Kael waited for some seconds, watching her, the hallway silent around them, while she stared at the floor for a long, careful second, thinking it through.

"Doesn't sound like a bad idea," she thought, then raised her head and nodded once, slowly.

Right after, her mouth opened as if she wanted to argue but Kael lifted a finger, stopping her from saying whatever she was about to say.

Morvienne closed her lips and swallowed hard as her eyes immediately flicked down to her feet, then back up to him hesitantly.

"Now that we have that settled," he continued, checking the time on his watch. "I have to leave."

"What about breakfast?" She blurted as he started walking towards the stairs, surprising herself with the smallness of the question.

"I have something very urgent to attend to," he replied without looking back, his tone flat and final. "I'll skip it today, but you can go down to the dining hall now that you are well enough and have yours."

"Okay," she said to herself and nodded.

As soon as Kael repeated himself, Morvienne's hand stopped moving where she was turning the food on her plate. The way he spoke with no warmth made her fingers go still around the spoon and her shoulders stiffen. She was afraid to turn and look at him, her eyes still on the food in front of her as she then whispered in the softest and faintest way."Goodnight Alpha."Standing there and watching her longer than he should have, Kael felt himself getting more annoyed. He heard her despite how quiet she sounded, but the way she was behaving was starting to get on his nerves. He wasn't sure what bothered him more. Was it the fact that she wouldn't look at him, wouldn't meet his eyes or how hurt she looked, even while trying so hard to hide it."What is this feeling?" He asked himself inwardly. "Guilt?""No," he immediately refused to call it that. "I haven't exactly done anything. I only cautioned her.""But whatever this is," he thought as he turned to leave. "I hate it. I do not like h

The maid nodded quickly. "Yes, Alpha."Then he gave a small nod and went back to his meal as she turned and hurried out to do as she was told."Miss Morvienne?" the maid called gently, knocking again after not getting any response from her first knock.Morvienne only sniffed in response, staying still and silent."Are you okay?" the maid asked softly, feeling very concerned. "Please... can you open up?" But still, Morvienne said nothing."Please..." The maid hesitated, "let me in. Or should I get the Alpha? I... I don't know what to do." And just as she started to turn away, the door opened and Morvienne came out, eyes red and puffy, her lashes clumped from tears. Her cheeks were blotchy and the corners of her lips trembled slightly as she tried to force control over her emotions. She didn't want to seem so pitiful in front of the maid but she could not help but feel bad and hurt. Her hair had fallen loosely around her face, some strands sticking to her wet skin, yet she tried to car

Morvienne's whole body flinched as the shout hit both her and the room like a physical force. Her shoulders jerked up and her breath came out in a quick, uneven hitch as she stared at him, eyes wide and glassy. Then the fear registered. Her legs moved before her brain did, backward, then another. She was putting a distance between them with tiny, awkward shuffles as her face had gone paler than it already was, the color drained from her cheeks and her lower lip trembling."Alpha—" she began, her voice barely audible as the words came out pleadingly. "Don't," Kael stopped her, not softening. "Don't ever go into my room again, especially without my permission. I do not allow anyone into my room or my private space, talk less about strangers, which is what and who you are. So, don't ever try it again."At his words, tears touched at the corner of her eyes and she swallowed so hard it made a tiny choking noise. "I... I only wanted to help," she forced herself to say despite how terri

For two days, Morvienne hadn't seen him.Instead, it was that same particular maid who came every morning and evening, smiling, polite, and cheerful. Breakfast, fresh clothes, light chatter about how the Alpha was busy. It was the same routine, every day.At first, she didn't mind. After all, patience was something she had mastered long ago. But by the third morning, she began getting irritated. He hadn't come. Not even once. Not a word or even a glance. She had played her role perfectly. The fragile, hurt omega in need of saving and kindness. He had seemed to fall for it, at least a little, yet now, he was nowhere to be found, and that pissed her off more than she wanted to admit. It wasn't supposed to hurt her pride, but it did. She didn't like being ignored, and she didn't like losing either. Especially not after going through the trouble of acting pathetically soft and helpless. So today, the fourth morning since she had been here, she sat up, having enough. She decided she was

The cut, which only last night had been raw and bloody, had now shrunk into a thin pink line. At this rate, it would be completely gone by nightfall. No wonder she didn't feel any pain when she was woken up. But she had taken enough suppressant long before she woke up from that nightmare last night. It should have slowed her healing for at least three days, if not more. But apparently, it was already wearing off."Great," she murmured dryly, tilting her head. "Either I'm stronger than I thought or that batch was weaker than it should have been or maybe," she paused. "Maybe I should have taken more.""Anyway," she brushed it away with a faint exhale, putting the bandage back in place to avoid anyone noticing. When she was done, she leaned back against the pillows, her lips curving into a small pout. Next thing she started laughing, low and quiet, covering her mouth slightly as her shoulders shook."Mmm," she hummed afterward, the sound soft and amused. Then, just as quickly, the amus
