Surrogate Mother To A Contract Wife

Scarlett's POV

Mr. Matthew, the secretary seemed to wait up for me as he led the way. He knocked thrice before stepping aside and letting me in.

Staring like a freak, I gaped at the magnificent interior. I had not an ounce of artistic skills but I knew a work of art when I saw one. A large mahogany desk with brown blinds hanging from behind. A beautifully white tiled floor that I could see my reflection in them.

I stood in the middle, completely lost when a voice called out to me.

“Are you done?”

I looked forward to finding a dashing young man staring right at me with a blank look. I blushed vigorously as I made my way to him.

Taking a closer look, he was breathtaking. His jet black hair styled so effortlessly my breathe seized. The tailored suit fitted to his large frame I could almost imagine what was underneath.

He gave me a weird look and I realized I was staring again. "I'm sorry. Your office is so beautiful, I couldn’t help myself.”

He simply nodded, offering me a seat while he took his.

He ignored me for a minute, not breaking focus from his screen, tapping away on his keypad. I sat, engulfed in the awkward moment that surrounded us.

I cleared my throat, trying to draw his attention but he didn’t seem to notice.

Finally giving up, I spoke, “Why am I here?” I asked, getting right down to buisness.

“Why do you think you are here? Your parents didn't say anything to you?” he questioned, maintaining a straight face.

“Not a word.”

"Okay, I'll get right to it." His focus stayed on me. “I know you have little to no penny to your name, and I also know that your brother is ill and you are in search of money to pay his bill.” He dropped every sentence in a single breath as he searched for something in his drawers.

I gaped like a fish, too stunned to speak.

I didn’t have a reply for him because I was stunned and wasn’t expecting a total stranger to know so much about me.

I guess it was so easy to tell that I was broke.

“I’ll make you an offer,” he announced as he brought out a file from his drawer, pulling out a pen.

“I have been in search of a surrogate mother. I did a background check on you and your records are clean,” He flipped through the file, not sparing me a glance.

"Why me? You don't even know me." I tried reasoning with him, still lost and wondering how a clearly deranged- handsome but still crazy- was allowed to run a company.

He looked right at me. "I know enough. Your father works in finance here and your mother is a housewife." He said all in monotone.

I wasn't sure how I felt about him having a background check on me. I didn't know him and this was my first time meeting him. I got a mail saying they could take all my problems and that led me here. I was starting to regret following it.

“If you agree to this, I’ll pay your brother’s medical bills and pay you five hundred thousand dollars.”

I froze, my fist clenching as the urge to punch his pretty face took over. I but down hard on my tongue as reason came forth, I couldn't add a lawsuit to my problems.

“And you can forget about the lawsuit on your father,” he added as he handed a paper over to me.

It was a contract.

You mustn’t tell anyone about this agreement

You can’t leave the place where I’ll provide for you during the period of pregnancy

After nine months you have no right to claim the baby or whatsoever

I was furious and irritated. “What lawsuit and what is this about?” I got up in a snap, the chair falling back in an instant.

“I might be poor but I’ll never sell my baby for money!” I yelled, shocking him.

My hands were shaky as I was filled with rage. I walked over to him, threw the suit in his face, and turned towards the door for a dramatic exit.

"Know this, You might be rich but you can’t buy everyone off with money,” I was about storming off when his voice stopped me.

"Your father owes me quite an amount."

I turned very slowly, my brows hunched. "What are you talking about?"

"I'm not saying more. Run home to your parents, they should be able to answer your questions."

The smirk on his face had dread sitting in my stomach. I never expected my day to begin this way. It was probably the impending debts or the worry that Hudson, my brother might be in more danger but I believed his words. He didn't look like the kind of man to lie about something like this.

I walked out of his office feeling less hopeful than I did when I woke up. I made a silent prayer to the heavens as I rushed home, hoping to get an answer to all my questions.
