Chapter seven~ Devil's real colours

Today's a whole new chapter

It's like an enomorous asthma

√√√√

"Toby Wale, good to see you again!" Doctor Lewis greeted aloud in a friendly fashion. He was a chubby built man in his early fifties, draping a white coat and a stethoscope which hung around his neck. His grey beards rounded the sides of his chin and his button nose hung the rimmed glasses which shielded his small brown eyes trailing the movement of the tall and lean figure of the boy who had a lopsided grin stretched on the corners of his lips.

"Same here. How have you been?" Toby replied, pulling out the spinning chair which sat before the mahogany table that had medical instruments displayed on it while doctor Lewis sat directly opposite it.soft breeze from the A.C whispered around the office soothingly.

He chuckled,  "dude! I'm suppose to be the one asking you that."

Toby gave a light shrug, fixing his eyes round the white painted office which had pink plain curtains hung at the windows, paper covered beds at one side of the room, child friendly health advice neatly displayed around and not to forget the bunch of kids toys neatly packed across the room. Toby chuckled, shaking his head.

"Why do I always feel like I'm visiting a playground anytime I come around your office?"

"It's for the effect, feel comfortable kind of thing. Besides, I really do have kids visiting my office though.”  doctor Lewis explained, smiling in a satisfactory amused kind of way.

Toby groaned.

He knew that look. It was a look that doctor Lewis always gave him whenever said something amusing which toby didn't share in that sort of amusement.

"I'm not a kid.”  Toby grumbled aloud causing doctor Lewis to laugh out loud.

"You wish.”

"I'm eighteen."

"In three months time, kiddo." doctor Lewis countered, throwing a smirk at the boy who sighed in frustration yet the hearty smile never leaving his features.

"Can I seriously not win an argument against you?"

Doctor Lewis smiled in response. He had been toby's family doctor/ therapist turned family friend ever since they came to Nigeria. A kind-hearted man who had had his own share of cruel fate. Having his wife divorce him since the death of his only child. He took solace in his work.

"I don't see your mum around?" Doctor Le asked, leaning forward and placing his arms around the desk to get more comfortable.

"That's because I didn't come with her."

"Why?"

He shrugged, "nothing." after a pause, he continued,  "I don't just want her worrying about me.”

The hearty smile had faded causing his expression dull down. Doctor Lewis sighed in understanding,

"Toby...."

"I know i shouldn't have sick thoughts of dying and my mum going through pain again... but sometimes i can't help it.”

"I mean, she may not show it on her expression but I know her and if she could still be hurting cause of her cat which died some years back, how much more will she be hurting for loosing her son not to talk more about dad."

Lewis drew his chair backwards, standing on his feet's and drawing nearer to toby. He placed his palms reassuringly on Toby's shoulders.

"She's a strong woman, Toby. And you are too. Besides, no one says you'll die soon."

"I know right but It's hard to think about living." he muttered.

"Well, I guess this is where hope comes to play right? " Lewis asked rhetorically

" keep hope alive and do whatever stuffs that makes you happy so you have less depressing thoughts.”

"I'm trying hard to do that."

"That's great. At least you're trying. Besides, i want to see you get yourself a girlfriend while graduating from highschool looking as healthy as the word itself.”  Lewis said with a wink.

Toby scrunched his nose in mock disinterest, his lips curved into a smile, "you didn't just say that now."

"Oh I did!”  doctor lewis countered causing the both of them to laugh.

COMPONENTS OF MACRO ECONOMICS

Wow! What a great way to start a term.

Toby leaned by the side of the door which had a plate card with the name SS3B written on it. Taking a small peek inside the class which was surprisingly full with students all dressed in the white and ash uniform. The fact that it was just the beginning of the term made it look surprising to see students all seated in clas.maybe, students got bored of the long vacation. Anyway, whatever might be the case it was still surprising. He glanced round the class from the corners of the door.

There were still the old faces in school. Diane who everyone called her the queen bee cause she was always bubbly and fun. Then, there was the twins Dayo and Bayou who were known for being louder than a street crier, Daniel the bookworm who was in an unspeakable competition with Seun and then Debra, the gossip always seeking for juicy news to keep her audience updated.

