Scarlett POV
"I need you to check in with my mother regularly. She refuses to let the family doctor near her." Her eyes fell closed and she took a deep breath. "She likes you. I'm sure she wouldn't mind." "I'm not so sure she'll let me. I just- She held my hands in a tight grip. "Just her blood pressure. She's starting to scare me, I need her alive." Her eyes were hopeful and this might just be my chance to get closer to all of them. If she was asking this from me, she was be helpless. "I'll do it." "She usually goes to sleep around this time. Her bedroom is by the left, you can miss it." I never expected to see her this way, pleading with a nobody. Somehow it made me happy, she seemed more human this way and as much as I tried to not get my hopes up, it did. I might just get her to like me. I knocked lightly before walking into Granny's room. She was wrapped in the warmth of layers of duvet. "Let me guess, Audrey asked you to check in on me." She shook her head, disapprovingly. "She doesn't get it, I was this close to death. Of course, I'm meant to make a few crude jokes. Tell her I'm fine." "Uh- " Call me granny, Aiden calls me that and you are my granddaughter now." She beckoned me to sit by her side. I smiled. "I've never had a granny before." "That makes two of us, I've never had a grandmother. All I got is Aiden." She rolled her eyes. She seemed to love doing that. "Don't get me wrong, I love him but he's stubborn and there's so little I can do with him." I wasn't sure how to reply to that. "But now, I have a granddaughter. I call tell you all about his embarrassing childhood." I gave a soft laugh. It would be nice to hear all that. She knew what she was doing, she was luring me in and it was working but I had a task at hand. "I'd love to hear all about it but first how about I check your blood pressure?" The smile fell off her face. I wasn't sure what to do anymore when Aiden came in. "That's where you went. I see Granny has kidnapped you. Too bad you can't have her Granny." He sat on opposite sides. I could see just how much he loved her. "I'm so glad to see you getting your life together Aid, I can see how much you love each other." She placed my hand in Aiden's, joining us together. We gave each other awkward glances, unsure what she was talking about. "I need to rest now," she turned to me. "You can check me. I'm too happy to turn you down. You changed my grandson, I should do something for you." I gave a shaky smile at her words, checking her blood pressure. Everything was relatively okay. Aiden looked at me with worry as I hadn't said anything. "She's alright," I gave a smile. "Everything is good Granny." The lady was already fast asleep. I gave a quiet chuckle, leaving the room with Aiden leading the way. "I'm sorry about all this, dinner was a disaster." He was apologetic, his hand found it's way to his neck, giving a shy rub. "It's alright, it might not be as bad as you think." His mother was waiting for us, me. I guess she could tell from the look on my face that it was all good as the tension left her shoulders, her hand falling back to her sides from her chest. "It's late already, why don't you spend the night." His father offered. "Besides, it's been a while since Aiden spent the night with us." "Sir, I don't think- "You can spend the night in Aiden's room, you are getting married in a few weeks right?" His mother interjected, not meeting my eyes. I wasn't the only one shocked. We were stunned she was offering. I thought she hated me. "She's right, you are our daughter already. You should spend the night. I'm sure your parents will be fine with it." My parents? My parents would be thrilled. It would mean they don't have to go to jail but I wasn't fine with it. I couldn't spend the night alone in a room with a man I barely knew. I turned to Aiden, waiting for him to say something. Surely he wouldn't agree with them. I knew he hated the offer as much as I did. I was wrong. "It's fine, I'll let her parents know she'll be spending the night with me." My head snapped in his direction. What?!! I opened my mouth to say something but couldn't. They looked thrilled to have me here. His dad urged us on. "Aiden, take her to your room. I turned to his mom. "I'm sure you can sleep in his clothes. We can go shopping together tomorrow." Shopping? "I'm helping with the wedding plans. We'll be sleeping over a lot." She stated firmly, leaving no room for disagreement. I'm not sure how I felt. I was being bombarded with a lot of expectations and responsibilities. I can't believe I forgot about the wedding! I was getting married to Aiden. I only thought about the dinner and nothing else. Aiden finally stepped in. "We already hired a wedding planner, Mom. I don't want my wife stressed right before my wedding." He pulled me into him for the second time tonight. "She'll need all her energy right after." I gasped, my face flaming up while he smirked. "Aiden!" His mother yelled. I guess she got the message too. "That ends this conversation then. Good night." Hurriedly, he took me up to his room, his arm still around me. The sweet smell of cologne came from him. It was very male but somehow, I liked it. "Here." He opened the door, letting me in. "You can thank me now." His hands shoved into his pocket, a very male stance. "For what? You just embarrassed me." I countered, a frown set on my lips. "Embarrassed? I saved you from what would have been an awkward conversation for you." He took a step closer. "First shopping, the wedding planning, the list goes on. I just saved you from my mother." "I thought she didn't like me." "Not at first but she agreed to let you sleepover. It got to mean something. She's warming up to you." I nodded. "I guess the night was a success." "It was." I didn't realize it but he was in my face now, only a step away. His hand went for my waist, pulling me into him. "Let's keep it that way because my mother is right by the door trying to listen in on us. I guess we weren't very convincing." I took a slight peep and there was a shadow right at the door. "What should we do?" I mouthed His hand lifted my chin. "A kiss should do the trick."AIDEN’S POVIt felt surreal to me.I never could have conceived the idea that I would one day be getting ready to marry the absolute love of my life.It felt like a little dream come true, a dream that I probably never conceived in my wildest imagination.Yet, I felt nothing but happiness and a sense of fulfillment and happiness as I looked on into the future with a sense of hope and happiness.“I see that you’re having cold feet, Son,” my Dad’s voice came through as he walked into the room.I had been standing right in front of the mirror, trying out solid affirmations and reassuring myself that I had made the right choice for myself and my life.“No Dad. I’m very excited, just a little bit nervous,” I tried my best to say, even though my voice was cracking.“She’s so perfect Dad, what if she’s too good for me? I have always been so selfish, what if I’m not good enough for her and our kids?,” I continued.
