Isabella POV

The restaurant had grown quieter as the evening wore on. The men near the bar had left, and one of the couples was gathering their things. Our plates had been cleared, along with the beef special—a kebab drenched in rich, spicy sauce.

Wesley pushed another glass toward me. The drink was creamy and sweet.

“Easy,” he said when I took another sip and felt warmth spread through me. “It's still a weekday. I'm not covering for you if you decide you can't make it to work tomorrow.”

Isabella POV “Keep your phone handy and text me every step,” Iris said, following me downstairs. “Anything weird, tell me right away.”“Of course.” I wrapped a scarf around my head before stepping out and slid into the backseat of the waiting car without looking at anyone in the lobby. The driver was pleasant, but unease stayed with me the entire ride. About twenty minutes in, I considered texting Wesley to tell him what was happening. But this was about the bond. I couldn't give him something he could turn into a dozen questions. We drove for nearly an hour, past where the city thinned into open road, until I wasn't sure I'd be home that night. We stopped at a gate so high and heavily fenced that I could see nothing beyond it except a red roof. Grandma Cassidy appeared and knocked on the tinted window, signaling the driver to let me out.“Glad you made it,” she said, taking my arm.“Where is this place?” I whispered as she led me through the gate.A bulky, bald-headed man searched m

Isabella POV Harrison agreed that we switch rooms the morning after the gala. With Iris’s help, we moved my things into his room and his into mine. I hadn't left his room since. Everything I needed came through the door, carried by Iris or Harrison, because I couldn't make myself walk down that hallway. It wasn't about whether Anita could actually hurt me. It was older than that. Some part of me had learned long ago that when someone wants to hurt you, the smartest thing to do is disappear somewhere they can't find you. That Monday, I didn't drop Maverick at daycare or go to the office. Iris came by before her shift with enough food to get us through the day. She gave me a look that said sorry without needing the word.“What are you going to do if Cassidy doesn't reach out today?”“I'll tell Wesley.”I shrugged. At this point, it didn't feel like there was much left to lose.“The worst is already happening. I'll tell him about the bond myself. Whatever happens, happens.”I wished her

Wesley POV The silence after Barbara and her parents left was deafening, like a bomb about to explode. It was clear Barbara had won my parents over, Mom especially. Mom assured Barbara’s mother, Gwen, that she’d get to the root of the matter, while Anita held Barbara’s hand as they headed downstairs. I wondered what rubbish Barbara was filling Anita’s head with.Dad stared at me as though, if he looked hard enough, whatever lie they thought I was hiding would crawl out of me.“Blame me all you want,” I said. “I don't care anymore. Nobody is willing to listen to me.”“Son, this is not the time to be passive-aggressive,” he said. “I never said I wouldn't believe you. It's unlike you to lie. But you brought her home yourself and said you were interested in her, even after your mom and I asked if you were sure.”I stayed silent, staring straight ahead. His gaze shifted between me and Charlie, who stood there quietly.“Do you have any evidence? Anything to prove what you're saying? Did y

Barbara POV “In the meantime, we can lay our grievances before Luna Lisa and Alpha Cameron,” mom said. “I’ll call Luna myself and tell her what that girl has done while making sure the Alpha family doesn’t look too closely and discover she’s connected to us.”I nodded, knowing that if that happened, our family would be the ones people whispered about, breeding illegitimate children and hiding them like something shameful.“I don’t plan on exposing anything,” I said. “We just need to be tactical. There’s more than one way to burn a house down without anyone seeing you holding the match.”“That’s my girl.” She smiled and kissed my forehead. “Leave it to me. I’ll call Luna Lisa. As for Isabella, she’s as good as gone.”I smiled back, letting her believe she was the one in control. My father returned home later that day, and I trusted my mother to make sure the entire house heard her grievances about Isabella, especially how bringing her back while she was pregnant with Maverick had been

Barbara POV“She’s a curse!” I screamed, pacing my mother’s bedroom as she sat frozen on the bed, still in her nightgown, her hair loose around her shoulders.“I always knew it, Mom. From the day that girl walked into this family, I knew she’d ruin everything good in it.”“Barbara, honey, please calm down and tell me what happened.”“Calm down?”I stopped and faced her, tears and snot streaking my face.“You want to know what happened? Ask your husband—the man who couldn’t keep it in his pants around his mistress. Now her daughter is doing the same thing to me.”My mother’s mouth fell open.“What are you talking about?”“Wesley is breaking up with me for Isabella!”She shot to her feet as if the words had struck her.“That’s impossible.” She shook her head vigorously. “Wesley is an Alpha. He can’t marry an illegitimate child.”“Tell that to him.” My voice cracked into a scream. “He’s denying we were ever together. Like I imagined the last two months.”“What?” Confusion flashed across

Barbara POVCharlie’s grip tightened on the wheel when I mentioned the guest house. I could already see how tense he was, the muscle in his jaw working as though he were testing the idea.“I just don’t want to go home,” I said. “I don’t even know what to tell my parents. They’d find out and blame me, thinking I’d done something to piss Wesley off.”“I could talk to them,” Charlie said.I smiled and shook my head. “You don’t want to see my mother when she’s hysterical. It’s something no one should have to experience.”He was approaching the T-junction leading to the highway toward my house. He had to decide soon, so he pulled over instead.“Why don’t we just talk here?” he said, staring straight ahead.“Charlie, I don’t bite.”He looked at me, managing a smile. For someone who was already an Alpha, it was almost ironic how shy he seemed. Then he met my eyes. Everything I needed to know shone in his grey eyes.“I don’t think it’s smart for me to be in an enclosed space with you tonight,

CameronI woke in the middle of the night in a hotel room drenched in sweat and painfully hard. My wolf snarled inside my head, pacing and demanding that I go to Lisa. It was a narrow duplex with sealed windows and thick curtains pulled shut, the air trapped inside. My mom and I stood in the living room, looking around at furniture that wasn’t ours. A keypad blinked beside the door. Franklin punched in a cod