Mr Bello, the economics teacher with the devil may care personality towered the twenty five pairs of eyes staring at him in rapt attention. He was one of the strictest teachers who never tolerated late comers and man wasn't ready to give some explanation as to why he was late to Mr Bello's class so he swerved towards the side of the hallway leading to an empty classroom which was under renovation.

"What's this one thinking about?" a small voiced whispered behind him, he quickly reorientated his thoughts, twirling his head behind to catch sight of the slender brown skinned girl who stared at him in sparkling excitement.

"Sarah,”  he smiled, stretching his arms wide for a hug which she snorted on.

"Abeg wait. This one you're giving me hug for free, is that how much you missed me? "

"Take your chance now." he countered, a smirk dancing at the corners of his lips.

She snickered, rolling her eyes,  "lemme joor"

"C'mon nau, would it hurt to get a hug from my bestie?”

"Oh so now, I'm your bestie?" she feigned annoyance with her tone.

"You've always been.”

"Oh! What an interesting info...I really had no idea that I was cause dude, you ditched me to go to wherever it was."

He quirked his lips into a pout,  "c'mon are we still on that?"

"Yes!" She snapped, "jhare I'm going to take my time vexing for you and that your innocent face."

Toby burst out into a boisterous laughter,  “on top my own hands and hug that I'm offering you?”

She smiled in response, pulling herself into his outstretched arm. Her nose basking in his fine scent of lavender with a tip of citrus and almond fragrance. She hummed NICE!

"Aren't you planning on letting me go?" He asked with a smirk which made her pull away from him with a playful scowl. A comfortable silence hung over them for awhile before she spoke again.

"What are you doing here all by yourself though?" she asked in concern.

"Nothing." he shrugged,  "came late for Mr Bello's class. You?"

An excited grin plastered  immediately on her face, she titled her head dreamily to one side.

"Actually...I was talking to George in the music room "

He shook his head, pulling out his headphone, "so...."

"So this term may just be my term after all..." she replied, clapping excitedly like a five year old seeing her favorite candy. He smiled. It was hard not to especially seeing how flushed she looked.

"Sounds good huh! "

"It is.  I mean I've had a crush on him since we began senior class, it wouldn't hurt for him to like me just once. Would it?" She asked. A nostalgic smile quirked at the corners of her lips.

"Hey! You okay?" Toby asked, scrutinizing her sudden change of mood. She shrugged.

"I am...just that, queen witch and George..." she paused as if trying to figure something out.

"Queen witch?" He asked with a light chuckle.

"She's basically one, trust me, you wouldn't even want to meet her. She just started this term with us though, it's all over Bluebell's special.”  she replied, pulling out her phone and handing it over to Toby.

He stared at the picture of the girl clothed in the school's uniforms. Her lips pursed, a blank expression gracing her face yet the pointed stare and stuck up button nose all rounded a familiar figure which he suspected to have come across. He snapped his attention back to sarah

"What class is she in?"

••••

"So when next I come, hand in you CA before we begin another topic on the reproductive system, do you understand? " a lanky lady announced in a quirky kind of voice that seemed to drown in the noisy and rowdy class.

Apparently, class was over but the cause of the noise and rowdiness wasn't just because they had succeeded in finishing biology class but because, the April Waje, the famous teen celebrity was making her way inside the class or rather strutting inside alongside the company Zaria Omah and cooes of Awwwwwnnnn and admiration which flanked their every step.

The biology teacher, Miss Emen,  had to even stop talking just for the noise to die down and maybe steal that opportunity to watch them strut majestically into the class.

"Aunty good morning." April greeted excitedly at miss Emen who was still struggling to spurt out words from her mouth.

"April you're late again?" She finally released in a sentence like manner.

"I had an impromptu shoot this morning ma'am...I'm sorry." April replied, putting up her best puppy-look that made her seem like she really was sorry for having to miss school for awhile on the first day of resumption.

"No..no, it's okay." miss Emen said dismissively, picking her books up to leave the class. Of course that wasn't a question she asked anyway. And how about Zaria? Did she also have a Photo shoot? Talk more about it being impromptu?

Tch!!

"Why do everyone adore April Waje? I know she's a celebrity and all but she's never going to notice them anyway.”

Someone with a tone laced with tinge of envy uttered.

"Well why do you still breath and hope to live when you already know you're eventually going to die?" Another retorted. Probably a die-hard fan of April.