SCARLETT’S POVI was freaking out!!!!Aiden had asked me to marry him and I had said Yes!Did it freak me out? Of course, it didBut would I pass on the idea of getting married to the absolute love of my life? Not.I was in my room, looking up some of the interior design samples that the decorator had sent to me when I felt his shadow over me.“You need help with that baby girl,” Aiden said, towering over me and leaning in for a kiss.“No, but I may need your help with other things,” I said, smiling and reaching out to kiss him.Every day, I fell more and more in love with this beautiful man.“Oh, I sure know how to help with that,” he said, as he scooped me up and planted a kiss firmly on my lips.I squealed. He lifted me and then dropped me carefully on the bed, all the while kissing me fervently like he was parched and thirsty for me.We had been frequently having
CHAPTER 133AIDEN’S POVI headed down the stairs to make Scarlett the most delicious cup of coffee, although I had some slight reservations about that.Should she be drinking coffee though?Well, whatever. If she wanted coffee, she was going to get coffee.Anything for Scarlett. She was going to get any damn thing she wanted and that was final.I needed to make a few calls because I had to make everything official, the contract mattered very little to me anymore. I wanted her as my wife for real and I needed to make that happen in the realest possible way, and make sure the whole thing was as beautiful as the woman of my dreams. While the pot of coffee was brewing, Donald came inside, I had asked him to take a survey of stores with the most beautiful rings in town, I did not mind custom-made rings and I just wanted anything that was going to be perfect for the perfect woman.“Hey, Donald. Any upda
SCARLETT’S POVI watched as Aiden stood up for himself. Being brave against all odds. We all gasped when he said that he wouldn’t be arresting them any longer, knowing that they deserved that arrest, he had been surprising to all of us and even the agents had looked on in disbelief.“You’re sure Mr. Aiden, because we did receive a call that you needed our help getting some people detained, you’re sure that you’re not being held under duress or something like that?” the agent, the one that looked like he was their leader asked, with a questioning glance, as he looked on each of us suspiciously.“No Officer, thanks for your prompt response; but I just made a wrong call due to some confusing series of events, I’m so sorry about that and I apologize,” Aiden said, while trying to look as apologetic as possible.“Alright then Sir, you can always call our office if you feel the need to, we’re always at your service,” The agent leader said, turn
AIDEN’S POVI would be lying if I said that I was surprised by what Pen said, nothing she did seemed to surprise me that much. I had known her for a while and I knew that she did not play by the rule book, but I was glad to have beat her at her own game, it felt extremely refreshing.“you better start explaining yourself, because I have already called the FBI on you and I’m certain you all are not ready to be arraigned for fraud,” I hoped to God that my eyes were portraying exactly how I was feeling. I wasn’t mincing words and I needed them to know that I had all this under control and they were all collectively going to suffer for even trying to sabotage the security of my company.“You all should better start talking because there was no way I was bluffing,”I could see the look of unbelief in the eyes of Charlie Fox and the bewildered look in Pen’s eyes, followed by the tired look in Scarlett.Scarlett was very tire
SCARLETT'S POVFor the longest time, I thought I still had a glimmer of hope to hold onto; something small but significant, something that excited the senses even if it burned, something that lingers on in your memory even in the darkness. It was all a facade. In reality, I had nothing. Nothing to hold, nothing to have, nothing to remember, it was all empty, void, and meaningless None of it made any sense, none of it was great, it was all just a sad and lonely facade that I deluded myself into thinking that I had... I had nothing… I watched as Aiden tried to lie his way out of what I had just heard. He had thought me to be a fool all these while I couldn't stand the betrayal that came from knowing all of these. I can't believe Aiden spoke about me in a dehumanizing manner to this lady of all people. At this point, I could say I greatly preferred Odessa sneering at me, not this girl who stood in front
