diego's POV “What do you mean he escaped?”I glared at Rodrigo. “That fool knew we were coming and escaped the moment we got there. We couldn't do anything!.”Rodrigo said. I want him caught and brought to me by tomorrow noon. Do you hear me?” I glanced at Rodrigo and he nodded. “Diego, please calm down. They at least tried to catch him,” my best buddy Luis said, patting my shoulder. I glanced at him. “They still did a poor job by not catching him. I trained them very well, yet they haven't managed to capture a single guy in three days.” I was disappointed in them and I wanted it to be evident. “Diego, I have an important message from your father,” Luis said seriously while holding out his phone. I signaled for Rodrigo and the rest of my men to leave my office and they complied. Luis stepped closer to me and read the message on his phone. He then pulled out an envelope from his pocket and handed it to me, explaining that someone had delivered it. “WHAT?” I roared, standing up from my chair. My bodyguards standing near the entrance shook and I liked it. “Calm down, please,” Luis urged, but I was too angry to listen to him. “Why would my father do such a thing without my consent first?” I demanded, trying to get an understanding but failing. “Tell the driver to get the car ready now” I instructed Luis. He quickly went to follow my order. Without hesitation, I left my office and headed for the car. As I passed my men in the lobby, they all stared at me. “Gather as many men as possible. You must bring that man to me tomorrow, no matter what it takes.” I commanded, pointing at Rodrigo. “Yes, boss,” he replied, and I was satisfied. I left the building immediately, forgetting the envelope in my office. ||| “Mr. Diego, your father wants to see you in his office now,” one of the servants said immediately I entered the living room. “Wait here for me; I'll be back,” I told Luis before storming off. “What the hell dad!” I roared as I barged into his office. “I am sure you have heard the information clearly. You need to be ready for tomorrow.” He spoke casually but his words only made me angrier. “Is that all you have to say? Why did you arrange such a thing without my consent?” I was torn between anger and confusion. No matter what, I wasn't going to leave without a valid reason or answer. “You need to see this as a peace treaty to stop bloodshed among us. Besides, you are old enough to get married.” That was all he could say. I felt so enraged at the thought of marrying the daughter of my rival. “Couldn't you choose anyone other than the daughter of our rival?”I needed a more valid explanation. “Son, you will marry her tomorrow, if not for anything else, then for my sake.” With that, he ended our conversation and left his office. I am Diego Castillo, the most feared person in all mafia syndicates and here I am, being forced into something I didn't bargain for. I could never agree to this. “Where are you going, Diego?” Luis asked, concern evident in his voice as I exited the office and headed for the living room door. “You will not follow me,” I commanded, casting a quick glance at him. With that, I left for my car, wanting to drive alone. I sped beyond the driving limit, heading to an unknown destination. I didn't care.Adriana's POV Before Diego could react to the bullet the assistant fired, Juan swiftly shot the assistant on his neck. He collapsed to the ground, his eyes open and his body lifeless. The bullet that was fired grazed Luis' thigh and slight blood rushed from the wound.Diego approached us, his expression tensed. “Are you alright? Did the bullet enter deep? he asked, looking at us.“I'm in slight pain, but I'm fine,” I said, my voice barely audible. He glared at me, his expression indifferent. “I wasn't referring to you,” he said, his voice firm.I looked away, embarrassed. Of course, he didn't care about me, how could I forget about that.“I'm alright, Diego. But most of our men are dead,” Luis said, looking at the bodies on the floor.“How about Rodrigo? Where is he?” Diego asked, not seeing him anywhere.“He was shot in his stomach, so he went inside to remove the bullet,” he explained.“When you return, we'll hire more men,” Diego said, sighing.Luis looked at Diego, confusion etc