"It's you that will die! Did I talk to you?" the former shot back and just like that, the bickering between the two girls began

Yara rolled her eyes in annoyance. Today had been a long day yet it wasn't over. Sir Bayo, their form teacher had made new seating arrangements before miss Emen came to class.

And guess what?

She got to seat with April.

Can today get any better? Besides the ugly things her schoolmates said about her and now, this!

She watched as April made her way towards Zaria who sat with Seun, the most nerdy, timid guy in the whole of SS3 who everyone considered as a slug.

One thing about Bluebell's was the fact that they had a thing for grouping students. The slugs, for timid people hot shots, for people like April and her devil's replica who's no other than Zaria. And then, the mean bitches which she obviously belonged to. Anyway, April had been talking to Seun as though he was her best friend who had just gifted her a billion dollar. while, Seun on his part was staring back at April like he was offered to go on a space travel.

Yep! Their expression was that weird so it was difficult to make out what the heck they were talking about

And in a jaunt of eternity, Seun was already settling himself beside a befuddled Yara who stared at him like he had gone mentally bunkers.

"Umm...I'm sorry, April asked me to sit here." he said shyly. His voice quaking at each word which he pronounced. Yara rolled her eyes.

For real?

"How long do you plan on sitting here?" She asked. Arching her brows, her tone coming out more icy than she intended.

"For..a long...time...I..I guess "he stuttered.

"Are you serious right now?"

Seun shrugged,  "I couldn't do anything. She asked me nicely."

Yara let out a loud scoff whilst rolling her eyes, "yeah..I'm sure she did."

"You don't want me here?" He asked. There was something about the way he asked that question as though he sounded anxious.

Yara said nothing in reply, clamping her hands around her bosom, she gave him a pointed stare for awhile.

"On the brighter side, you can sit here. Atleast I don't get to pull out someone's hair at the least second.

Seun laughed in relief, "that's... soothing."

"Or maybe I do have to.”  Yara cut in, giving him a cold pointed look which immediately got his smile to freeze.

"Sorry...I thought...that was...a joke." he said in a quiet tone.

She smiled,  "it was. I was just messing with you.”  Seun stared at her in disbelief for a split second before letting out a relieved laugh.

"Well, look at that! I didn't think you two would get along so well." an uninvited and unmistakable voice cut into Seun's laughter.

Yara frowned, turning her head to face the both girls who towered over her. Her whole expression screamed "hey look! It's the two conniving bitchy spuns of Satan" instead, she rested her pointed gaze at them.

"Fancy seeing you here April and sidekick."

Zaria frowned deeply,  " I see you've made a new friend already?" She tsked, "that's so unlike you.”

"Why?! " Yara retorted in a sweet sickly smile, "do you want to be my friend?"

Zaria scoffed,  " you don't go back to your vomit..I'm pretty sure you know that.”

April snickered while Zaria had the triumphant look etched on her face. She could feel her temper spark. A wave of fury flash through her yet she smiled, masking the seething anger which gradually built itself in her. There was a handful of excited attention drawn towards them.

" I can see you still have your bruise on your neck " she replied calmly, her hands folded around her bosom and a calm smile dancing around her face.

Zaria flared,  " just because I let it go doesn't mean i still can't send you back to where you came from, afterall, your stay must have been fun."  she spat.

Yara nodded in agreement,  "it was." she paused, fixing Zaria a dead look , "one hell of a fun that I couldn't wait to drag your sorry ragged personality along.”

"How dare you! " Zaria yelled aloud. Rage surged through her as she stared at an unperturbed Yara murderously.

"Calm down Zaria! Seems like hell must have sent dear sweet Yara back, cause she holds alot of grudge than it can handle. " April said, smirking at yara who returned it with a sneer.

"Well then, you better watch your back dear sweet April, cause I'm back from hell and I'm back with the devil's true colors." she cautioned April who had her peacy smile fazed. A slight look of fear and anger masked up in false cheerfulness shot back at Yara's.

"Tequila! " the silvery tone called out in uncertainty. It sounded so clear.so pleasent that it cut through the excited crowd who had been making mad comments on she and the duo's banter.

She recognized that voice.

And the name!

Raising her gaze up, she was met with those coffee eyes boring at her in surprise, a tinge of confusion and hidden excitement.

"Tequila! "He called again, more like a soft whisper with his eyes never leaving hers.

This term was going to be one hell of a long ride.
