CHAPTER 40
Isabelle heard a shy knock on the door. She closed the closet and then went to open the door. In front of her were Frannie and Diana. Without waiting to be invited in, the two girls ran to the bed and sat down.
"What's happening, mes chères?" (my dears) she asked, trying to stay calm. Looking at their faces, Isabelle understood that the girls had come to say goodbye to her. “Do you need help to prepare?”
"No..." they muttered together. "Granny told us that you will leave today..." Frannie added.

Once she arrived in the living room, Isabelle witnessed an astonishing scene, something she didn't see every day. Andrew and Isabelle got out of the car in front of the entrance. Lucy came out of the house to greet them. Isabelle smiled at her. The elevator doors were opening and Shawn was preparing to enter when his cousin's voice stopped him. He turned and looked at Billy. The two of them had spoken little since the return of Billy and Chris from Europe’s trip. Shawn didn't like the fact that his cousin was dating Andrew Baldwin's daughter. Chris walked toward his son and looked at him carefully. He squinted just a little and he shook his head slightly. He was a little surprised by what Billy had just told him.“I didn't know you were so much into Andrew's daughter. There could be heard a strange noise in the room... a weird song. Isabelle opened her eyes and looked everywhere around her trying to figure out what was the noise she was hearing. Maybe it came from outside... sometimes the stable guys while working were listening to music on the radio. The little song was still going on and Isabelle rose from her armchair. The noise seemed to be coming from her desk drawer. Isabelle opened it, but at this point, the noise stopped. The only thing Isabelle saw was the cell phone Marie had given her. The display was on and she took it and read what was written on it: ‘you have 3 missed calls’ and ‘you have 3 new messages’. All of them were from Marie. Isabelle had been home for three days and she remembered that she hadn’t called Marie yet as she had promised her before leaving the villa. Isabelle had put the cell phone in the drawer and forgotten

Once out of the room, Isabelle closed the door and leaned against the wall. She was trembling violently. This reaction wasn’t the result of fear, it was the consequence of the anger and frustration she was feeling at that moment. Until a few days ago this reaction was always caused by her discussions with Shawn... And now, the arguments with her father had the same effect on her. Isabelle felt so tired of this constant humiliation on her father’s part, but she knew that she couldn’t continue arguing with him, that all this could lead him to have a stronger crisis or could lead to his… death. The hospital continued to be a place that kept sending chills down to Isabelle’s spine. The last time an ambulance had brought her father here, all their lives had been changed forever... and not for the better. At least, this time the situation was under control, as the paramedics had managed to stabilize Andrew after she had given him CPR. One of the paramedics had told her that by doing it, she was the one who had saved her father's life. Once they arrived in the emergency room, her father went through all the check-ups. Because of the fall down the stairs that Andrew had seven years ago, the doctors decided to do a CT, just to be sure that everything was alright. Dr. Jones, the neurologist who treated her father the night of his accident, was still working there and he was paged immediately.
