Ethan's POV

Morning arrived too early. I dried my lips and steeled myself for the worst — a conversation with Aaron.

He hadn't come back again last night, which had given me too much time to think. Whatever urgent business he had to transact, I'd resolved to insist on this morning. He was maybe coming to call off the deal. Since my tantrum yesterday, after all the ado over Benson, it wouldn't be a surprise.

Fine. Let him. I told myself that I didn't mind.

I fiddled with my hair, staring at myself. The black blouse caressed my biceps, and the white trousers radiated a sharp contrast — a proper nine-to-five look. It made me look like Aaron — clean-cut, corporate, detached. Only I only dressed up for obligations.

With an hour left before work, I headed downstairs, hoping to get some coffee and recharge before addressing whatever conversation lay ahead.

But God had other plans.

Aaron was sitting there. At the dining table, with his coffee cup, staring at his phone.

"Good morning," I said

  • TAMING THE BILLIONAIRE; My Brother's Best Friend    A SAFE SPACE

Sandra's POVI closed the door quietly behind me, the sound echoing more than I wanted it to, like it might betray me. Like someone might know that just then, I was standing outside, right in front of a boy who was burdened with the entire world on his back.I continued to move inside the house, making an effort to relax my shoulders, to smile instead of frown. “Hey,” I said, shrugging, letting them see I could smile, I could“He must’ve missed his bus stop!” I shouted out into the hallway, pitching my voice lightly as I began to move towards the kitchen. “Three streets over. These delivery guys never read the addresses right!”I released a laugh, a small one, and wiped my slick palms on my jeans, hoping my husband wouldn’t take a close look at me. That he wouldn’t see how much my palms were shaking.“That happens,” he said distractedly from the living room, thank goodness. “Did he take the package back?”“Yes,” I said hastily. “All sorted.”I didn’t wait for further questions. I tu

  • TAMING THE BILLIONAIRE; My Brother's Best Friend    WAY BETTER TO STAY

Aaron’s POVThe soles of my feet felt like they were filled with wet cement as I entered the short path that led from my house to Ethan’s. It was just short. It had never been far. Every step was a punishment that I had caused upon myself. I paused at the foot of the porch, transfixed in front of the door that seemed like it was close to bursting. My hand trembled in mid-air.Knock. Don’t knockLeave. Stay.Memories swirled in my head. Ethan smiling on this very porch. Connor leaning on the railing with his beer. Sandra calling us in with dinner. It all seemed to belong to another world, another lifetime, another me.I swallowed hard and knocked.Once.Two.My heart pounded so hard in my chest that I could have vomited.Different thoughts filled my head like how the wrong person could open that door and everything could go horribly wrong. And as for Connor. He could break more than my nose and ribs this time. And if it was Ethan. Just the look on his face would be enough to kill me.

  • TAMING THE BILLIONAIRE; My Brother's Best Friend    THE FEEDING PROBLEM

Fourth day after the twins are born"She won't take it." Kaelin was trying to get the stronger twin to suck milk off her finger, baby kept turning her head screaming. "It's been two days since she nursed right.""Keep trying." Serna had the weak one, the one that kept choking. This one wouldn't even open its mouth, just made these sounds like something dying."I've tried thirty fucking times." Kaelin dipped her finger again, baby knocked it away with a tiny fist. "She doesn't want it.""She has to want something." Serna looked at the baby in her arms, skin going gray, you could see every rib. "This one's gonna die.""They're both gonna die." Elira was with Lyra, still out from yesterday's cutting, fever still cooking her. "Babies born this early need their mother's milk. Nothing else works.""What about another wolf's milk?" Rhea asked from the door. "Someone else who's nursing.""Tried yesterday." Elira didn't look up. "Woman in south wing, her baby's three weeks old. Got some of her

  • TAMING THE BILLIONAIRE; My Brother's Best Friend    WHAT LIES IN THE LAKE

Gil’s POVI was tired. Not tired enough that a night’s rest would cure me of my fatigue but tired to my very bones; tired enough that taking a breath was an effortMy own arms were aching from holding Amelia, her small form weighed down by her sleepiness, her head resting snug in the crook of my neck, as if it were her rightful place. This was what she always did when she was frightened or undone, and she certainly had cause to be both tonight.Aaron's fingers relaxed around my shoulders, slow and gentle, as if he could sense my fatigue through my skin. The instant he relaxed his grip, something in my chest gave way.I locked eyes with him, really saw him, and my heart ripped in two.One side of me wanted me to drag him back into my arms and hold him like I used to when he was young and crying about skinned knees or smashed toys. That part wanted to erase the past six years. It wanted to forget that anything bad had occurred. It wanted my son to be my son again. The other half of me w

  • TAMING THE BILLIONAIRE; My Brother's Best Friend    NO LOVE LIKE A MOTHER'S

Aaron’s POVMy voice cracked when I reached for her. “Mum, please.” She flinched like my hand was poison. Like I’d turned into something disgusting, something she wanted nothing to do with. Her eyes were already red and shiny, full of pain I’d carved into her. She shook her head, slow and final, and my chest split open. “You are not my son,” she said. She didn’t scream it. She just let the words fall, flat and lifeless. “I don’t want to see you again. Ever. You should leave. You’re not needed here.” And that was it. Whatever was left inside me just… vanished. Not broken. Not bruised. Gone. I dropped to my knees. Didn’t even mean to. The floor was freezing, but it barely registered. I wrapped my arms around her legs, desperate, like I was a little kid again and she might stay if I just held on. Like this was still home. “Mum, please,” I begged, sobbing. “I’m begging you. I don’t have anyone else. I swear I don’t. Please.” She didn’t touch me. Didn’t shove me off. Sh

  • TAMING THE BILLIONAIRE; My Brother's Best Friend    MORE THAN A NEED

Aaron’s POVThere had been weeks of complete silence. Weeks that had reduced the world to a small, crushing box that I was trapped inside. I had been discharged from the hospital a few days ago, but I had found that leaving that antiseptic room had not set me free—it had merely made life even more cumbersome. My home, that once had been a refuge for me, now seemed empty, resonating with every beat of my heart like a morbid reminder that life was going on, even though I was stuck in suspended animation.Every fiber of me hurt. My cuts and bruises were only the physical manifestation of the pain, but the ache within me, the hollow feeling, the flux of guilt that roiled through me like an insatiable monster, that was mine. Cheryl and Mandy had become my lifelines, coming by periodically to make sure I was holding together somewhat, but those relationships had frayed too. I can see it—the tension marking Cheryl's face, the tired slump of Mandy's shoulders as she smiled, but they still f
