Chapter 5

Gemma blushed, but she did not allow herself to shed tears.

“How can you say such things?” Gemma said softly.

But Jethro did not care and coldly left the table, only Gemma sat face down on the table in her heart uncomfortable and hurt. The ring was not meant for her but for another woman, a cold and indifferent man like Jethro would not buy jewelry to give to someone unless he loved the other woman.

But Gemma had no proof that Jethro was having an affair, and that ring she also did not know to whom it would belong. From that day on, Gemma could not open the door of Jethro's private office, every time he left or entered the room, it was locked and even though she stood outside to call him, she did not answer or open the door.

Her husband is now a director of a relatively large company, so he often has to attend parties to socialize with other partners. Jethro for some reason had asked her to go there with him, perhaps because everyone at that party would be accompanied by a spouse or lover.

Gemma dressed in splendid and noble clothes walks beside Jethro, looking from the outside, the two really fit together like they were born for each other. Jethro's expression was always cold to everyone, but his actions when holding her hand or holding her when getting off the car were very gentle. Everyone at the party admired Gemma for having such a wonderful husband like Jethro, but only Gemma knew that Jethro didn't want to touch her without being forced.

Gemma from a young age had often been with her father to luxurious parties like this so she was very confident but at a party, with many people like this, she felt very lost and lonely. Jethro went to talk to some other company representatives, on the surface, it was a party to have fun but the essence was to attract relationships and benefits about himself.

At this party, Gemma did not know anyone because Jethro had never told her or taken her to such places. Perhaps this was the first time after their wedding that Gemma had walked beside Jethro publicly like this.

Watching her husband's shadow fade away, Gemma is upset, she doesn't know much about Jethro's business or partnerships, and most importantly, Jethro doesn't want her to get close to him. Gemma stood quietly holding the glass of wine and shaking it back and forth as if thinking about something, Gemma's beautiful and beautiful appearance made many men want to talk, she knew those eyes were craving her but Gemma showed no interest.

“Isn't that Gemma Robert? So she looks like that.” A voice of a woman nearby.

Gemma, who didn't pay attention to what the group of women was talking about, suddenly her name was mentioned so she couldn't ignore it. But Gemma remained silent listening to their conversation, although knowing they were looking at her, she pretended not to hear and continued drinking.

But she seemed not to care, the more the women encroached, the louder their voices became as if trying to tell Gemma.

“She's beautiful too, but no matter how beautiful she is, being abandoned by her husband is no use? She has a rich father but she is just enjoying herself and doesn't know how to do anything."

“Yes, unlike us, she doesn't have a job other than showing off her money and jewelry.”

“Money that is not earned by herself but still spends it wildly like that, she really doesn't know what is mourning? I heard her husband had another woman.”

Does Jethro have another woman? Gemma heard this and was startled, suddenly reminded of the ring. She is scared and confused, she has absolutely no evidence of Jethro having an affair but that does not mean that she does not suspect it. Now the strangers are also talking about Jethro having another woman who makes the suspicion in her greater than ever.

She clasped the glass in her hand and tried to suppress the anger and insecurity in her heart. Although Jethro does not love her, Gemma still believes that her husband does not have an affair.

Gemma wanted to go to the women who were talking about her but remembered Jethro's words before coming here.

"Don't interfere with my work and don't bother me."

Gemma pursed her lips and bowed her head again, now she wanted to get out of there. This was the first time Gemma had become weak and tolerated the bad words of others. If it was the Gemma of the past, she would step forward arrogantly and confront those who dared to speak ill of her.

Just like that, Gemma's self-esteem was trampled severely by their words. She tried to endure until this party was over because even if she wanted to stand far away from them, they would still purposely approach and deliberately speak loudly for her and the others to hear.

Gemma clenched her fists, she was so angry that she shivered, but there was nothing she could do but wait for the party to end, and she dared not step forward to Jethro's side. While thinking that just waiting for this would be over, a man's deep voice appeared.

“Do you feel good when you talk behind someone's back?”

The whispering of the other women was also silent, one of them was disinterested and uncomfortable saying:

“What does this have to do with you? It's none of your business!"

The man smiled softly: "It's not just me but you too. How do you know Gemma Robert doesn't have a job? Just because you see her bragging all the time? How do you know that Gemma Robert's husband is having an affair, maybe your husband is also cheating and you don't know it."

"What? How dare you! The angry woman shouted, drawing the attention of many nearby people, so the woman hurriedly covered her mouth.

The man continued casually, “Why don't I dare, you talk about Gemma Robert too.”

Those women were weak, and could not argue with the man, so they angrily went away. Gemma didn't turn to look at them so she didn't know who the man who helped her was, she stood with her back silently listening to their conversation. Suddenly, warm water flowed through her heart, thinking that this party would be the worst party she had ever attended, but thinking about it, it wasn't too bad because of the appearance of this man.

“Miss. Robert, right ?”

Gemma was startled and turned to look at the man who had helped her. He had mysteriously pure black eyes and hair, and his smile and voice were so gentle and deep that Gemma couldn't take her eyes off of him.

“A… is it me, are you…?”

The man smiled softly, looking at Gemma so deeply in his eyes that she wanted to avoid it, he lifted her hand and planted a kiss on the back of it.

“Hello, beautiful lady, my name is Harvey Susan. It's okay to call me Harvey." Harvey said.

Gemma suddenly realized this man, Harvey Susan is also a famous businessman in the market, and his family is also very rich. Before her marriage to Jethro, her father often mentioned Harvey Susan, but she did not pay attention. He exuded a rare mysterious and strange expression. Harvey and Jethro are like two opposite extremes.

“Thank you for helping me,” Gemma said quietly, embarrassed that she couldn't do anything about the situation.

Harvey smiled at her, gave her an elaborate business card, and said:

“This is my business card, if you want you can contact me anytime. And I'm a very free person.”

Gemma looked at the card in her hand, which she did not want to accept but, out of politeness, kept in her wallet. The two exchanged a few sentences, Gemma feels very lucky to have someone to talk to, she has always been proactively approached by others.

Suddenly, Harvey turned his eyes to a place behind her.

"Is that Miss Robert's husband?"

Gemma looked back and saw that Jethro was heading toward her. Jethro walked quickly to embrace Gemma's waist, staring at Harvey without any sympathy.

“Thank you Mr. Susan for talking to my wife, she's not the kind of person who talks first.” He was not sympathetic to Harvey, although his words were polite, they contained irony.

Harvey ignored Jethro's words and turned to Gemma.

“Miss. Robert, maybe we'll see each other someday. I'd be happy if you contacted me.”

Gemma looked at Jethro's face, afraid that if she continued, there would be a great war. She leaned slightly against Jethro.

“Jethro, I'm tired, can we go home first?”

Jethro glanced at her without saying anything but walked toward the door with her.
