Alexander Ward took the cellphone away from his ear with slow, careful movements. Erica came out of the bathroom and saw the harried look on his face.
“What is it, Alex? Are the kids okay? Who was that on the phone?” she asked. She hoped to God the twins didn’t get up to mischief and that Raven had trouble with them.
Alexander stared at her as if he was seeing her for the first time.
“Erica, they’re alive.” He replied.
She frowned at him. Has he finally lost it? Or was someone trying to scam them. “Alex, come on…” she began.
“I just spoke to Chase.” He broke then, tears ran down his face and his shoulders shook.

Christine stepped into the shower, turning the taps to full blast and letting the warm water wash away the blood and grime. She lifted her face to the spray, eyes closed. Alexander wasn’t prepared for the media that accosted them as soon as they got through customs. Alexander drove Chase and Christine to the hospital where Chase was admitted for surgery. Christine hated hospitals, but she said nothing to Chase.
