What did they say?”

“Lanarla.”

Arya paused as she walked around the room.

“That’s what they were chanting earlier.” She sounded like she’d just solved part of a puzzle.

“What exactly is that?” I asked.

“Sounds like a name. But I don’t know what it means. I’ll need to do some digging. Maybe make some calls but Luca needs to come home first.”

The sound of Luca’s name turned something in me.

I crossed my arms. My patience was breaking out. “Can’t you just do something now? With your…witchy powers?”

She sighed and ran a hand through her hair. “I wasn’t raised by witches, okay? There’s a lot I don’t know. Honestly, it would’ve been better if I’d been born a full wolf.”

Everywhere suddenly became quiet.

“Where’s Luca?” I asked finally

Arya let out a frustrated sound “Damn, you ask a lot of questions.”

I flinched but she wasn’t wrong. Anyone in my shoes would’ve asked more. I folded myself onto the couch, hugging my knees to my chest.

Arya’s face softened as she squatted in

Lana Morning came and since Luca basically sent me out of his room, it was hard for me to sleep. My night was filled with lots of tossing and turning so I figured, what better way to clear my head than running around the mansion. Of course, my luck never failed me. Tina decided to run too. “How did it go with Luca?” she asked with a smirk. “Judging from your boring face, I’d say he wasn’t too thrilled to hear your excuses.” “Leave me alone, Tina.” I snapped, running in another direction. Hoping that she'd get tired and stop. But she kept following me. “Don’t ignore me, you little shit.” She spat before catching up with me, pushing me so hard, I stumbled and hit the ground, gravel biting into my palms. She laughed before jogging away. Her ponytail, swinging behind her. I felt anger burned in my chest. I hated this. Hated how easily she treated me like garbage. Like I'm some stray cat wandering too close to her space. And she got away with it every single time. And that boiled

Lana Arya’s fork dropped on the table and so did the utensils of the others who were at the dining table. The silence that came after my wish made my heart pound harder. The chef who was setting down another tray paused and looked at me with worry. Was what I said really that bad or did they all just hear it wrong? Luca slowly lifted his cup of wine and took a drink while avoiding my eyes but I spoke regardless. “I know you don’t want to hold one for your mother because of what the pack thinks about her, but..” The sound of Luca’s glass that he slammed against the table cut me off and he looked at me with coldness. “What does the pack think about her?” He asked. “That she was never a good Luna to the pack….” I said but couldn’t bring myself to finish my statement due to the suffocating silence. Alaric looked at me as he rubbed the back of his head awkwardly and Arya shook her head slowly, telling me to stop without actually saying the words. “How could you say that about hi

Luca “Of course I want to. I must have been chosen by the crystal for a reason and I guess I really want to fulfill my purpose.” I couldn’t stop myself from smiling faintly. Weeks ago, she wanted nothing to do with the crystal, but now, she was slowly adjusting. “I’ll admit,” I said, watching her closely, “I’m impressed. You did something no one else has managed. Thank you, Lana. This means everything to the pack. And whatever makes the pack happy, makes me happy.” Her smile faltered at my words, and I noticed. “You remember what you said?” she asked carefully. “That if I impressed you… You’d grant me a wish?” I exhaled slowly. “I’m not one to forget my promises, Lana. Are you ready to tell me your wish now?” I stepped closer, close enough to see and feel her breath. It took everything in me not to grab her and crush my mouth against hers until she forgot how to breathe. “I…uhm…” she stammered, unable to meet my eyes. Her hesitation was sweet torture and I loved that I was t

“Oh, the Alpha is going to be so mad..he’s going to kill me. Shit, shit.” Arya said. “I don’t think you should be panicking, sweetheart,” Tina said in a really calm state. “There’s only one way to know if it worked. Looks can be very deceiving.” I turned to her. “And what exactly do we have to do?” Tina smirked. “It’s simple. One of us needs to bleed. That’s the only way to test whether the river is active again.” Arya spoke up. “I’m not liking where this is going.” Tina ignored her and pointed her knife at me. “If I or Arya try, we’ll heal in seconds because we’re werewolves. You on the other hand… “Wait… why me?” I asked. “You’re still human and your body doesn’t fix itself like ours so you’d make the perfect test subject,” Tina replied as she looked at the blade. “I knew this beauty would come in handy.” “Absolutely not. Lana’s not doing that. I’ll take full responsibility when Luca comes home, and that’s final.” Arya said. I was grateful that Arya was trying

Lana I didn’t know if what Tina was saying was true, but oh help me, I wanted to believe her. Part of me knew she probably harbored her feelings for Luca, so why would she suddenly open up to me like this unless something else was behind it? “What do you mean?” I asked cautiously and her grip on my hand tightened. “I don’t know what you were going to wish for, but if Luca means anything to you… Let your wish be for him to hold a memorial for his mother.” Her tone dropped into something almost sincere, which unsettled me more than her usual cruelty. “Coming from you, he’ll agree and it will heal something inside him. I know how much it breaks him that he can’t honor her the way he wants, all because of what the pack thinks about her.” She continued. I had planned to ask Luca for something selfish. I wanted him to take me to the city for just one day and that was something he would most likely decline. A day outside couldn’t compare to Luca finally being able to honor his mothe

Lana “I don’t think this is going to work out,” I said as I was trembling with a mix of frustration and humiliation. Just an hour ago, I was so sure that I could do this… that I could impress Luca and earn that one wish he promised. But now? The crystal wasn’t responding at all. It was almost as if it were mocking me. “It is going to work Lana. You’re new to this and that’s all. Don’t be so hard on yourself,” Arya tried to reassure me in a gentle tone. But Tina… she just stood there quietly and Tina being quiet was never a good sign. She never stayed like that unless she was plotting something. “Focus on the river,” Arya instructed again. “Just like Tina told you. Sink into your thoughts and reach for the Crystal’s power. Then you picture exactly what you want it to do.” I nodded, dipped my legs deeper into the rushing water, and closed my eyes. The sound of the river was steady and I tried to concentrate. I really tried… “You know it’s funny..” Tina said suddenly. Of cours
