Elena was quiet for a long moment. "I love who I thought he was," she said finally. "The man who saved me from the orphanage. Who gave me a home. Who promised me a future." She paused. "But that man never really existed, did he? I just wanted him to so badly that I invented him."

"That's not your fault."

"Isn't it?" Elena's voice was bitter. "I saw the signs. The way he looked at Vanessa. The way he never touched me unless it was required. The way he flinched whenever I called him 'sweetheart' in front of other Alphas." She set down her tea. "I just didn't want to believe I'd made such a terrible mistake."

"We all make mistakes, Elena. The strong ones learn from them and move forward."

"Is that what I'm doing? Moving forward?" She laughed brokenly. "Or am I just running away?"

"You're surviving," Nathaniel said firmly. "And sometimes, that's the bravest thing you can do."

Meanwhile, across the city at the Shadowmere Pack house, Gabriel was pacing his office like a caged animal.

  • THE ALPHA CHILDREN LIVES   CHAPTER ELEVEN: THE FLOWERS

Elena woke to sunlight streaming through her windows and the smell of breakfast. She sat up slowly, her hand moving to her stomach. The morning sickness had been brutal lately, but today she felt... okay. There was a knock at her door."Come in," she called. One of the house staff entered, carrying a breakfast tray. "Good morning, Miss Sterling. Your grandmother thought you might like to eat in bed today.""Thank you, Marie." Elena accepted the tray gratefully. Scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, whole grain toast. Exactly what Dr. Reeves had recommended for the pregnancy.Marie hesitated at the door. "Miss Sterling? There's something else. A delivery arrived for you this morning.""A delivery?""Several deliveries, actually. The front hall is... well, you should see for yourself."Confused, Elena ate quickly, then made her way downstairs. She stopped at the top of the grand staircase and felt her breath catch. The entire front hall was filled with flowers. Not just a few arrangements. Hundr

  • THE ALPHA CHILDREN LIVES   CHAPTER TEN: THE PERSISTENCE

Back at the Sterling estate, Victoria was waiting in Elena's room, her expression unreadable."How did it go?" she asked as Elena entered."He's not going to sign." Elena's voice was flat as she sank into the armchair by the window. "Not without a fight."Victoria's eyes narrowed. "Then we make him.""How?" Elena looked at her grandmother. "The mate bond is still intact. I can't force the rejection without his consent, and he knows that now.""There are other ways." Victoria moved to pour them both tea from the service that had been prepared. "Legal pressure. Social consequences. We can make his life very uncomfortable until he agrees."Elena accepted the cup with trembling hands. "I don't want revenge, Grandmother. I just want peace.""Sometimes, child, they're the same thing."Before Elena could respond, her phone buzzed. Then again. And again. She glanced at the screen and felt her stomach clench. Gabriel was calling. Again."He's called seventeen times since we left the Gathering

  • THE ALPHA CHILDREN LIVES   CHAPTER NINE THE DIVORCE

"That I want a divorce," Elena said. "That I'm done being his Luna. That he can have everything, the house, the pack, Vanessa. I just want my freedom.""And if he refuses?""He won't." Elena's voice was confident, even if she didn't quite feel it. "Gabriel's pride won't let him beg. Not publicly.""Don't underestimate him," Victoria warned. "He's a dominant Alpha. They don't let go easily, especially when they realize what they're losing.""Then he should have thought of that before he destroyed our marriage."Victoria studied her granddaughter for a long moment. "You've grown stronger already," she said finally. "I can see it in your eyes. The suppression is lifting, and your true nature is emerging." She paused. "But strength isn't just about power, Elena. It's about wisdom. About knowing when to fight and when to walk away.""Is that what you did?" Elena asked quietly. "With Grandfather? When he betrayed you?"Victoria's expression hardened. "Your grandfather was many things, but h

  • THE ALPHA CHILDREN LIVES   CHAPTER SEVEN: THE STRONG ONE

"You're stronger than you know." Victoria's voice was firm. "And those suppressants have been dampening your power for too long. Once we remove them, once you reclaim your true nature…""Gabriel will know," Elena said. "If I remove the suppressants, every Alpha within a hundred miles will feel it when my power emerges.""Let him feel it," Victoria said coldly. "Let him realize exactly what he threw away."Three hours later, Elena sat in the estate's private medical suite as Dr. Reeves carefully examined her. He was an elderly wolf with kind eyes and steady hands, and he'd delivered Elena herself twenty-six years ago."The babies are perfect," he said finally, showing Elena the ultrasound images on his tablet. "Three strong heartbeats. All developing normally." He paused. "But you're not, Elena. Your body is under incredible stress. The suppressants, the emotional trauma, the pregnancy itself—it's too much.""What do you recommend?" Elena asked quietly.Dr. Reeves exchanged a glance wi

  • THE ALPHA CHILDREN LIVES   CHAPTER SIX: SHATTERED ILLUSIONS

Nathaniel arrived exactly nineteen minutes later, his gray-green eyes dark with fury as he took in Elena's appearance. She'd managed to wash her face and change into clean clothes, but the exhaustion and heartbreak were written plainly across her features."I'm going to kill him," Nathaniel said flatly, pulling Elena into a fierce hug. "I'm going to rip his throat out and mount his head on your grandmother's…""Nathaniel." Elena's voice was muffled against his chest. "I need you to be my cousin right now, not my executioner."He pulled back, studying her face. "Tell me everything."So she did. Every painful detail spilled out as they sat in the living room Gabriel rarely used, the room that was supposed to be "theirs" but had only ever been hers. Nathaniel's expression grew darker with every word, his wolf rising so close to the surface that Elena could feel the Alpha power radiating off him."That bastard," Nathaniel growled when she finished. "And the secretary? Vanessa Cross?" He s
