My eye slowly opened as I regained consciousness.

I woke up to the faint rustling of silk and the distant sounds of torches that had been embedded with magic.

I raised my head up, blinking back as my eyes got used to the lighting in the room and that was when I realized that the ceiling above me was impossibly high, it was carved in ancient patterns that glowed with faint but golden light.

For a moment, I couldn’t breathe but it wasn’t because I was panicking, instead it was from the unbelievable beauty of the place I was in. But, as my senses settled, the weight of the truth of my situation settled on heavily over me.

I wasn’t in a palace or a room filled with luxury. I was in a prison and was being held captive.

It was not just any prison but one embedded in luxury. But it was a prison no matter how much better they tried to make it look.