Diego's POV I sat in the living room, an assortment of weapons scattered across the floor. I picked them up one by one, examining each to ensure they were in person working order. Luis entered the room, his expression serious.“How can you be so calm, Diego? This is serious,” he said, his voice laced with a hint of panic. I continued my inspection of the guns, ignoring his question.“We need to leave,” he stated firmly. I paused, finally looking at him. “Leave for where?” I asked, my brows furrowing.“We can't stay here. The Caruso syndicate might attack us at home,” he explained, the tension evident in his voice.I turned back to the weapons, resuming my examination.“Come on Diego, you would be safer in the office. Besides, all our men are waiting, armed and ready for the fight,” he urged, desperate for us to leave immediately.I nodded, holstering my gun. “Alright. Let's go then,” I conceded.Luis nodded in agreement. “The car is ready,” he said. I instructed him to gather all t
Adriana's POV I sat in the back seat of the car, watching Luis load my luggage into the car's trunk. Confusion swirled within me; why was he doing that? He shut the trunk and slid into the driver's seat.“Are you ready to go, Mrs?” He asked, starting the engine.“Huh?” I mumbled, completely thrown. I didn't understand what he was saying. Where was I going?“Where am I going?” I asked, searching Luis' face for answers. He looked at me, his expression calm.“No one told you? Not even Diego?” He asked, surprise evident in his tone.I looked down. “It's not like we talk at all for him to tell me anything” I mumbled.“I apologize for not telling you about today,” he said, bowing his head. I looked at him, guilt pricking at me. It wasn't his fault and he didn't need to apologize. I wasn't comfortable with his show of respect; it made me uneasy.“No need to apologize. It's alright,” I said. “Diego said I should take you to go and see your father,” he said.I gasped, a smile immediately spr
Adriana's POV Mr Emilio collapsed on the floor, blood rushing out from his lifeless body. The chef gasped and looked away quickly.I remained motionless, shock filling my body. Diego really killed Mr Emilio, and he didn't flinch. He looked at me, no damn emotion in his eyes. My heart was beating fast and I stared at Emilio's body.“Avert your gaze from there. If you lose consciousness again, I won't be responsible for it,” he said, his tone stern and firm.I hurriedly averted my eyes; looking down at the bed. I was too shocked to say anything to him.“Chef, take her back to her room when her room has been cleaned,” Diego instructed. Before he left the room, I glanced at him once more and he glanced back with an indifferent expression. He left the room, shutting the door behind him.Diego's POV I left the room and went into my study. I wasn't shocked by what I did; it wasn't the first time I had killed a friend because of betrayal.I dialed Luis' number and waited for him to answer.
Mr Antonio's POV “Why haven't you been receiving my calls recently?” I asked when Luis was settled in the living room.“I've been occupied with business deals, sir,” he replied.“Alright. What's Diego up to?” I asked, getting to the point.“What do you mean, sir?” Luis asked, looking at me, seeking more explanation.“Why did he order his men to guard Javier's ward in the hospital?” I pressed, waiting impatiently for an answer. At that, he averted his eyes, staring at his legs. “What's wrong? Why are you acting that way?” I asked, noticing his sudden, unusual expression.“Umm… I was the one that gave the orders for his men to go there. It wasn't Diego,” he confessed. My tone changed instantly. “Why did you do that? I questioned, annoyance rising. “What was the point?” He looked at me and sat up on the sofa, realising my annoyance. “I just felt that Mr Cruz was still in danger; his kidnappers haven't been caught yet,” he explained plainly.I glared at him as he explained. He was the
Diego's POV I sped on the highway, honking at and overtaking every car in my front. When I reached home and went into the living room, the house was unusually quiet.Just then, I heard a faint voice screaming and I realised that it was coming from Adriana's room. I hurriedly went up the stairs, heading for the room.As I flung the door wide open, I was shocked to see Emilio fondling Adriana's breast. She lay on the bed, helpless and weak, while Emilio held her hands as he caressed the breast.“Adriana!” I called, shock etched on my face. Instantly, Emilio got up and looked at me.I hurried closer to Adriana, ignoring Emilio as he stood there.“Adriana,” I called again, raising her from the bed. As I held her up, blood rushed slowly from her nose and onto the bed sheets.“Mr Castillo,” she muttered, her voice faint. “Help me.”Tears rolled down her eyes even in her almost unconscious state and she sobbed softly.I quickly carried her in my arms and headed for the door.
