Chapter One Hundred Forty-Nine

Still not at ease, the steward said, "Let's go somewhere else to talk. If we're discovered and reported, I'll be done for."

Quinn sighed, feeling that the steward was overly anxious, but she followed him to a secluded spot. It was late now, and her parents and the maids had returned to their respective rooms. The maids' quarters were in a separate area, and they had their own rooms too.

Although the steward had called it a secluded place, he led Quinn to the backyard of the mansion. It wasn't exactly discreet, but at this late hour, no one would come here.

"Alright, go ahead," Quinn urged, having to walk a lot, making her breath heavily from exhaustion. She stood with her arms crossed, looking at him.

Only now did the steward begin to speak, "When you returned to your room after talking with Mr. Harvey, he also returned to the living room to speak with Mr. and Mrs. Reed. I didn't witness that conversation, but..."

"But what...?" Quinn furrowed her brows.
