# Chapter 51

"Someone is coming," Luna said, looking through the window.

"Don't worry, my love. That's the security team on their routine patrol," Grayson said as he wrapped his arms around her waist from behind.

Luna leaned into his warmth, but the tension in her shoulders remained. After everything they'd been through—Victoria's betrayal, Damien's threats, Grace being shot—she couldn't help feeling like danger lurked around every corner.

"I need to go to the office today," Grayson said softly.

Luna turned in his arms, her eyes wide with concern. "What? Why? I thought everything was on hold until the FBI investigation clears."

"I can't run forever, Luna. At some point, I have to face reality, and that's what I need to do." He cupped her face gently. "The company needs stability. The shareholders need to see that I'm not hiding. And I need to start rebuilding what my father destroyed."

"But what if—"

"I'll be back before you know it," he interrupted, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "

Grayson sat in his office at Vaughn Industries, staring at the skyline but seeing nothing. The morning meeting with the board had gone better than expected—most of the shareholders had agreed to hold their positions and resist Blackstone's buyout attempts. The FBI investigation was still ongoing, but his lawyers were confident the forged signatures would be proven fraudulent within weeks.By all accounts, he should feel relieved.Instead, he felt restless. His phone sat on the desk, and he picked it up for the third time in an hour, scrolling to Luna's contact. Her photo smiled back at him—a candid shot he'd taken during their first real date in the garden, when she'd laughed at something silly he'd said, her eyes bright with genuine happiness. It had only been four hours since he'd left the estate, but he missed her with an intensity that would have embarrassed him a few months ago. Before Luna, he'd been a man who could go days without thinking about personal matters, consumed entir

"And we need to figure out why Mom didn't warn us about Eleanor," Helena added. "When you visited her, Luna, did she seem scared? Threatened?"Luna thought back to that emotional reunion. "She seemed... happy but overwhelmed. The nurse said she'd just woken up, that she was still disoriented. She asked for both me and Grace, wanted to see us together." Luna's eyes widened. "She never mentioned Eleanor at all. Not once.""Maybe she was afraid someone was listening," Grace suggested. "If Eleanor has been paying for her care, she might have people at the hospital watching Mom, reporting everything back to her."Marcus returned, his expression troubled. "Mrs. Eleanor is indeed in her room, but she's asked not to be disturbed. She said she's having a difficult day and needs rest. My team member said she seemed... agitated when he knocked."Luna's pulse quickened. "Agitated how?""He said she was muttering to herself, something about 'should have done it differently' and 'too many loose end

Grace's hands trembled as she stared at the glowing device, then back at her sisters. The morning light streaming through the library windows made everything feel surreal—too normal for the weight of what she was about to reveal."The night of the fire," Grace began, her voice barely above a whisper. "I was only five years old, but I remember it so clearly now. Mom had put me to bed early because she was expecting someone. I heard voices downstairs—angry voices."Luna moved closer, taking Grace's hand. "It's okay. Take your time.""I snuck out of bed and hid at the top of the stairs." Grace closed her eyes, as if watching the memory play out behind her eyelids. "Mom was arguing with someone. A woman. I couldn't see her face at first, but I remember her perfume—it was strong, like flowers and something chemical."Helena's coffee cup clinked as she set it down with shaking hands. "What were they arguing about?""Papers. Research papers." Grace opened her eyes, looking directly at Luna.

The smell of coffee drifted through the estate's kitchen as Luna cracked eggs into a ceramic bowl. She'd been awake since five, unable to sleep after everything that had happened. The FBI charges against Grayson. Victoria's arrest. The strange energy device that seemed to hum whenever she touched it."You're up early." Helena's voice made her jump.Luna turned to find her half-sister standing in the doorway, dark circles under her eyes. Helena looked smaller somehow, wearing one of Eleanor's old sweaters that hung loose on her frame."Couldn't sleep," Luna admitted, whisking the eggs. "Want some breakfast?"Helena hesitated. "I can make my own.""I'm already cooking." Luna poured the eggs into the heated pan. "Scrambled okay?""Yeah." Helena sat at the kitchen island, her fingers wrapped around a mug of coffee. "Luna, I need to say something.""If it's another apology—""It's not." Helena's voice was firm. "I mean, it is, but it's more than that. I've been thinking all night about wha

The drive to Eleanor's mysterious property took them through winding back roads Luna had never seen before, despite living in New York her entire life. The city lights faded behind them until only darkness stretched ahead, broken occasionally by the glow of their headlights catching road signs she couldn't quite read. Grayson sat beside her in the backseat of Marcus's SUV, his hand finding hers in the darkness. Neither of them spoke, but she could feel the tension radiating from him. The FBI warrant was probably being processed right now. By morning, his face would be on every news channel in the country. Helena and Grace rode in the second vehicle with Eleanor, following close behind. Luna kept glancing back to make sure they were still there, as if the shadows might swallow them whole. "Turn here," Eleanor's voice crackled through the radio. "There's a gate about a mile up." Marcus slowed the SUV as they approached what looked like an abandoned entrance, overgrown with ivy and
